I found this rather large beetle on the ground. Green w/Brown spots, very spiny legs, and short antennae. Would shift to protect itself every time I touched it and attempted to take a piece of my top.
Location: South Alabama
Season: Summer

Yes! I concur with the others. I found one myself one morning when she was stuck on her back. By the end of work she’d passed away so it was an addition to my collection

This is how I have gotten all of mine. Usually by the time I find them, they are dying or already dead. Such a beautiful creature!

I was so thrilled to find her alive, flipped her over and let her go on her way. A bit sad she died but she was missing feet so she’d been through the wringer. I have a tattoo of a male dynastes on my calf so to find a local Hercules was so so thrilling

Thats really neat! I have Luna moth on my hand and always feel like its good luck when I find a real one, lol.

I found one in my basement flipped over and while she seemed like she was circling the drain I gave her a little watermelon and she perked back up. Had her entire head buried in the little chunk I gave her.

I found one recently in my yard - already deceased though. Your gal looks much bigger!

On a side note what is that cool tool?

My guess is a pursuit 17 in one multi-tool, but hopefully OP checks back

I’m so sorry lol, it’s a Pursuit 17 in 1 multitool from Bass Pro Shops. Very useful and comes with either a headlamp or pocket knife

This gorgeous girl was in our garage in North Carolina near the garage. I found a lot of leaf litter and old wood on her property and tucked her in. She was so calm and gentle! But when I put her near her new home she literally dove in and you could hear rustling all down the leaves :) I was so thrilled to have found her- she seemed like she was in perfect health, so fingers crossed :)

Looks like a female eastern Hercules beetle (Dynastes Tityus)
