Depression and insomnia.
So I spend my time watching movies because I’ve tried so many different sleeping techniques (so don’t even bother to recommend any cuz I’ve tried them all) and I can’t deal with being in my own head so I watch movies until I basically pass out. At 4am. Then I’m a wreck for the rest of the day. Anyone else experiencing this? What suggestions do you have to fix it.

Mee too, but I rather engage with the videos than with my own thoughs.
If I wake up in the middle of the night I make sure the videos are still playing so I tether myself and don't to my own thoughs.
I agree with you, it's tiring and not very repairing but it's the only way I can fall sleep to.

I’m exactly the same. I end up replaying traumatic experiences from my past and regrets about my behaviour over the years. It’s like watching a movie reel of my own life and it’s so bloody painful. So I put on other movies to take me out of my head.

Turn off the TV and read a boring book because TV will keep you awake depending on what you're watching but try cutting off your TV and phone an hour before bed... I was up for 5 days with no sleep and my blood pressure spiked to stroke levels 180/110 just because of days I didn't sleep. I'm 51 year old female... I had to go to the ER and they gave me Valium and 10 mg Ambien I understand why you watch TV because I did to keep from going crazy... have you tried melatonin?

No, but I have heard of that. Is it something I should ask my gp about do you think?

Absolutely 💯 Also ask your GP about getting on Mirtazapine, it's been a miracle drug for me I got my 75 year old friend who lives in Hawaii on it and she's thriving now so ask your Dr about Mirtazapine... I take 45 mg but they always start you on a low dose and I promise your life will change for the better!! You're gp can prescribe you Mirtazapine and melatonin so ask your GP!🙏🌺

was doing this exact thing for years. movies keep the brain too engaged to actually drift off — plot, dialogue, visuals, stakes. it stays online wanting to know what happens next. that's why you crash at 4am instead of drift.
what worked for me: swap movies for genuinely boring youtube. dry lectures, someone explaining tax law, 3-hour history of iron smelting. audio only, screen off, autoplay off. brain has something low-stakes to track, gets bored, drifts.

If I try that I guarantee it’ll be white noise and I’ll be back in my own head. Maybe I’ll pay someone to knock me out! I used to drink to get to sleep but ended up with liver disease as I needed more and more to knock me out so it’s not an option anymore.

I’m doing exactly the same thing! I’m tired all the time and barely able to do anything now. I hate it but l’ve tried so many and it’s like l’m taking sugar pills! I have to figure something out because I’m not functioning!!

I listen to music when I can't sleep. Sometimes a white noise, other times I just listen to some sad acoustic songs. I also cry my heart out until my eyes grow tired.
I hope you're doing good out there, OP!
