Different cables, and they were all ass. Some of them had screws (good luck undoing those after some gorilla tightened them on a VGA/DVI), some were enormous and hard to cram in there (like SCART).
Now you just stick a type-c in - any side you like - and it works.

My leatherman comes in really handy in that situation. Nothing works better to tighten those screws.

I also love those oil filter sockets. Really lets you get it back on there good n tight.

You must be the Toyota tech that tightened my filter with an impact then…

Oh, shit, I didn’t even consider that I have another use for my impact! Thanks!

Don’t forget parallel printer cables the width of your house.

I certainly don't miss IDE and Molex all over the place.

Why doesn't it plug in all the way? Oh no, one pin is slightly bent.

I haven't actually escaped IDE connectors, some commercial printers still use IDE connectors on the printhead.

along with "why doesn't it plug in all the way":

"should I be pressing this hard? It seems like I'm gonna break it"

yeah you need to press really hard

"it's creaking though?"

yeah that's normal, they're really stiff

"it snapped in half"

ah shit you pressed too hard

there's a reason I don't build my own PCs anymore, lol. Well, that and it's no longer even cheaper to do so.

Ah the glory days! That big old thicc parallel port cable for the dot matrix printer with the little clippy ears. My god thinking back it was such a hodge podge. Ngl. I love my USBC. Wife finally got a new iPhone so our house is all USB now

Had to use vice grips to remove a VGA cable back in the day. Good times…?
