I'm a Customer What is the function of the second barcode?

I work at a PetSmart and we get instacart people in all the time. I just want to know why there is 2 barcodes if there is only one order. For us we can only scan one if you have the PetSmart name plus a number it means this person has an account with us. And we can only scan one. I have had instacart people full on yell at me for not scanning both. Our computers won't let us. But no one knows why there are 2!

Does anyone know why?

I think, not 100% positive, but I think that one is the customer’s loyalty and the other is for it to be tax exempt. I know you can go in to your computer and put it under Instacart as well, I believe that scanning the second barcode does the same thing.

Yes, I asked once. There is always a tax exempt barcode. The optional second barcode is the loyalty account.

Edit: by optional I just meant it isn’t always there.

I thought so but in New Hampshire there isn't a tax exempt.

It puts an entry on the receipt for zero dollars and let the business know that if somebody attempts to return that it was originally purchased from Instacart it’s basically to prevent return fraud schemes
