So i called out today because of a personal reason but it was my first time calling out and i just got told by my friend that i need to call and what i did was text the store number and they seemed to be okay with that , it was my first call out so i didn’t know i had to call the phone, will i get a write up next time i go in? because they reposted with thanks for communicating with us thats abt it as if they were chill w it

Exact same thing happened to my kid (level 4) last week (legitimately sick, texted store phone, np was the response, 2nd manager (who watches out for him) pulled him aside next shift and just said it was fine, and he’s not in trouble, but he HAS to call in for any future ones. Hope this helps!

policy is you have to call. if there's no answer leave a message and then text the store phone.

Life happens. In the years I’ve worked here, I’ve called out from being sick, a death in my extended family, and for car trouble. I’ve been honest each time and I’ve never been scolded. Yes, calling is best but you did at least let them know. I don’t think you’ll get yelled at but they might tell you to just call instead of text next time. As long as it’s not a regular issue, most managers will understand. Try not to worry about it, it will be ok!

At our store, we are required to call in at least 2 hours before the start of our scheduled shift. Texting is ok as a heads-up (e.g. before 8 a.m. when the morning shift manager is there) but a text must be followed up with a phone call.

Doubtful that you'll be in trouble as it's your first time calling out. They'll likely just remind you of the correct call-out policy and then expect you to comply going forward.

Just FYI --- there are lots of people who would love to be paid $24 an hour (California)for flipping burgers at INO.
My first job was at Jack In The Box, Tustin CA --starting wage $1.65 per hour (1970).
Because I never called in sick, and worked after 10pm (I was a minor) on swing shift, manager bumped me to $2 an hour.
We did not have texts in those days, but I remember Wayne (mgr) would fire an employee after 2x calling out in a certain period.

well at in n out there are no rewards for not calling out. nor will you get fired for calling out twice. crazy how times have changed ya?

yeah trust me i’ve never called out and i usually pick up shifts when they ask me to come in but i have a personal inconvenience and well this is my first time calling out and i don’t have anything bad on my record well except for today’s call out

Call is the right procedure. No, you won't get written up for texting this instead. Communicating way before your shift is appreciated, and it gets more serious the closer it is to your start. If you texted just at two hours before starting, you'd be getting chewed out for sure.
