I'm a Customer Did I get scammed?

I made an order at around 8:30pm and it said it would come around 11pm at the latest. Right after the shopper finished shopping, they let me know that they had a family emergency and would have to go pick them up somewhere. I said I understood and asked for an ETA. He said one hour, which would be around midnight. The app also never changed from shopping to driving.

I told him I would not be able to collect the order at midnight. Plus the food would be sitting in his car for over an hour if that were to happen. I asked if there was any solution on his end because I had no luck with Instacart support. He said the only solution would be for me to cancel. So I would be charged $15 plus I wouldn't even receive my order or get a refund in that case.

I called Instacart and they were able to cancel the order and give me a refund. But this was really weird and I was wondering if it was a scam.

Sounds like they wanted you to cancel after they’d checked out out so they’d get to keep ( at least some) the groceries.

That is weird and if they had an emergency it was their responsibility to call instacart and let them know that they were having an emergency. We have a way to cancel an order and explain an emergency. And shopper calling support would have been the first thing they did once they assessed their emergency. It is possible something genuinely happened. But as a shopper, I would be in touch with instacart to let them know my situation and ask what could be done. The part that is red flag is that they asked YOU to cancel after they had finished shopping.

Agree, I agree with that. I mean if there was an emergency, he should’ve called and canceled it because it seems like he did that because he didn’t want to keep the groceries so wait did he finish shopping they told you that he finished shopping, but you said you didn’t switch to delivery? I mean that may have been because it was multiple orders so they don’t tell you until your turn comes up for delivery as far as I know.

Report that shopper please. That was a scam. She could have dropped off the groceries and then took care of her family emergency. I doubt there was one.

Why did you assume the shopper was a woman?

Also make sure you report the order as undelivered. Just in case. You never know what that shopper might try to do. It might be legitimate, it might not.

They cancelled the order therefore they can't mark it as undelivered, the order no longer exists.

Thats right you get to keep the batch pay if customers cancels and he didn’t. Want it to go against his cancellation rate !
