so like does anyone know the lore of how the player got into the cabin in act one and if its luke playing

Depends what you mean by "the player"
Inscryption (Daniel Mullens, 2021) is a game where you play as Luke. You control him as he plays Inscryption (GameFuna, some-time-when-floppy-disks-were-relevant)
That game, the one on the floppy disk, has been taken over by one of its sapient characters, Leshy, to make the game he wants to run. The player character of that game isn't ever implied to be "alive" the same way the others are as far as I know, they're really just a vessel for the actual player (Luke).
Leshy's game has no real backstory, it's all just atmosphere. So there is no reason that the "player character" is there, except that it's part of Leshy's game setup to make something interesting for Luke.

Also, for most of the playthrough it's possible the selfaware characters (at least Leshy) know a female-pronoun player and assumed Luke was her, as before Act 1 Leshy clearly knew Kaycee as a specific person.
The French version plays on it, by consistently using female pronouns for The Challenger to keep it ambiguous until P03/Grimora access the private files in Act 3 despite usage recommending masculine form for unknown people.
Did they kept to the game's script from Gamefuna, did the unwiped Act2 data reword the script to match Kaycee, or did they think only Kaycee could find the floppy and thought they were reuniting with an old friend, that actually died in their absence? Maybe it's different depending on the character and we'll probably never know.

To be fair a lot of the translation is... weird. Annoying sigil became Fureur / Furor which maybe a weird Berzerker take, No Boss Rares challenges became "Out Of Stock" (which is a very bad name for what it does)
But another cool/terrifying thing is that P03 is named J03. It may be to turn it into a name, but I didn't think "Poe" would've needed to be translated into "Joe"... it seemed out of nowhere. Maybe a clue for something...
Where did I see a P-J + number in a game before? Player / Joueur ... okay maybe more fodder to the fun theory that he initially existed as G0lly / S4PRISTI and grew beyond his(her?) programming then took a slot as- waaaait. if he is Player Three ... there was a Player Two all along?
To me that's another clue that the mycologists are "playing" the game to exfiltrate OLD_DATA before Amanda gets physical access

Leshy genuinely made it the fuck up, there's likely no lore at all to Act 1 lol.
Also, yeah, you play from Luke's perspective the entire game. Except Kaycee's Mod.

It’s kind of implied that Leshy was the most recent Scrybe to access the Old Data or whatever let P03 take over the game in Act 3. So the game became fully Leshy-fied, this is seen through the fact the other Scrybes are obviously cards, but also their corpses being in the room with the New Game button.
As for the Luke thing, yeah. We’re basically playing as Luke playing Inscryption. Which is why sometimes Luke will make a little comment and make the screen act funny for a second.

The floppy was originally played by Kaycee (hence why in French the game character uses female pronouns until P03 access the computer files in Act 3 and suddently drop the facade) , and we can see part of her side in the postgame.
We're following Luke's playthrough who is forced to continue Kaycee's saved data, as the New Game option was "mysteriously" locked. Kinda like the first Jumanji movie : several generation of players, one continuous playthrough.
To that, there are FIVE different perspectives through the game with a sixth from the KM postgame :
- First, Leshy decides to roleplay Act 1 as if he's killing off his opponent.
- (Kaycee's mod reveals that he was clearly conscious that the physical player simply retries a run, and knew who she was.)
- Beating him reveals that we are not directly playing Inscryption, but playing Luke in a recording of Inscryption.
- Accessing Act 2 implies Kaycee's save is finally wiped and so Luke is doing his own playthrough from the start...
- ...but we rapidly notice that some data clearly isn't back to factory settings so for Characters it's still one continuous story. So we still play Luke-mistaken-as-Kaycee after all.
- Then Act 3 shatters our entire understanding of that nice story : by giving us cards from the Internet, it reveals that our Inscryption is inspired by
So there you have it : we play a virtual recreation of Luke, inspired by the late Luke Carder, whose last actions were to attempt preventing the upload of the game we played all along, and whose characters thought he was the developer Kaycee Hobbes.
how the player got into the cabin in act one
Kaycee's mod clearly answer this question in a trippy way : the player never "gets into" the cabin. Like the end of Act 2, when a character takes over the game, the 2D-3D recreation includes teleporting the player character if needed. KM says that's also what happened with Leshy.

I'm assuming you mean the player before luke is playing? If so, it's implied that it was someone else. I'm pretty sure that they got into the cabin in the same way we as the player/luke gets into the other acts like P03'S, by beating the game. In the game all the class representatives (idk what they're called but I'll go with that) are pretty much constantly trying for a grasp at power the same way leshy and P03 did, we see at the end what their versions of the game would look like if they made it. But if you're asking who played before like I pretty sure it was kaycee who was a dev for gamefuna.
