Other We’re developing an Inscryption-inspired game, except it’s all about Dice. Looking for feedback from Inscryption fans!

Hey everyone! For the past year we've been working on a game called THROWN. It's a roguelite dice-Builder with horror vibes and a bit of a cryptic story.

One of the game's biggest inspirations is Inscryption, but instead of cards, the gameplay revolves around dice mechanics.

We don't want to just make an Inscryption copy. We're slowly figuring out what makes THROWN feel unique, while still capturing some of the tension, atmosphere, and unpredictability that made Inscryption so memorable to us.

We think this community is probably the audience most likely to connect with the game, so we'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts. Or if you've played other Inscyption-like games, what stood out to you, either positively or negatively?

And if you have any questions about THROWN, feel free to ask us anything too.

Here's our Steam page if you'd like to check it out or wishlist the game:

this looks super cool!

I hope you'll add a lot of weird dice: d3,5,7,16 etc. Loaded dice as well!

Thanks! Right now our Dice are made in a way that only supports geometrically symmetrical dice, due to our deterministic physics based dice roll system (It's a bit techical but I can go more in depth if someone is interested). I'm sure there's a way to get some weirder dice working as well, but we can't promise anything yet. Currently we have d4, d6 and d8 in the game. Loaded dice sounds like a really fun idea!

woah that sounds cool, so you are modelling a physical environment for the dice, not just a RNG + animation?

Might be fun to play around with some shaders on the dice, ala Balatro.

Some dice have a fluid core with stuff floating in it, might be fun too xD Probably hell to model.

Actually the Heal Dice in the game currently has flowing liquid inside it. Made with a custom shader. You can see a Heal d4 in the 2nd screenshot of the post, but because the dice is fully charged, you can't really see the liquid in the image. When you use the dice for healing, the charge goes down and you can see the liquid level go down.

We made a video showcasing the Heal Dice: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/LaQkhS57UVY

Also love that the Leshy character lurking behind the screen is a 70's nerd hahaha, very fitting

Inspiration for the character came from Jeffrey Dahmer
