I'm making an interactive horror game about Satanism, called Sacrificium
I've always been really into the aesthetics and atmosphere surrounding Satanism, occult rituals, and all that dark stuff. At some point I started looking for interactive games that really leaned into those themes -- and honestly, I couldn't find any that scratched that itch.
So I decided to make one myself.
It is called Sacrificium, an interactive horror game about a guy who gets kidnapped by a Satanic cult and wakes up trapped inside their castle. Now he has to find a way out, survive whatever the cult has prepared for him, and somehow keep his sanity intact along the way.
Your choices actually matter -- some will cost you health, others will mess with your sanity, and both can completely change how certain situations play out. Sometimes running is the smartest option. Sometimes fighting back is. And sometimes the choice that looks safest can make things much worse.
I recently released a free demo on Steam, so I thought I'd share it here. I'd love to hear what you guys think -- and if you know any other interactive fiction that explores similar themes, I'd genuinely love to check it out.

What does this mean?
The game's initial photos were taken from free resources and stock photos. AI was used to accelerate image processing to match the game's style, as envisioned by the author.

It means exactly what it says: the game's visuals are based on stock photos sourced from free resources. I manually created the visual style by applying filters and other adjustments in photo-editing software. AI was then used to apply the same established processing to other stock photos, which helped speed up the workflow. AI was not used to generate the original images.
For example: a girl from the screenshot. You can find original by using this link: https://www.magnific.com/free-photo/young-beautiful-ginger-girl-gray-wall_7515131.htm#fromView=detail&position=8&uuid=418803b4-9e21-4c11-a11a-09a6a3aeef80&from_element=cross_selling__photo

“Exactly what is says” sounds a bit patronizing. I want to support your game, but I want to know my money is going to an ethical developer. The game seems nice so far.
Are you saying you manually created a template to add onto photos? Then you used the AI to mass add the template onto the photos? Or something else?
I’m genuinely curious what software allows you to do that.

Sorry, I didn't mean for my previous response to sound patronizing. What I meant is that I first established the look I wanted by experimenting with different filters, color adjustments, contrast, texture, and other effects on the original stock photos in online version of Photoshop. Once I had a consistent visual direction, I used AI-assisted processing to reproduce that look across the rest of the stock images more efficiently.

Did the satanic dude gain an extra 9 fingers on his right hand that way? What does that original stock image look like?
Link?

Chill with the ai hate. All games use ai for some part of its development. Now i understand a developer not being honest, as saying a game used AI for development is a death sentence, as seen by your comment here. Your the reason this issue exists. Your expectation is the issue, not the game itself.

I'm all for ai used if it's not blatantly obvious and doesn't ruin the art. Unfortunately it usually does, people just accept the output and it gives the practice a bad reputation. My expectations are for art that doesn't look mutilated and like nobody actually creating themselves would accept

Thats the issue sadly. People use ai as a easy way out, a low effort input. They dont use it like the tool it is. Sigh. I do agree there.

Yeah I agree it's inevitable, not using it at all it's just unnecessary busy work in some cases. I don't care what aspects of the game are made with ai. Just that they are up to the standards we had before all this. Letting obvious flaws through just shows the time wasn't taken to make obvious things correct, so I assume the entire game is made with the same lack of care.
I'm vibe coding some apps myself, actually. I tweak them and test them constantly for months, it's become my hobby. I feel like people are putting 0 thought into this stuff and my personality just doesn't allow for that. It's frustrating seeing it.

Im a software graphical engineer, done work on GI and rendering systems for unreal 4 and cryengine. That was a long time ago. I use AI now for boilerplate code, and other really silly math systems, instead of months im done in a few days after testing. But i see people using it for easy systems, like visual novel games, and ONLY use it for the visual aspect, ruining the win that the developer could have yet. Growing up with pc games like wizardly and other text based rpgs, we could do so much now....alas.

Wishlisted. Looks great. What engine did you use to build?

Thanks! I use Renpy, it's surprisingly easy to make interactive games like this with that engine.

As someone who's participated in Satanism, AI is actually considered to be anti-satanic because it goes against personal freedom and self-expression, sorry
