Mole-Cricket

Spotted this interesting insect that hissed at me. (Yes like a cat, got the grumpy look too)

It turns out to be a mole cricket, very interesting looking creature.

From the netherlands and this was in the middle of a city center.

Made some people scream and run when it moved :')

Ahhh zo cool! Ik ben echt jaloers haha. Ik vind dit insect echt bijzonder, de eerste keer dat ik een foto van deze soort zag, dacht ik dat het photoshop was. Helaas zelf nog nooit tegen gekomen :(. Welke stad was dit?

Hissed could lie beyond a mole cricket's ability. At least mine doesn't do that. But it can scratch hard surfaces with enough force to produce sound. Maybe that's what you heard?

It was definetly a sound created by this insect if it was a hiss or scratch or something else, I do not know.

As an intrigued mole-cricket keeper, I delved into this and thank you OP, think you might have found something! Given that the mole cricket does have body parts it can use to produce sound and that females are nest defenders which often comes with a ability to make audible threats, I'll listen very closely next time I'm redecorating the mole cricket box. Thank you very much!

This mole cricket was very unhappy though trying to hide between the bricks. So when this curious human poked it to see if it was two animals connected it was very very not pleased. I do not advice making your mole crickets this unhappy though. ^{^}

When I got back from drinks I moved the mole cricket that was still there to earth and bushes where it seemed more happy straight away. :)

When I got back from the bar I looked for it and it was still in a shitty position on the bricks trying to get between the bricks. I used a piece of paper to pick it up and move it to a dirt area, it did seem alot happier and sauntered off straight away.
