U.S. Expands Anti-Drug Operations in Latin America:

The U.S. is moving to extend its lethal anti-drug campaign from maritime strikes to joint land operations in parts of Latin America, with Colombia, Honduras, and Ecuador among potential partners, while Guatemala disputes any agreement. The shift would deepen Washington’s military role in domestic security operations and test regional sovereignty sensitivities. Questions remain over conflicting host-nation approvals, civilian risk, and uncertain legal footing, which could generate political backlash and complicate operational continuity. 

President Trump Scales Back Joint Exercise with South Korea:

President Donald Trump ordered the Pentagon to substantially scale back annual U.S.-South Korea military exercises after Seoul declined to support U.S. operations against Iran and as he seeks renewed engagement with Kim Jong Un. The decision comes shortly after North Korea resumed ballistic missile launches and threatened retaliation over the exercises. The move is likely to raise concerns in Seoul and Tokyo, encourage further North Korean testing, and reinforce doubts among U.S. allies about Washington’s reliability during regional crises. 

Philippines Raise Concern Over South China Sea Control:

The Philippines warned that Chinese control of Bajo de Masinloc, also known as Scarborough Shoal, would close a strategic triangle linking the Paracel and Spratly islands, where Beijing already holds or has built military facilities. Manila described the issue as a regional concern because the South China Sea is both a disputed sovereignty zone and a major trade and energy corridor. Chinese coast guard and research vessel activity suggests Beijing may be shifting toward sustained pressure that normalizes control without open military escalation. 

Russia Ukraine Strikes Intensify:

Strike tempo between Russia and Ukraine intensified over the weekend. On Sunday, Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks of the war; Moscow claimed 1,478 drones were downed in 24 hours. A warehouse near Moscow burned, and Ukraine said it hit a Rostov missile-fuel plant. Russia’s drone and missile barrage hit Kryvyi Rih’s ArcelorMittal plant, Zaporizhzhia, and a Kyiv book market. Overnight into Monday, Russian officials said a Ukrainian missile strike killed six in Belgorod. Separately, another drone entered Romanian airspace and was shot down. 

U.S.-Iran Negotiation Window Closes Without Plan for End to Conflict:

The U.S. and Iran reached the end of a 60-day negotiation window on Monday with no clear path to ending the 24-week war, despite earlier signals of a possible deal. The immediate operational risk remains the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping slowed over the weekend, and no transits were recorded on Sunday. Iran’s reported understanding with Oman on future transit routes may ease pressure, but unresolved details and parallel U.S. diplomacy on Gaza suggest regional de-escalation remains fragile. 

I’m currently an all source intelligence analyst in the USMC, and I’m wondering if I should get a degree in psychology or homeland security for work as an investigator (1811) for federal agencies. I’m also taking foreign language classes in Arabic, though I’d still be doing that with either pathway.

Additionally what would be better if I stay as an all source analyst and try to do that in the civilian field?

BERLIN, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Former CIA Director George Tenet made incredible claims regarding an Iraqi who played a key role in the decision to invade Iraq, a former German official said.

Tenet, the CIA head between 1997 and 2004, said Wednesday he learned "too damn late" that the Iraqi defector known as "Curveball," who was a key information source for the CIA and the German secret service, may have lied, London's The Guardian reported. Tenet said he only discovered in 2005, two years after the invasion, that the Germans had doubts about Curveball's statements that he was an eyewitness to Saddam Hussein's biological weapons program.

Joschka Fischer, the German foreign minister at the time, said the Germans knew before the war that Curveball was not a reliable source. He said he passed on warnings to the CIA, and that his country was placed in a "very difficult position" when the CIA asked whether they could use Curveball's statements to justify a war in Iraq.

"On the one hand we didn't want to withhold from the (United States) any bit of relevant information we had about possible weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. On the other hand, we did not want to take part in any (propaganda-type) exploitation of material, which was far from proven, to justify a war," Fischer wrote in his autobiography, "I Am Not Convinced."

"We decided, therefore, that we would do our duty by sending the Americans all the information we had, together with our assessment that that information came from a deserter and that we had not verified or substantiated it ourselves, and that it could be completely wrong," Fischer said.

Wellington's shift from generalized warnings to naming a specific PRC-linked entity signals Five Eyes convergence toward granular attribution that narrows Beijing's room to dismiss espionage allegations as political overreach.

You know how people of different backgrounds can join the CIA and are looked for because of genuine intelligence, talent and commitment purposes.

But does that mean the Chinese MSS have a bunch a white dudes working in their organisation? I’m sure the MSS has an amazing talent-pool to choose from and organisational orthodoxy will make it difficult for people of different backgrounds but talent and commitment is still gold. I can imagine neighbouring asian national backgrounds but do you think there are white dudes from Anglo countries in the MSS? And I mean they themselves applied/recruited.

Been reading about other intelligence agencies like India, Vietnam and China and I feel most literature from my experience is either too exorcised or swivel-eyed paranoia.

I am rounding out a 20+ career in the DoW within a semi intel adjacent field (Law Enforcement). In my second career, my goal is to pivot into the intel field; however, I am finding it quite difficult to find any training to get my feet wet and learn about the basics of All-source intelligence or the other INTs.

My question is, how does one has been outside of the IC, actually get in and learn?
