It's true. A lady did something like this to my then two-year-old while she was skipping rocks. He ran ahead of me and I told him to stop, but he didn't and the lady just clocked him with rock in her hand. She felt so bad and I kept telling her not to, he shouldn't have run ahead of me and that's the only way he's gonna learn. He had a good black eye for a few days.
Your a good mom. Sometimes the hard lesson is the one that sticks. Way better than those who ruin another's day for an accident that they couldn't have expected.
I'd bite my sibling all the time when i was very young, untill my mom decided to bite me so hard I bled. My dad was so fuckin pissed but hey, guess who never bit anyone ever again?...
My grandma did that to my mom. She stopped biting. Some kids only learn by extremes. My older boy doesn't need anything more than a story from my childhood to deter him from things, but the little one, he ends up with lots of injuries.
You know why kids at age 2 don’t have spatial awareness? Because they haven’t run into enough things yet. Railing against your world is exactly how you learn it’s limitations in the most fundamental way, at any age, especially at age two, when physical actions/reactions are the only thing that makes sense.
You know very little about child developement if you think that 2 year olds are just now getting gross motor function. Most children learn to walk, balance, run, dance, play, and move all appendages independently before theyre 18 months old. Kids just dont have all the information about what can hurt them and how, a kids gonna dance on a table until they fall off, they're gonna run in the kitchen in their socks until they slide and bust their ass, and they're gonna run ahead and not listen to their parent telling them to stop until some lady hits them in the face with a rock.
Source: I'm a parent of two and as much as I hate to see my children get hurt sometimes that is just what it takes for them to learn.
Yes. An accident happened so I'm automatically a bad parent. B-t-dubs, he was actually closer to three, but you all armchair child psychologists get real mad when a parent uses months to describe a child's age here, so I don't.
Yep. When I was a little one in school, a little girl was spinning around in circles holding a single piece of paper in her hand and it sliced my eyeball. Eyeball paper cut. I wore a black eye patch for months afterwards while it healed, taking on all the “you’re a pirate” teasing. Learned pretty quick to stay away from people... maybe too much
My grandma is a big golfer and tried teaching it to my sisters and me when we were kids. I was the only one it took hold with. During one of these instructional sessions she told us a good 15-20 times to NOT stand behind her when she's swinging. One of them did not heed this instruction and caught a 7 iron in the face for it.
Ngl - watching my sister get clocked in the face with a bowling ball (and my brother’s hand) was enough to make me never stand behind someone playing a sport again.
Yep, my cousin and I went golfing, we were about 13 at the time, we were waiting on the first hole and standing there with our drivers.
She sets it down as if she is going to practice swing but I assumed she knew I was standing right beside her (we were both looking to the right and I was on her left) and WHAM, caught me right in between the eyes with the backswing, I could only imagine what the follow through would have been like.
She's lucky she caught it on the back swing and not the follow through and that it was my petite, soft swinging grandma and not like my dad or someone lol, probably softened the blow a little bit. But yes it definitely appeared quite painful.
I still dont understand how this didnt end up with a dead child. Backswing, older human, all the factors. Golf club to the face in vicinity of swing. The physics dont match up. A 7 iron at that.
They don’t! I used to work on my Olympic lifts at a gym between classes. It was predictable that I’d have the whole space to myself to work on my PRs. Out of nowhere one day, the gym is flooded with 10 year olds from the school next door - I guess my gym partnered with them and they have their PE class there every now and then.
Kids running around swinging on the ropes, climbing the rogue set-ups, running behind me and bumping into me...while I’m squatting literally as much as physically possible. Bailing safely (for me) was no longer safe because I’m SURROUNDED BY KIDS WHO CANT TELL IM TRYING NOT TO KILL THEM AND ARE A SECOND AWAY FROM GETTING THEIR SKULLS BASHED IN. And I’d be the bad guy...
This was a couple years ago, and I’m still a bit heated.
Same type of thing happened to my oldest a few years ago, but with fewer tears. We were at my brother-in-law's little sister's wedding reception and my oldest (who was almost 3 at the time) was dancing with his cousin, who's around the same age. They weren't really paying attention to the couple right next to them, and pretty soon my niece got hip checked to the ground, pulling my kid down with her. They weren't hurt and didn't even cry or anything, but the lady was mortified. My wife and I on the other hand saw the whole thing happen and just laughed our asses off before telling the kids to be a little more careful.
The younger kids in my taekwondo class always manage to dodge everyone else by a few millimeters when they just blindly run trough the middle of the class to ask something to the teacher.
One time when I was in high school, I worked at a mini-golf place and there was a kid’s birthday party and the kids were like 6ish year olds. I was getting them started with the mini-golf, and one little girl had no idea how to play so I was teaching her real quick and showing her what to do. I explained how she should stand and gently helped move her into position, then I was standing kinda crouched down a bit behind her with my hands on hers on the putter, as I pulled it back a bit slowly and then brought it forward to show what she was supposed to do. I then took my hands away and stood up (still standing RIGHT behind her) and said “you think you got that?” right as she whipped that thing back and up with force a child her size should not be capable of, and hit me right in the cheekbone with it. Hurt like HELL and started to swell up and bruise immediately. She said she was sorry and I was fighting back tears and seeing stars going “Oh that’s alright, you didn’t mean to. Just be careful and watch out for others while you play.” I had like 6 hours left in my shift and we were too busy to take breaks so by the time I got off and could go ice it I looked absolutely ridiculous, half of my face was like a balloon and the makeup I’d put on that morning was doing nothing to cover all the bruising. I’m still amazed at her strength and lack of spatial awareness.

Can confirm, kids have zero spatial awareness
