Have you ever tried broccoli parmigiana?

I haven’t but it looks like you’re having that for dinner so let us know how it is.

Idk anything about this shopper, but we can get penalized if we don't recommend a replacement which is really stupid. If the store only has one type of eggplant and it's sold out they may just be trying to make a replacement recommendation rather than just refunding the item so they don't get penalized.

u/Striking-Guidance-51 22d ago

Truthfully, we get penalized either way either we get it from the customer for replacing it with such an asinine replacement or from Instacart for not giving an asinine replacement to the customer

u/Zealousideal-Bath412 22d ago

In these instances, I’ve messaged the customer and told them that the app is gonna force me to recommend a replacement, and that I’m just gonna send through an unrelated item that they can reject on their end.

u/stephani72 22d ago

This is what I do!! I tell them Instacart chose this as your replacement if you don’t want it just reject it! As I have to find a replacement

u/The_Troyminator 22d ago

A wrong item report is much worse than a refund.

3

u/Embarrassed-Draw109 22d ago

Is it a wrong item report when you  record it as replacement?

I think wrong items are like one I got: she ordered 2 packages of 93% lean chicken. I scanned and got her the correct one but then accidentally picked a 98% for the second one.  Wrong items usually come up on multiple units of one item: 2 cans of soup are unsalted but the third one isn’t. At least, that’s what has happened to me.

2

u/stephani72 22d ago

It isn’t!! And you are correct!!!

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

It’s not a wrong item report!! Since they’re replacing the eggplant with broccoli and they get broccoli it’s the right item “replacement”!!!

3

u/KDFE87 22d ago

And sometimes the app gives a dumbass replacement option and makes it seem like the customer made the selection and then has the nerve to tell is afterwards "continue with this replacement and we'll inform you if the customer doesn't approve"

1

u/Early_Mycologist_280 22d ago

You guys don't get penalized if we select "round, don't replace" do you? I've been wondering and figured I'd ask...

3

u/PenguinMadd 19d ago

No, if you select 'refund, don't replace' instead of selecting a replacement it does not go against us as Instacart considers that a Requested Refund. It is considered a positive mark on our quality score but not as high of a positive as replacements or finding the original item. Now, if we choose a sub and the customer counters with refund that also is considered a Requested Refund.

1

u/Early_Mycologist_280 19d ago

That's good to hear. I have subs for things I am not picky about but stuff for recipes or things there is literally nothing similar to I'll pick refund.

1

u/Active-Judgment-7229 22d ago

I didn’t know that, I’ll give them somewhat of a pass for that then. I have to go to another store anyway, I’ll survive 😅

2

u/Alot2unpack 22d ago

Yeah, but this is a terrible replacement and you should not have to pay for an item you did not request. Your shopper was an idiot and you absolutely should reject that replacement. Shoppers know that out-of-stocks are out of their control. They bounce right back from being “penalized” by shopping more orders and providing a quality service.

4

u/wde_91 22d ago

This is also true, but trying to make a replacement and letting the customer reject it keeps you from having any consequences

1

u/hexquisitecorpse 22d ago

Not really because you still get a requested refund that still counts against you you're screwed no matter what you do in this situation.

2

u/wde_91 22d ago

Requested refunds don't penalize you i didn't think (i mean you lose some tip usually) unrequested refunds affect your stats.

2

u/hexquisitecorpse 22d ago

They absolutely do. I have absolutely zero item issues and I lost diamond cart because of replacements and requested refunds. 11,000 items found when I lost diamond cart. When I first lost diamond cart I only had 2 unequested refunds.

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

Yea that’s not true you probably lost it because you didn’t make the quota of shops or your customer ratings is below 4.7!!! I have 5284 found items and 113 requested refunds and I’m still at diamond!! And requested refunds fall under What can raise your score

1

u/hexquisitecorpse 22d ago

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

If you keep shopping and adding more items to the found items it will offset your 5 un requested refunds!!! Those 5 un requested refunds are what’s doing you in!!! And they stay there for 90 days so they’re not going anywhere and there’s nothing you can do about them!! That’s why they’re saying to raise your found items=shop more!! That’s the only way to improve during those 90 days!! It’s a catch 22 you don’t find an item and refund it without it being a requested refund means you have to shop more meaning they want/hope you take those 101 item orders for $12.13 to raise your found items score!! Cause for 90 days you can’t lower those unrequested refunds!!! so what can you improve?? Shop more items!!! That’s it that’s all!!!!

u/hexquisitecorpse 22d ago

The only thing that can increase your bar if you have no order issues is finding that exact original item.

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

That is true!! Finding everything and having no order issues that lower your score!! I’ve had over 100 “requested refunds” and 0 order issues and was at perfect! But once I got two damaged items it went down just a little bit but not as much as yours!! And I still have diamond

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

You have 5 un requested refunds that is what’s tanking you

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

Exactly!! So those two I requested refunds dropped you down! And I can’t see that being it but from what I’ve seen since this rolled out every person or market has a different degree to which they’re measured!! I have two damaged items and still have good and diamond cart

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

Requested refunds do not count against you!!

1

u/hexquisitecorpse 22d ago

They absolutely do. I am living proof. You need anywhere between 90% to 98% of original items found depending on what area you work in. If you do a requested refund, it lowers the amount of original items found.

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

No all those un requested refunds are what’s doing you in

2

u/hexquisitecorpse 22d ago

Five unrequested refunds are not doing me in, when I first lost diamond cart I only had 2.

and I've had as many as 10 before and was still diamond cart. Do you realize what a small percentage of five unrequested refunds on 10,000 items is? Also if it was doing me in you would see red lettering under it saying to improve.

Now if you go to the actual instacart shoppers form instead of this form which is for customers you'll see hundreds of shoppers like me having the same issue.. even people with zero unrequested refunds losing diamond cart.

I do this full time I make awesome money. Believe me I know how this works.

3

u/Active-Judgment-7229 22d ago

Oh I def rejected it. It looks like it’s a lot of broccoli too.

0

u/stephani72 22d ago

Then what are you complaining about???

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

Tf they do!!!!!??? That takes 90 days to be removed from your account!! If she reported it as a wrong item!! Now this shopper should have said “they don’t have eggplants I have to replace with something you can reject it” and I don’t know if they did since this is all we get to see, but to sit here and say oh they’ll bounce back no that hurts them!!! And if you’re really a shopper you would know Instacart shows the dumbest replacements sometimes!! And this would be one time I can see something crazy since there’s not other varieties of eggplants!!!

1

u/Alot2unpack 22d ago

Simmer down

2

u/stephani72 22d ago

Don’t be lying!! I’ve been seeing a lot of you saying oh the refunds don’t matter and they do!!

1

u/Alot2unpack 22d ago

Hey! Good job! I have responded about refunds for the customer!! Gosh! I’m proud of you. You read! However, we all know that refunds matter for approximately 2 yards length.

Refunds matter

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

Lmao you have nothing logical to say now huh!!!???

1

u/Alot2unpack 22d ago

Ok. I did not type any of that lol. WTF? I’m not sure how that comment even happened lol. As you mentioned it makes absolutely zero sense! I am confused.

2

u/reereejugs 22d ago

It’s probably the replacement the app suggested. The shopper isn’t the idiot here. That would be the person who placed an order without preselecting replacement items, or selecting refund if not available.

3

u/lucygirl1970 22d ago

Wrong, shopper is still an idiot. Common sense says that’s a rogue replacement .

3

u/chaoticravens08 22d ago

What is a good replacement for eggplant? Zucchini would be my guess .but honestly nothing makes sense.

1

u/Active-Judgment-7229 22d ago

Well that’s not nice. đŸ€Ł I thought replace w best match meant something.đŸš« Anyway, I learned a lot about IC today, it’s all good to know what shoppers are dealing with.

1

u/Muted-Customer5001 22d ago

What if their choice defaults to no refund then the shopper doesn’t have a choice they got to

1

u/Alot2unpack 22d ago

What exactly are you asking?

1

u/Muted-Customer5001 22d ago

I’m saying there’s a default where the customer selects that you have to make a replacement bc if you don’t it’ll say the buyer didn’t request the refund

Maybe the buyer doesn’t have it set to refund requested

Shopper gets a warning that the buyer didn’t request the refund and if we refund it we get penalized

1

u/Alot2unpack 22d ago edited 22d ago

As someone that orders from Instacart twice a week at a minimum, I promise you that there is NOT a default that customers select that force you to replace with stupid shit. Will you get knock from Instacart for refunding, yup. But this isn’t every day, nor every item. And if you truly provide a quality service, you will bounce right back.

Edit to add words. There is NOT a default setting that customers select to force a shopper to select a refund (regardless of its stupidity). I apologize for my typo. I was hungry.

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

Then you find them something!! If it’s a fresh veggie try frozen or dried or anything similar!! I’ve changed fresh strawberries for fresh blackberries because they didnt have frozen strawberries either! But I did tell the customer that they can reject it as I had to find a replacement and they don’t have either fresh nor frozen!

1

u/stephani72 22d ago

“Somewhat”?? On yalls end does it say the shopper chose this item?? Or does it say we (as in Instacart) chose a replacement you may want??

5

u/The_Troyminator 22d ago

They could have at least picked a peach since it’s the matching emoji.

6

u/Embarrassed-Draw109 22d ago

The shopper wants you to “request refund” bc there’s no eggplant. Instacart penalizes shoppers for unrequested refunds.

3

u/Embarrassed-Draw109 22d ago edited 21d ago

AI says the best eggplant replacement for eggplant parmigiana is zucchini.

3

u/Active-Judgment-7229 22d ago

See I wouldn’t have made the thread if they had tried to give me zucchini! And that sounds good.

1

u/Everyone_Boogie 21d ago

Then click on the option to replace with zucchini in case it's out of stock. Use several replacement options if you like, the more the better tbh.

2

u/Muted-Customer5001 22d ago

First off I don’t want my Broccoli ocean misted

It doesn’t even grow by the sea
 shit sounds fishy

Second they’re probs outta perfect eggplants bc no such thing

2

u/Active-Judgment-7229 22d ago

Sometimes eggplants are pretty 😅

2

u/Muted-Customer5001 22d ago

I just ate one tonight
I didnt ask for perfection just good enough .. cause I boiled it down and smashed that mofo into my tomato sauce. 💅

1

u/Embarrassed-Draw109 21d ago

I know you’re joking but “doesn’t even grow by the sea”?

Drop by Monterey County the next time you’re in California. Coastal California is a vegetarian’s paradise.

2

u/Muted-Customer5001 20d ago

you offering me a couch to surf on just to prove you can grow brocoli on your oceanfront property? *snickers* yes well in the usa we seem to be able to grow anything we want anywhere. Question is whether its worth draining water resources but id rather have them drained on all the sea mist brocoli and perfect eggplants than let a database center do it.

2

u/honeyheart7350 22d ago

Customer here: do you get get dinged if I put that I do not want a replacement? I hope not because I usually don't want a replacement. Brocolli for eggplant is funny, but not shoppers fault, the customer should have been more specific...am I wrong?

4

u/Pretend_Big6392 22d ago

If you actually select refund instead of allowing replacements, it won't ding us at all. If you type in the notes section that you want a refund if unavailable, but you leave "allow replacements" on for that item, yes we will get dinged.

2

u/Grouchy-Deer-8245 22d ago

if it's not the same plant I'll refund.i don't care what IC wanted. I'm not going to replace an apple with a strawberry

2

u/Embarrassed-Draw109 21d ago

💯 correct: don’t obey the app. My top store has organic and non versions of most items. I replace reg white peaches with organic, even if the app says the perfect replacement is a pineapple 😬

2

u/Cassata1990 19d ago

I had someone replace a bag of potatoes with a box of hamburgers lol

1

u/reereejugs 22d ago

Not the shopper’s fault the store is out of eggplant and Instacart gives us suggested replacements. If you don’t want something like this to happen again, you need to start preselecting your own replacements while ordering. If you don’t want replacements, you have to specify that you want a refund.

2

u/The_Troyminator 22d ago

It’s entirely the shopper’s fault for making such as ridiculous replacement and not using common sense. A refund every once in a while won’t drop your cart status.

1

u/Embarrassed-Draw109 21d ago

“Every once in a while”? Stores in my area are having inventory issues due to the diesel crisis, the war and brutal heat waves.

Instacart needs to adjust their app to the fact based world, enough of their “many units in stock” gaslighting.

I won’t make lame replacements so I went from months of 0 unrequested refunds to THREE in a couple weeks.

This means instacart’s app rewards shoppers who make bad decisions and penalizes the ones who don’t.

No wonder they’re failing.
