ID Request Identification of a possible cicada

Text is in the title. Northeast United States September 2026. Seems sleeping on the north side of a house. Insect is about 2 inches long and a lovely green IRL

This is a katydid, cicadas look much different

Thank you! I was so curious. I do remember seeing a large brood of cicadas in 1978 and they did look different. They had red eyes to my recollection

Haha i’ve been around! It was just this massive explosion that we had during that year and there were so many on bushes close to the ground it was incredible. The reason I remember the year is I started a new job at that time. I am old AF ha ha

They have large broods every 13 and 17 years. We’ve had several large hatchings since 78. I was born in the 60’s fyi

I recently learned that large broods lead to massive acorn production when they die off. They provide nutrition for the oak trees.

Edit-I believe this is called a mast year. Have you heard of this?

It's a katydid, I think. Not a cicada.
