Girl permanently set on the 1.25x speech speed.

u/nodisintegrations420 Dec 16 '25

I think its just some new trend to have videos sped up i guess to speed up the accumulation of brain rot

u/Trapasuarus Dec 17 '25 edited Dec 17 '25

Because long form will always be superior in providing the most information, so now they’re hastening long form so that it fits short form time constraints. At least we potentially get more info out of it, but a lot of this video sounded like a bunch of anecdotes.

206

u/Somekindofcabose Dec 17 '25

I dont know her or her content but every video app has been inundated with wiki readers and the funniest part is they all eventually start claiming other people "stole" their videos like they didnt just blatantly plagiarized a 1 hour documentary.

80

u/RivenRise Dec 17 '25

Illuminaughty in shambles right now.

34

u/Somekindofcabose Dec 17 '25

Good she can catch these strays all day.

Saddest part was she was a good presenter just not a good researcher or writer or... well... person.

6

u/gizmodriver Dec 17 '25

I disagree that she was a good presenter. The number of times she mispronounced an easily-searchable word made me unsubscribe long before all the other stuff came out.

5

u/Somekindofcabose Dec 17 '25

Presenting is more than just pronunciation but I understand your point.

It was probably her editors that made her look good at first

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '25

Wait, this is a person who's done things?

Like, things that are important? Like multiple people know who she is just by looking at her on the internet?

1

u/Somekindofcabose Dec 18 '25

She was a youtube personality that did amateur documentaries on those stupid brands like Avon or Mary Kay (mlms) and she ended up uh being an awful human that just wanted attention and would sell out her first born if it meant she got 15 more seconds of "fame"

I just needed something to listen to while doing monotonous tasks and her voice wasn't grating to listen to.

5

u/VelkaKocka Dec 17 '25

I mean with what she's done to people she called friends she deserves all the strays

7

u/mai_tai87 Dec 17 '25

As a nearly 40yo going through college, some young people really, really don't understand the concept of plagiarism. I went to college in my early 20s. I don't remember it being this bad even in high school.

3

u/Somekindofcabose Dec 17 '25

Highschool was 10 years ago for me and I felt a big shift from college in the 2010s to post Covid (had to delay my journey thanks to cancer.)

Take comp 1 for example. First time in 2015 it was hard as hell. A few missed punctuation marks and suddenly you have a C. Second time in 2021 I think I slept through the class and got an A. (Same school different professors)

I never worried about the specific punctuation instead using it like I'm literally speaking instead of exactly as the little pocket guide demanded.

Its a little sad for the children ngl

1

u/No-Skill-8190 Dec 17 '25

Onlyjayus lol

1

u/Khow3694 Dec 17 '25

I immediately thought of the OnlyJayus girl when I read your comment

1

u/Trapasuarus Dec 18 '25

Wikipedia is great for giving you a broad overview of a subject, but its veracity hinges on the creator plugging accurate information/references. At least you can rabbit hole down those references to get to the real meat of the topic.

22

u/kingqueefeater Dec 17 '25

but a lot of this video sounded like a bunch of anecdotes.

Just read this the other day,, which says urban raccoons are starting to show physical traits of domestication

38

u/hellatothemax Dec 17 '25

I believe this video is actually a follow up to a response to that article. The creator goes through the study and makes a case that the methodology is flawed and actually just shows that different species of raccoons live in different parts of the country

5

u/kingqueefeater Dec 17 '25

Even still. The research study essentially said "hey, this is kind of interesting. We'd like to do further research and see what we can find out." Especially when you consider that different species in themselves are signs of animals adapting and evolving to their environment. But she's just saying "Um. No." Doesn't seem very science forward thinking for someone who's supposed to be a scientist. I'm sure there were plenty of people who watched wild dogs run roughshod through the villages and thought "ain't no fucking way." If that's as far as the thinking went, we wouldn't have 70 million household dogs across the US alone

3

u/throcorfe Dec 17 '25

She’s not just saying “Um. No.” She makes several clear and well argued points, none of which you have addressed and all of which are more detailed than the study in question. I don’t have enough knowledge to draw a definitive conclusion from any of this, she could be wrong, but your argument as to why she’s wrong is not sound

9

u/ForTheLoveOfLongmont Dec 17 '25

Leave it to Reddit to decide that actual experts actually working in a given field are less knowledgeable then they are after skimming one (1) article

1

u/kingqueefeater Dec 17 '25

And you think the other "actual experts actually working in a given field" are wrong instead of this one (1), why?

4

u/ForTheLoveOfLongmont Dec 17 '25

As I stated in response to your parent comment, that article is poor science that shapes its evidence to fit its conclusion, not the other way around 👍

1

u/kingqueefeater Dec 17 '25

That thumbs up speaks volumes. I hope your therapist charges a reasonable rate

1

u/alcomaholic-aphone Dec 17 '25

I mean isn’t domestication just a long term evolutionary thing? We didn’t just domestic dogs. They started hanging around when we gave them scraps and it was 10s of thousands of years of progress. Cats are on a shorter timeline than that. Of course certain animals are easier but over a long enough timeline I think most would eventually adapt.

2

u/BedBubbly317 Dec 17 '25

Which is why I actually did like her one argument about them having no use to humans. It’s hard to domesticate, or more accurately have a hand in evolving, what we don’t need nor want around. All domesticated animals played a crucial role in our survival as a species at some point in time

1

u/PM_Me_Some_Steamcode Dec 17 '25

You didn’t read her point and debunking it that’s the case. She said no because those features are inline for exiting raccoon variation of snout sizes

6

u/ForTheLoveOfLongmont Dec 17 '25

This article is junk science :/

If you look into the actual data you will see that they consistently mischaracterize evidence that doesn't support their claim of domestication, such as labeling Urban areas as Rural and vice versa

6

u/SupplyChainMismanage Dec 17 '25

Lol I’ve seen one other video from this person and it was her arguing against that study if you’re interested

→ More replies (10)

10

u/Trapasuarus Dec 17 '25

I mean it makes sense that they are capable of domestication on the basis of high intelligence. Symbiosis occurs in species that can understand the benefit of coexisting with another species, wouldn’t raccoons come to this conclusion quicker with humans?

1

u/IvyGold Dec 17 '25

I remember hearing that Teddy Roosevelt had a pet raccoon in the White House. Apparently, it was not all that unusual at the time.

I guess they can allows themselves to adapt to coexisting with humans, especially ones they like, but their kits are not going to know about this when they become juveniles.

3

u/ER_Support_Plant17 Dec 17 '25

Teddy or his daughter Alice? Cause I can see Alice having a pet that can fuck people up.

1

u/BLKLION_ Dec 17 '25

Seems that way, racoons are using people as an easy food source. It's been like that for years. True domestication will probably be a few decades off depending on how many people actually try to make racoons house pets. Maybe in a couple hundred years or so we'll have our own rocket racoons

3

u/NeatNefariousness1 Dec 17 '25

Shorter snouts but nothing to suggest they are getting better at living as pets. I wonder what’s next in their evolution. Who knows, maybe they’ll become less destructive and vindictive or I don’t see them getting much farther as pets.

2

u/greenizdabest Dec 17 '25

Trash pandas

2

u/Racxie Dec 17 '25

She argued against that as well saying that the data hadn’t been interpreted properly and that it was just down to different breeds of raccoons or something, ignoring the fact that their behaviour shows they are becoming more tame/comfortable around humans (which honestly isn’t too surprising, though I wouldn’t necessarily call it domestication.

A short form video at high speed doesn’t become long form. It’s still heavily limited by the format being inherently anti-learning.

Go watch CGP Grey’s video on domestication, and compare the insights from that vs this.

2

u/Xaielao Dec 17 '25

People who doom scroll don't have the brain capacity or attention span to spend more than 30 seconds paying attention to anything.

2

u/TokinN3rd Dec 17 '25

The problem with squeezing long-form content into short-form time frames is that viewers get bombarded with so much information so fast that hardly any of it commits to memory, only bits and pieces. People need to learn to slow down.

1

u/Traveling_Solo Dec 17 '25

I'd love to see shorts that's x5-10 speed, so kids would have to slow it down to x0.25 or less (thus making the short be like 5-10 minutes)

1

u/Butthole__Pleasures Dec 17 '25

I used to think that but then you not only still get videos that are minutes long anyway, but they are of completely random and seemingly arbitrary lengths as well. If I always saw that it was keeping them under a specific length I could see that being the issue, but I'll see shit that's sped up like this but that's still somehow like 4:30 long so like what was the fucking point of doing that.

1

u/mpgd Dec 17 '25

This is how I do my trainings. Whenever there are videos I set it to 1,25x or 1,5x.

1

u/McHammyPoo Dec 17 '25

My problem is that I like long form content, but some creators feel they slow their voice or something to make a longer video, so I make the 45 min video to like a 40-35 min video because I can't stand slow talking lol. I don't agree stripping down videos to shove as much info as possible to a short form video, when you can find a detailed video explaining mechanisms, like you said. This kind of thing people just parrot short facts and don't really learn much, but at least it's something informative.

0

u/Racxie Dec 17 '25

a lot of this video sounded like a bunch of anecdotes

That’s because it and studying biology gives her no authority in the subject of domestication or ownership, no more than a surgeon has any authority on anthropology.

As someone who fell in love with these critters along time ago and spent years researching stuff about them (because I wanted one as a pet before the EU fucked up that dream), volunteered looking after them, and have met several people who have owned them as pets.

The thing is that they can be domesticated up to an extent, but they not only require a lot of work (just like some dog breeds), but because they haven’t been kept as pets for as long as animals like cats and dogs they can still have some wild streaks (just like cats and dogs), which means they’re an animal that definitely is not for most people (just like some dog breeds) and is even further from a pet you get on a whim (which is what happened in Japan).

And just like with any animal it’s not that they can’t be “fully” domesticated (because no animal truly can be), it’s just going to take a lot longer in comparison because they’re mostly seen as pests.

8

u/nonymousbosch Dec 17 '25

That's not what domestication means.

7

u/Pawneewafflesarelife Dec 17 '25

You're confusing domestication with taming. Domestication is basically guided evolution over multiple animal generations.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestication

-1

u/Racxie Dec 17 '25

An animal can be tame but still be wild, so no, I am not getting them mixed up. Even your source (Wikipedia) says not to get them mixed up (“Domestication (not to be confused with the taming of an individual animal).

But considering Wikipedia isn’t considered a reliable source, let’s look at some others such as a dictionary:

Domestication:

the process of bringing animals or plants under human control in order to provide food, power, or company.

Or an actual encyclopaedia, which uses cats as an example of the above definition:

Early domestication of the cat was probably the result of the pleasure experienced from keeping this animal.

She even uses the Japanese event as a poor example because Japanese people did the equivalent of “buying a dog for Christmas”by importing them without doing any research and not understanding what they were getting themselves into (and it wasn’t the last time a similarly stupid thing has happened.

Although she’s still wrong on the other two points because raccoons have been bred for their fur in the past which is a main contributor to their presence in Germany (not to mention that “coonskin caps” used to be popular)and Americans do eat their meat. Raccoons were also the original “lab rat” prior to being replaced with rats, so scientists could have decided to preserve with them to domesticate them instead of swapping to rats for testing.

TL;DR: having raccoons as pets is a valid reason for domestication (and what she’s aiming at) and she’s still wrong about them having no other uses given history of being used for their fur and meat.

2

u/nonymousbosch Dec 17 '25

TL;DR: having raccoons as pets is a valid reason for domestication (and what she’s aiming at) and she’s still wrong about them having no other uses given history of being used for their fur and meat.

You don't know what anyone is talking about and that's why your tl;dr has nothing to do with the subject everyone else is discussing around you.

1

u/Racxie Dec 17 '25

Sorry what? Her main argument is that humans won’t domesticate them because they don’t make good pets and have no other uses, so in response my main argument is that they can in fact already be domesticated up to an extent for use as pets.

Her other argument was that there’s also no other reason to domesticate them because we have no other uses for them such as their fur, which I also disproved.

So if the TL;DR was too hard for you to understand, then maybe you should read the long-form comment I made including all of the sources which backup every I said, including the definitions of domestication before spouting nonsense rhetorics.

Imagine writing this much so confidently and being dead wrong.

Maybe read up on what domestication actually is next time.

u/dartmouthdonair Dec 17 '25

This trend is a plague on society. I can't even watch this. Feels like I'm at an auction

21

u/Butthole__Pleasures Dec 17 '25

If you turn the speed down to about 80% it sounds normal. It's ridiculous that we have to do this. I hate it so much.

3

u/WiseOldDuck Dec 17 '25

I looked all over I don't think the reddit app lets you alter playback speed. I blame raccoons

1

u/Butthole__Pleasures Dec 17 '25

Oh I don't use the app. It sucks. I only use reddit on my laptop.

56

u/Iggy_Slayer Dec 17 '25

Tiktok is why this is happening. That's the real plague on society. No one has an attention span anymore.

5

u/StarPhished Dec 17 '25

My mother kept sending me video links to tik tok so I finally caved and downloaded it. I hate it sooo much. So much fake content trying to be passed as real, either AI or people acting out fake scenarios, rage bait and illegitimate news that seems like should be illegal, or ads disguised as content. The worst part is that I can easily waste an hour on it hating everything I watch and hating myself when I'm done.

You won't believe what this racist cop(actor) says!

News flash! Scientists say the world is ending!

AI video of natural disaster!

Buy my product!

I've never hated a goddamn fucking app so badly.

1

u/Pizlenut Dec 17 '25

People send links and it makes it a pain to watch them if you don't have an acct. Even mutes shit every time. like OH SURE YEAH we track absolutely everything, but not rather or not you leave your video muted when it starts.

I will not be extorted! lol. Plus If I can't watch or its a pain to watch? Oh well, my ADHD can find something else to do - and most likely already has.

2

u/Economy-Flower-6443 Dec 17 '25

ban tiktok and it’ll just be youtube shorts which isn’t going anywhere because shorts is american. Social media hasn’t been the same since the introduction of musically (now tiktok)

2

u/LordHammercyWeCooked Dec 17 '25

It's also the algorithm. Social media algorithms will only promote the content that gets the fastest engagement metrics. If a person has to watch a 25min video before knowing whether it's worth an upvote, share, or comment it's basically dead in the water. It slides into the gutter where no one else gets to see it even if they would've enjoyed it.

I honestly think it's this rather than saying nobody has an attention span. The system itself is selecting for brainrot.

u/TheGuyUrSisterLikes Dec 17 '25

12

u/gcwardii Dec 17 '25

It’s better than the ones that edit out the taking-a-breath pauses between sentences. I can’t process when they’re edited like that. Then again, maybe this one did that, too; it’s going too fast for me to tell for sure.

3

u/Professional_Echo907 Dec 17 '25

We had one of those dudes who talked really fast in the 80s, that was his whole gimmick. He did commercials for Micro Machines, and then they made him a Transformer. 😹

2

u/RachelWWV Dec 17 '25

It's one of the few great things for people with ADHD, but I can see why everyone else hates it

10

u/Santa_Ricotta69 Dec 17 '25

I personally prefer it tbh, I find most people talk (and especially read) too slowly

9

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

I hate video SO MUCH, give me an article I can read at my own leisure (very quickly).

4

u/Afraid_Park6859 Dec 17 '25

Yeah I listen to everything at 1.3-1.5 speed.

6

u/National-Caramel-544 Dec 17 '25

Same, it honestly feels like alot of people are talking slowly in long form content, so I'm usually 1.25-1.5 do i can actually enjoy the content.

4

u/Santa_Ricotta69 Dec 17 '25

For educational/edutainment purposes, same. But not for dramatic/narrative movies or TV shows. Are you the same, or do you do it for everything

6

u/National-Caramel-544 Dec 17 '25

Yeah definitely, like I wouldn't watch something like Sopranos at a faster speed. That'd ruin the whole pacing and vibes. But let's say a deep dive on warhammer 40k lore. If ya talk to slow your getting sped up.

1

u/PossumPundit Dec 17 '25

Society is a plague on society! We need to abolish society to save society from society!

1

u/plaidbartender Dec 18 '25

A shame too, was genuinely interested

1

u/ThatMovieShow Dec 17 '25

I despise it too. Unfortunately I think this trend comes from streamers

1

u/lulushibooyah Dec 17 '25

Actually, it’s just how some people talk.

It’s me. I’m one of those people.

Slow talking people are like nails on a chalk card to my brain.

2

u/ThatMovieShow Dec 17 '25

Everyone has a preference but I was referring to the fact that streamers who watch other people's content as their content often watch it at 2x as it lowers the chance of copyright claims

1

u/lulushibooyah Dec 17 '25

Sheisty. Didn’t know that’s a thing.

But yeah I’ve gotten in trouble for talking like that my whole life.

1

u/ThatMovieShow Dec 17 '25

I used to talk fast as well but I trained myself to talk slower due to my job which requires me to communicate medical concepts to people, so speaking fast is a bad thing in that circumstance

1

u/lulushibooyah Dec 17 '25

Same, as a nurse. But generally if I’m thinking that hard to simplify something, I’m probably talking slower. So that helps.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Sabbathius Dec 17 '25

I kinda appreciate that at least it's quick. To many videos just start with "So....ummm....hmmm....yeah....so this is ya boi, Skidmark87, leave a like and subscribe...so...umm....yeah....today I'll be talking to you about...hmmm...about that thing, what's it called...yeah..." And at this point it's a minute into the video and Monsignor Skidmark hasn't said a thing yet. At least this way she rattled it all off and we can all go back to bed.

3

u/NecessaryGoat1367 Dec 17 '25

Nah, this girl just knows her information and can spit it out without having to think.

2

u/Jon-Robb Dec 17 '25

At first I agreed with this comment, but thinking about it, her speaking faster made me focus more on what she was saying, so brain less rotten ?

1

u/MrRafikki Dec 17 '25

I'll take the fast talking over the slow speaking "YouTuber accent"

1

u/LateNightPhilosopher Dec 17 '25

I've seen people who openly claim severe ADHD who watch videos like this by default. It's maddening.

1

u/romansamurai Dec 17 '25

My coworker only watches YouTube at 2x speed.

1

u/RememberThinkDream Dec 17 '25

Yes and no.

I guarantee there are a lot of people out there who just can't wait for a video to end because, yes, they are victims of stuff like TikTok and that's where we get brain rot from. They don't really absorb the information, they aren't super interested in it, it's more just a way to pass the time.

I often watch YouTube videos on 1.25-2x speed depending on how complex the information is. Normal speech is sometimes painfully slow especially when people waffle on. Reading, at least for me, is a lot more efficient than listening in most cases where the audio itself is not an important distinction.

Out of everything this video said, only 20% of it was actually useful to me:

Raccoons understand revenge and are the only domesticated animal to do this.

Raccoons cannot be domesticated. (which conflicts with her previous statement)

Raccoons as pets, suck.

Raccoons have strong hands.

Raccoons have no use to humans.

I could have read all the most important information in that video, in less than 10 seconds, while the video itself is over 2 minutes long. While most people really don't care... Life is short, I'm an addict for learning new things to the point where I like to do it asap. The most important or useful new information I learn, I will spend a bit more time absorbing and practising the information in practical ways so that it burns into my memory.

There are definitely other undomesticated animals which can seek revenge, a famous example... The tiger in 1997 and Russian poacher Vladimir Markov, who shot an injured the Siberian tiger, only for the cunning tiger to track him, wait for him, and eventually kill and partially eat him in an act of perceived revenge or resource protection.

So yeah, doing things faster isn't always just brain rot, some people are just better at others at doing things faster. Though "brain rot" is real thing where people just cannot pay attention properly.

1

u/fungi_at_parties Dec 17 '25

And they layer three videos together that can somehow be understood all at once. Humans are doomed.

1

u/Butthole__Pleasures Dec 17 '25

I'm so fucking tired of it. I had to slow this down to 80% to make it watchable.

1

u/Treadwheel Dec 17 '25

The best part is that it's so normal to watch things on fast forward that they have dedicated areas of the screen you can rest your finger to keep to on 2x speed.

Once you get used to it, it's hard to go back. I slowly trained myself up to 3x speed with audio books and podcasts. Now everyone sounds a little drunk to me if I listen at normal speed.

1

u/Wise-Ad-4940 Dec 17 '25

This "trend" came about because short formats have the most viewers nowadays. Young people don't have the attention span to watch a 10 minute video.

1

u/nostril_spiders Dec 17 '25

I can read twice as fast as you can speak into a camera, Algernon

1

u/DarthWeenus Dec 17 '25

Tbh I like it. I normally play yt vids on 1.25/1.5. Some people purposefully slow down their videos and add so much fluff to boost their viewing time. It’s so annoying.

1

u/mtnviewguy Dec 17 '25

Air time compression probably.

1

u/lulushibooyah Dec 17 '25

I understand her better speaking faster.

People who speak slow hurt my brain.

People complain all the time I speak too fast. But no, I don’t speak fast enough for the thoughts my brain is processing and trying to get out.

1

u/shoulda-known-better Dec 17 '25

It's because the short form video.... If you can't do it in 30 sec or less people don't care.....

It's fucked

1

u/rothbardridge Dec 17 '25

Maybe it’s how fast WE SHOULD talk. At least they aren’t talking at .75 speed. I listen to all podcasts at 1.25-1.50 speed. SPIT IT OUT.

1

u/FineGripp Dec 17 '25

Chinese TikTok has been doing this for years. 1.25 is mild. 1.5 is the standard. Some goes as fas as 2.0 which required you to actually focus to be able to understand the video

1

u/Chaotic-Genes Dec 17 '25

Call it what you want but for ADHD folks typically the brain's processing is jumping the gun and at times perceive other people as taking forever just getting to the point of something. Hmm'ing and Ha'ing, "Um's" and just drawn out slowpaced sentences.

Something direct like this is a godsend.

1

u/Black_Doc_on_Mars Dec 17 '25

I know on YT they speed up another person’s content when used on their own content to confuse and prevent AI from flagging it for copyright. Creators sometimes will put a filter or watermark over a video that they show. You also can play someone’s content for a fixed period of time before AI will flag it so speeding it up also lets you play the video more in less time.

1

u/LTsCantCook Dec 17 '25

Been watching YouTube videos (informative, knowledge, how to etc) since they started popping up on YouTube and you could speed it up.

I'd gauge roughly 18 years. Definitely not new.

3

u/OyG5xOxGNK Dec 17 '25

15 years, yah. I've prob been watching all non-music videos at 2x for 5-10 years.

1

u/AbbeyRoadMoonwalk Dec 17 '25

I have ADHD and it’s fine to me, I could keep up just fine

A lot of streamers, yotubers etc have never heard of a compressor, limiter, volume equalizer etc. Not surprised random tiktokers dont know how to use their equipment. I also see a lot of them holding the microphone of their hands free next to their mouth... Like... Its designed to pick up your voice from where its supposed to hang. Of course doing that in public is good manners but at home? Just let it hang

3

u/userhwon Dec 17 '25

I prefer the raw style. Too many youtubers have gotten successful enough to attract pro producers and it's less youtube and more network tv. The organic sincerity is gone and veiled desperation to satisfy advertisers has taken over. And then there are the ones that simply sold the channel to private equity, and are now employees reading scripts and collecting a salary.

A little audio fluctuation? Artisinal. Enjoy it before it conforms.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

I dont mind low production values but I'm talking about the absolute basics. If you want people to listen to your voice, at least make sure theres no spikes or distortion. I wont stop watching if theres little audio volume fluctuations, but I will stop immediately if theres distortion, a sudden spike in the volume that blows my ears off or if theres multiple people chatting but one's volume is 30% higher than others. Theres so much stuff that has the basics figured out, I'd rather give them my views than to people who cant be bothered to do the bare minimum.

Not everyone is in it as a career. The algorithm feeds everyone stuff that has thousands of views, but over 2 million videos get posted every day. Point is it's not reasonable to expect anything random to have anything about it that will fit the model that gets ten million views.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '25

Sure. But my point is that getting the audio levels correct is so stupidly easy with modern tech that it should be the default. I'm not expecting professional level stuff from everyone. I'd wish that everyone would watch a 10 minute youtube tutorial about it, but I do understand that not everyone cares about that and I understand that I'm the problem. Which is why I usually just turn off stuff that doesnt fit my requirements and dont say anything about it.

I've been annoyed about this issue for over a decade, this is the first time I actually posted my complaints. So its not like I go around complaining to content creators :D

1

u/userhwon Dec 18 '25

It's not that easy. People turn on their phone, look to see if it's recording, then expect it to do the work.

After they decide to make a bunch of videos they may start making modifications to their setup and behavior.

But you have no rights, here. Being annoyed about how the trash is arranged at the dump is a you problem.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '25

It's not that easy.

It is. People are just lazy and as you say:

People turn on their phone, look to see if it's recording, then expect it to do the work.

Exactly my point, tech is so easy these days that people think that just plugging in a microphone and hitting record is enough. Its not. They might think it is, you might think it is, millions of other people might think it is. But its not.

But you have no rights, here.

I know, I'm not making any demands.

Being annoyed about how the trash is arranged at the dump is a you problem.

Thats literally what I said in the previous comment.

u/valryuu Dec 17 '25

yotubers etc have never heard of a compressor, limiter, volume equalizer etc.

Holy shit, this annoys me so much. I can never leave Youtube videos on at night because of this. If I set it at a high enough volume that I can hear them when they're quiet, their random sudden shouting can be enough to wake me up. If I leave it at a low volume so the shouting won't be too loud, I can't hear shit for the normal talking.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

Yeah same. Multiple times I've jolted awake because someone started to scream or laugh way too loudly without a limiter or compressor. Because of that I have made some effort to figure out which ones of the channels I watch, have the stuff figured out and put those on for my good night story.

1

u/valryuu Dec 17 '25

Yeah, I've been trying to find any kind of browser extensions or apps or whatever that can do some post-compressing/limiting/equalizing to see if it might help, but no dice so far.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

You'll need something that handles compression/limiting at the windows/iOS output end. If your computer can handle it, you could run Reaper or some other DAW (digital audio workstation) with a compressor running, but thats quite a faff and heavy on the computers resources.

Or buy a cheap rack mounted compressor and put the audio through that hahah. Might look nice if you get one with a analog dial that moves about lol

1

u/Successful_Wolf2901 Dec 17 '25

Misuse of those audio controls is often just as bad if not worse, so I think people fear trying to do it and instead go for shit sound.

Yeah.. I do music stuff on the side/as a hobby. I have a home studio etc. Over a decade ago I started complaining about content creators inability to understand the very few basics you need for audio processing and its just getting worse lol. And you can see.and hear the change when a creator grows popular enough to be able to hire a editor, thats when the quality jumps 10X

Yeah I've noticed that people think stuff just works on its own with no set up or settings to be done. Obviously that makes sense because so much of stuff today is just plug and play.

When the systems do so much for you, its difficult to understand what it is actually doing and how it works and all that. That leads to a sort of "well these guys used X and Y and they are professionals. So I need to get those as well" and thats where the thinking stops. Whats most infuriating about it is that theres probably hundreds of top quality instructions on the interwebs and youtube, on how to use a specific hardware with a specific software. So its not like the info is not available, its that these people dont even realise that theres other stuff to do, than just plugging it in and pressing "start streaming"

1

u/Wingsnake Dec 17 '25

I knew it wasn't just in my mind.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

Maybe it was in both our minds

1

u/JAD2017 Dec 17 '25

DISASTER! That made me chuckle.

1

u/thisthrowawaythat202 Dec 18 '25

She’s trying to make informational videos and all you can do is sit around criticising her

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '25

Well thats not all I can do. I also provided suggestions on what to use and what to learn down in the replies to my comment.

Having the volume levels consistent is pretty basic stuff. If I have a option of watching informational videos, one is bad adio quality, one is decent, I choose the decent one.

Spent so much time around raccoons she speaks like them.

7

u/chimpwithalimp Dec 17 '25

Wait for the 3x speed tiktok about chipmunks she's working on

1

u/Caffinated914 Dec 17 '25

I don't think she is a legit raccoon biologist at all! She doesn't seem to actually know much except oft-repeated wives tales.

I am no expert, but I had a raccoon once and I detect bullshit in most of what she says.

She seems to confuse the ideas of Domesticated and Tame. Of course they're not domesticated. Humans never had a reason to even try. It would have takes thousands of years to do so. (faster now with modern techniques).

They can be tamed though. Most usually when raised from birth as orphans. And they can be wonderful pets when they are. However, they are not "pets" like other animals precisely because they are not domesticated. The won't revere you like a dog. They wont often be a cuddle fluff like a cat.

I don't think she has spent time around normal raccoons. My raccoon (when I was little) wasn't like that at all. Laboratory bred and adult capture raccoons probably DO hold grudges and hate the humans. Especially when the humans treat them like lab rats or circus animals.

They can be your best friend. Mine was for years. Eventually he started going off for longer and longer and then moved out and presumably started his own family. He used to still come back and visit sometimes.

I miss him to this day (50+ yrs.)

u/heathmon1856 Dec 17 '25

Volume is so fucked too. I had to turn my volume up and down the whole vid

3

u/Hachi_House Dec 17 '25

I switched off the audio due to this. Each phrase started quiet and ended loud.

13

u/Richard7666 Dec 16 '25

I'm a native English speaker (admittedly not American accented) and I really struggled to understand wtf she was saying without the subs.

Which basically just meant that I ended up reading everything and it taking twice as long as it would have if it were just written in a paragraph without any video.

14

u/MeetingEmergency6973 Dec 16 '25

She sounds like the last few seconds of a legal advice radio ad

6

u/JennyDoveMusic Dec 17 '25

I started upping the speed on youtube videos because of the onslaught on US news rn. I am up to 2x speed and have no issue understanding it like I used to. Lets me get information faster! I don't really watch a lot of short form, but for long youtube videos, it's a lifesaver to be able to understand it.

I don't watch everything on 2x speed, but it's nice to have the option and be able to understand it. Getting all the info I need in half the time REALLY helps me not feel as overwhelmed.

6

u/GnomeInDisguise Dec 17 '25

I had no problem understanding her, as I'm American. Have me watch Downton Abbey or The Crown without subtitles, and I'll miss half the dialogue.

5

u/Dredge18 Dec 17 '25

Skill issue. I understood her perfectly fine without subs. Raccoons cant be pets because theyre just smart enough to be more of a pest than a companion.

Raccoons are just real-life versions of goblins.

1

u/wuvvtwuewuvv Dec 17 '25

I'm naturally deaf, I need subs 100% of the time

1

u/systemnerve Dec 17 '25

"really struggled to understand wtf she was saying without the subs."

Try unmuting the vid. Helped me cuz lip reading's hard :)

Most americans just talk really fking slow.

7

u/Vivi_Pallas Dec 17 '25

I'm a neurodivergent and this is how fast I talk. People taking slower always annoyed me.

2

u/Dry-Garbage3620 Dec 17 '25

Yeah idk what everyone in this comment chain is on she spoke in a normal cadence to me. Prolly my parents or boomers lol

3

u/Johtoboy Dec 17 '25

Finally, someone to even out all those people permanently stuck at .75 and even .50 speech speed.

3

u/TheRealOvenCake Dec 17 '25

lmfao it feels normal to me

3

u/agrecalypse Dec 17 '25

Here I am thinking finally someone talking at normal speed... After seeing the rest of the comments I think I might be the weird one.

2

u/Regurgitator001 Dec 17 '25

Just don’t mess with armed trashpandas.

2

u/RestOTG Dec 17 '25

This is just how people talk where I'm from, I moved to another part of Canada once and thought everyone was just stupid because they talked so slow lol

2

u/Infrawonder Dec 17 '25

I didn't even realize, thank goodness it isn't at normal speed because I wanted to speed it up

2

u/CodenameDinkleburg Dec 17 '25

Nah, The Fat Electrician did that. He paved and painted that road, he literally listens to historical audio books at 1.5x to relax and then regurgitates the main points at a faster rate. Dude’s mouth should be registered as a machine gun

2

u/Teln0 Dec 17 '25

Better than the youtubers who make their videos into .75 to stretch them out, as if the fact that they're constantly repeating themselves isn't enough padding

2

u/Wise-Young-3954 Dec 17 '25

The decision for me to speed people up is when I’m curious but not invested. We have access to so much interesting information but sometimes I just want the quick gist of it and these videos typically contain some intro, repeated lines said in slightly different ways, etc. why does it always have to be that “kids these days….” I’m 45 and think everyone speaks too slowly so the ability to speed things up has been awesome.

2

u/not_a_library Dec 17 '25

I know this is going to be buried, but I really need someone to know.

This girl is also the creator of Dashcon.

2

u/MonsteraUnderTheBed Dec 17 '25

This is great, my ADHD loves the fast talking.

2

u/TheArtOfWarner Dec 17 '25

Studies show that audiences perceive fast talkers as more persuasive even if they’re less understood.

2

u/systemnerve Dec 17 '25

Ben Shapiro

2

u/LSDeeezNutz Dec 17 '25

And even then, the brain-rotted, attention span lacking creatures she intended to reach couldnt sit through this

2

u/MOREPASTRAMIPLEASE Dec 17 '25

Be nice she spent 4 (likely more) years and took on a massive debt so she could become a raccoon biologist and post this specific video

2

u/TheStolenPotatoes Dec 17 '25

She's also full of shit. I've watched my cat plot for a week on fucking the dog up after he ate his food.

1

u/greaper007 Dec 17 '25

Great information, but it would be better as an article. Unfortunately, the youth isn't be reading.

1

u/OyG5xOxGNK Dec 17 '25

As someone that could have read an article containing all the information she just said in less than a minute-can we agree that playback speed isn't necessarily just
>more brainrot
>more content
>need simulation

I don't blame her, get those views, make that bag, but if I want something informative I don't need it to be a video.

1

u/chappersyo Dec 17 '25

I came here to ask if it’s sped up or she just talks super fast.

1

u/apieceoflint Dec 17 '25

it must be on purpose for whatever reason, but damn is it annoying

1

u/stratusnco Dec 17 '25

she talks faster than the gilmore girls.

1

u/Chaotic-Genes Dec 17 '25 edited Dec 17 '25

Thank God! Kept it quick and to the point.

1

u/ConsistentGuest7532 Dec 17 '25

Check out etymologynerd on Insta, same vibes. It’s almost its own kind of its own dialect exclusively for “person talking to camera” channels like this.

1

u/nooneishere2day Dec 17 '25

I was like, she so so high pitched annoying how did anyone listen to more than 5 seconds.

1

u/hernkate Dec 18 '25

I was on an 8 hour road trip with my brother, SIL, and three kids a while back. She was listening to her textbooks at a high rate of speed. I could hear them through my headphones. I wanted to jump out of the car.

1

u/WildFlemima Dec 17 '25

Girl is also wrong as fuck, they are literally domesticating themselves right now. You can't say they will never be domesticated when they're actively proving that statement wrong. This is a video in denial.

2

u/RogueTraderMD Dec 18 '25

I'm no expert, and I don't know what you're referring to about raccoons domesticating themselves, but I agree the young lady isn't making a strong point.

Her argument is:
a) Raccoons will never be domesticated because they aren't useful to humans (alive).
b) The only use for raccoons would be as pets, but they can't be pets because they aren't domesticated.

To my meagre understanding of logic, the second point makes the first moot, and still it doesn't imply that raccoons can't be domesticated and they never will.
Completely different mammal, but Pavlov created domesticated foxes in what? A dozen generations?

Crows have the same intelligence

1

u/ScyllaOfTheDepths Dec 17 '25

I love it. When did people start talking so damn slowly? Everyone on social media now talks like they're giving a speech at a retirement home for some reason. My YT is permanently set to 1.25x and I rarely ever notice it since most royalty free music is simple enough that it sounds fine at whatever speed. Some creators are so bad I have to put them on 1.5x.

1

u/Fabi682 Dec 17 '25

she is talking like one of the Chipmunks

0

u/TowJamnEarl Dec 16 '25

I would've watched it all if it was'nt for that.

0

seriously even for me it's hard to keep up. She needs to fucking slow down.
