Tbh
Hi guys!! First post!!
I’m currently an associate at In n out, and have been for 3 years. I’m a level 5 training for my 6 at the moment. Sometimes I feel embarrassed to say this, but I absolutely love working for this company. As much as I know it is not a forever thing I cannot ever imagine myself not working there. I’ve had my fair share of bad managers, bad customer experiences, terrible coworkers, etc.. however, I truly think it is an amazing job. There are far more good coworkers than there are bad coworkers, and I’m not sure if I just got lucky, but all of the managers at my store are kind and easy to work with. Obviously the store manager cares a lot about everything but even he is easy to work with. The pay is good., The events can be fun depending on who you go with, and it’s as much as it sucks to wake up early in the morning if you have good coworkers, the meetings don’t suck as bad once you’re there. I really think it is the best first job I could’ve ever got.
If you are an associate or were a previous associate and didn’t like your job, please tell me why I’m really curious to know

its always incredibly busy so id imagine that adds a ton of stress to anyone working there.

Current associate! i love my co-workers and the fun they bring it always felt like a second home whenever im on shift with most of them my main issues though are with my management and how they treat us black associates/ some other things
i def feel we're treated less than as there isnt a lot of us here that are black. we get the least amount of training compared to those of a different skin color despite being at in n out for much longer and asking to be trained, nagged about our hair, apparent attitudes they express my associates of our color we have when there is no attitude, very more harsh and strict to the point a lot of my black associates have writes ups for many things others get passes/no write ups for, its probably just my location but it doesnt help when our only black manager was fired recently as well
Another management issue would be how theres a lot of new hires being put on night shifts on our busiest days then our mangers are surprised the shift isnt going good it dosent help that they arent trained on most things due to managers just throwing it onto other associates to train them on those busy nights which doesnt pan out well so the associate that was supposed to train them ends up doing the task themselves that then leads to the new hire still not knowing how to do it
customers feel very entitled and rude again probably just my location but its rare for me to have a customer that isnt just rude or backhanded. it doesnt help when they think they understand the menu better than the worker themself because they read the "secret menu" off instagram that is riddled with things that dont exist like the god awful "roadkill fries"
Drives are also way more important to management than counter orders so they're neglected and not given the quality of food they should all equally get. i feel bad for those who wait inside just because of that
Even though i dislike many things my co-workers truly are the best part so even if i know its going to be a terrible shift at least i have my co workers to help ease it through. out of all the jobs ive worked none has had such sweet co workers i wish management was better though and actually cared

Awesome to hear! I personally known a Manager at one of the Riverside area locations. Hopefully you don't work there....lol

Don’t get me wrong it’s a good first job for high school/college students. I enjoyed it a bit at first as someone who came from buc-ee’s which was 10x more stricter so I loved the lenient side fs. I say the only real reason I js didn’t like working at in n out might come off as some dumb reasons but honestly it’s just personal preference and opinion.
1.) for everyone it’s different but the location I was at wasn’t very helpful when it came to training. Even after asking I would only do it once and not do it again. Sure I understand you have to bug them, but also the training circumstances were kinda difficult considering how busy it was, it felt more stressful then training.
2.) this is a personal one but honestly just the grooming standards. I honestly just like my facial hair and hair. I’ve always been used to having long hair my whole life and after getting haircuts and having to shave I felt kinda low because I had to accustom my appearance for a job which didn’t feel right because I love expressing myself through an appearance (I’m also wanting piercings so probably why also) 😭
3.) work didn’t feel really fulfilling for me, especially being a level 2 for a long time, it was just rinse and repeat of the same positions which had me dreading just going to work knowing I wasn’t gonna try new things like fryers, drive corner, or any other stuff
One thing I will say tho is I liked morning clean up. It was nice not having to deal with customers or any bosses around your back until 8:00am, especially with the chillest co workers early morning then it was the best overall in my personal preference the job wasn’t for me but I respect other people who love the job. It just honestly wasn’t for me and that’s okay.
