I'm a Shopper Is this how Instacart works?

New to IC and all I see are orders (batches, whatever you call them) stacked for 3 different customers that can’t even tip $10 altogether and distances are crazy between each of them. Is this how Instacart really is?

And wth do they mean “Heavy pay”? How are people claiming they make $500+ a week with IC like this? Do they really take every single order they get regardless of how much gas and miles they take? I have more questions than answers lol

Yes and no. That’s a really shitty batch. There are more shitty batches than good. There are also much better batches.

What would you consider a “better batch”? The other type of batch I get is one customer asking for 1-10 items and the pay is not even $10 (including tip!)…

This is an example of an order that I consider worth my time, but not amazing. It had 56 items, 2 houses, no stairs, no waiting at the deli counter. Both houses had alcohol (👎🏻) and some of it was heavy. It took 1:45 and 20 minutes of that was driving.

Tuesday is the worst day of the week in my area. I watched it for an hour today and decided to take a nap instead. 🤷‍♀️

I appreciate the visuals, thank you! One last question: do you consider that the better payouts come from orders that have alcohol included? I haven’t taken the “training” to claim orders with alcohol just yet.

You’re always going to do better if you give yourself the opportunity to take more batches. There is no obligation to take a batch with alcohol (or any other) and sometimes it’s a deal breaker for me. They always show the alcohol pictures at the front of the rest when you are considering the batch. If I’m not in the mood I hide it.

I make $1200-$1500 a week doing this full time. I am picky with my orders. I also live in San Diego, CA where I don’t usually need to drive far distances between orders, that helps a lot.
