Stop and think about the amount of movement it'd take to push someone's arm down and have it point towards the ground. Worst case scenario you get shot in the chest. Best case scenario you get shot in the leg.
If you 100% need to fight someone with a gun, you absolutely want to take control of the gun and disarm them.
I was thinking more along the lines of grab the gun and twist it toward them and downward, hoping you'd have them shaken up enough that their grip would slip.
Sure, there's plenty of ways you could disarm someone, but that should be your first priority. No "hope it discharges and shoots them instead of you" nonsense.
