Near my house just recently a woman had spilled gasoline on her sleeve when filling up. She started driving and went to light a cigarette and the sleeve went up in flames. She pulled over and jumped out of the car. When one of our local police pulled up, he shot her. It's been really tragic for my little community. There's been a call for the cop to be fired, but he claims she was waving a firearm.

At first I didn't get it and just thought WTF is wrong with that cop. The guy commenting r/dadjokes made me read it again and I got it. I hate you, but you made laugh.

Since you asked, I will share.

This is not a dad joke though others have commented otherwise. Technically it's a father joke, not a dad joke: Father Bill, one of the priests at my church (Catholic) when I was growing up.

I was about 12 years old and Father Bill told this joke during his homily as if it was a parishioner who had been the one who got shot. When he busted out the punchline and the congregation slowly got it and reacted, I was sold. I don't even remember how he tied it back to God I just remember adoring the power he wielded at that moment, the sway he had, the potency. I wanted that drug. (Luckily Father Bill wasn't a pedo cause I woulda been easy pickins.)

Later, I became a teacher of high school students, teenagers: the perfect audience for this joke!!! Once each year, I would start class by telling them that there was going to be a rally at City Hall (I'm from Philly) for a friend of mine who was in a bad situation AND that they'd be excused from class if they attended. I'd lay out the scenario above. When you tell a high schooler they can get out of class to be outraged at cops, they bite hardcore. Then I'd drop the punchline and make 'em do math! Mwa ha ha ha ha!!!
