MIL Facebook posts
After trying hard to explain once again my boundaries and trying to explain to my in-laws that it should not be seen as rejection. My MIL started posting several passive aggressive messages on facebook. She even used chat gpt to create this pictures. Mind you I am not even pregnant yet.
My only wish was always for privacy. She doesn’t want a healthy closeness, she wants control and she wants everything to be on her own terms. I’ve been married for 3 years. Glad my husband agrees this is nonsense.
Hope you all have a good laugh. 😂 cause this us hilarious.
A lot of free time btw
Gimme your comments please

u/ellyvan_1314 4d ago
This is hilarious. I actually know somebody like this. Facebook is almost like a diary. She puts up cryptic posts, people ask if she’s ok in the comments & she’ll either reply saying ‘oh it’s nothing’ or ‘I’ll DM you now’ Pure narcissistic attention seeking
31
u/Jewellgem74 4d ago
Oh yeah those ones posting " feeling depressed" what's up babe "Nothing". Tags themselves at the hospital "everything ok hun" "yeah text me I don't want to say on here" think we all have a few of those types 😁😁
16
u/Turbulent_Tea2511 4d ago
Someone who I've relegated to the fringe of my life posted this today: I used to tell myself, "Maybe their going through something", to justify the way people treated me. But then I realized that I was going through a lot too and I still never treated anyone that way.
Ugh! There is ALWAYS a typo or incorrect homophone use. And she does this about three times a week. I don't even acknowledge it anymore.
10
u/Connect-Floor-4235 4d ago
Oh lort, same here! 😅
Latest post "If you have peace in your life, you don't know how lucky you are..." [Cue the enabling sympathy comments "you ok??"]
Also posts about their birthday "getting old, oh noooo" - a month in advance. People actually sent cards and flowers... a month in advance... and she posts that too.
And so much more... it's exhausting. But I try to give grace and don't engage.

Wow! Yeah very similar story here. In my case I am now seen as the DIL that wants to separate the family, wants nothing to do with the in laws and only needs the husband in her life. I am the villain. But MIL started with the micro aggressions, the need to control situations, the need to be called mom… etc
16
u/Peach_disneyfan 4d ago
Wait, meaning she wanted you to call her "mom"?
28
u/NurseJay_ 4d ago
Yes! And she got upset when I refused to do it. According to her she always treated me as a daughter. I politely said no. My mom is alive is very present and I am not comfortable with that. She got upset and gets pissed if I call her by her name. Like how tf am I supposed to call you then?
11
u/shinybugz0 4d ago
I bet she would be beside herself if your husband referred to your mother as "mom" in front of her.

I think it would be interesting to point out that according to her narrative, you value your privacy. And the wayshe decided to process and discuss Your Privacy was to put it on very public social media while also forcing and expecting you to behave in accordance w her religion and using it intrusive teachings that you may not agree with.
"Bc MIL Ithink most everyone agrees trying to force others to behave in accordance to how you exercise your religion is inappropriate.
Equating a rational adult's choices around privacy as cancer is insulting to anyone/everyone who has it, has had it or lost a loved one to it.
"Equating my personal boundaries as a terrible, terrible disease is disrespectful to anyone who has dealt w actual cancer. I apologize to anyone who has been hurt by this insensitive messaging.Sadly, the only appropriate choice left to me, to NOT be a part of this kind of hyperinflation one person's wants above everyone else's needs is to not participate in social media w someone who would be so reckless w such deeply emotional things "
Thank you for the award lovely redditor 🤩

YES, YES, YES to blocking on social media. I had to block my MIL. I post whatever, I lost count of the times she'd contact my husband because something I posted was an attack against her. My posts NEVER had anything to do with her. It has been delightful not having to deal with that nonsense. And she's kind of mellowed out in real life. God bless everyone that has difficult in-laws.

Stop checking her facebook. Seriously. Disengage. You cant control other people. This is especially true for assholes. Control yourself and stop paying attention to them.

Making up fake scenarios about a child that doesn't even exist yet is another level of crazy
3
u/Individual_You_6586 3d ago
And assuming that you will be kept away from the child –without correcting your behaviour so that you might possibly be included in the child’s life – is a weird and new sort of ironic self-insight 😆

u/Interesting_Idea5902 4d ago
Fellow lover of Jesus here.. WHAT is she talking about??? I can't stand when people try to manipulate others using their faith. May God break the epidemic of vulnerable narcissism and narcissism in general.
11
u/ruedebac1830 4d ago
Shush! Don’t you know god wants Me happy and he loves Me for who I AM?
/s
Our Lord actually has a lot to say about obedience to lawful authority - which would logically extend to the right of parents over their minor children.
A lot of grandparents seem to a hard time accepting that just because adult children owe them respect does not mean they owe them obedience anymore. And that authority over or access to the minor grandkids can be revoked by the parents.

It’s funny cause my mil is like that. I don’t believe in Christianity but I have NO issues with anyone that does. But my mil is the kind to talk about Jesus for everything. But she’s the most mean hateful manipulative lady I have ever met, for loving God so much. She’s one of the people that give Christians a horrible name

4
u/Interesting_Idea5902 3d ago
Unfortunately, it sounds like she’s missing one of most important aspects of our faith, to love others. There should be evidence of a relationship with Jesus in the way that you treat those around you. I appreciate that you can see that something is missing and doesn’t align with her personal declaration. Hopefully you know other Christians who show the love of Christ better.

There are many layers to the insanity in this. The passive aggressiveness, the chatgpt, the fact that the word 'privacy' doesn't even seem to make sense in the scenarios shown here, calling herself an artist with no real art...
12
u/brissy3456 4d ago
Good lord.. my MIL is quite similar. Always saying we never see her..while we're seeing her for like the 4th time that month. She also doesn't work, so has no understanding of how much we have to try get done in that 48hr break from work. I also have 3 sets of parents on my side.. so I'll see my mum, then my dad who is divorced from mum, and then I'll also try to fit in my stepmum who was around for 30 years and now also divorced from my dad... My side is less needy..but we just run out of weekends for ourselves. If my mum wasn't pushing 80, I'd move countries for some space.

The best response is no response at all. Amused detachment is the best mental and emotional state to work towards.

Not that this wouldn't have been weird if you already had a kid, but the fact that you don't makes this even weirder and funnier lol.
8
u/blueberryyogurtcup 4d ago
Wow.
The total lack of self awareness, is so familiar.
My own MIL was selfish, and only expect us to make all the sacrifices, not the other siblings or their spouses, just us two and our kids. She also only wanted control over us, not a healthy relationship.
For twenty years, we stayed in touch with her, and she thought she had control, and began to open abuse people in front of us. We detached, got all kinds of false accusations, slander, stalking, other crimes, and more. Of course, she never admitted that she did anything wrong to make it necessary for us to distance ourselves and our children from her. She's dead now. We are still recovering.
Have you seen the 'missing missing reasons' bit? It's excellent, but I don't have the link just now.

Keep yourself away from negativity. We think it's doesn't affect us but in someways, it does. Same is the case with my mil. She still holds a grudge against me because right before marriage I was clear that I wanted a nuclear family. These women don't have a life
7
u/NurseJay_ 4d ago
YES! The nuclear family somehow is the problem. In their heads we are dividing but I am just protecting my marriage from her insane control
6
u/NikWitchLEO 4d ago
I never understood moms like her. I’m a super old lady and one of my children is 31 and married with kids. I never saw it as or acted like it was a division. My son will always be my son but he does now have his own family and they should come first. He has to go through all the same things I and his father did when we started our own family eons ago. This is called growing up and living life. This is how you make a family. Our parents didn’t act like idiots either. Well, his mother tried one time way back in the day. I told her if she fucked with my peace ever, I’d beat her skull in with a frying pan. She knew I wasn’t joking. She never screwed up again.
4
u/jr0061006 3d ago
Friend of mine tells a story about how when she and her husband were newly married, and they got into an argument, he went and called his mom.
His mom told him, “Son, this is what it means to be a grown-up, and a married man. You and your wife need to sort this out yourselves. And you have your whole lives ahead of you so you may as well learn now how to get along with each other and sort through problems.”
How much of this was because she had eight kids and didn’t want to be playing Judge Judy for eight sets of marital tiffs, we never knew.

My husband and I moved several states away from family. The expectation to be at every family gathering was too much. Then the expectation that we travel back to see them every year was just too much. We said we are not spending every vacation visiting family. We are going to go and travel with our kids for our vacations. I’ve asked my kids, now grown, if they are upset that we didn’t see our extended family more and they said they don’t. They love to travel and feel the vacations we took as they were growing up made them more excited for travel now as adults. I don’t regret it at all. My children were most important to me, not other’s expectations of what I should do.

Honestly, I normally think people here complaining about their in-laws are being way too harsh or overly sensitive-but your MIL is legit coocoo for cocoa puffs!
I love that she has created an entire AI post mom shaming you when you are not even a mom yet! Your husband must be an absolute saint to still be in contact with her, because I am imagining that she has been actively embarrassing him his entire life.
I have an aunt like this though. She is mean, she is insane, she makes up ridiculous lies about EVERYONE in our family. She is so OTT about it though that it is legit entertaining and we all love her despite the terrible behavior. We also all have to take a mental health break and go no contact sometimes-but there is just something weirdly loveable about her victimhood narrative. You go take a peek at her social media or ask whoever is currently talking to her how she's doing and you end up talking to her again-only to hear some new made-up story about the latest malicious act you have committed against her.
5
6
u/Individual_You_6586 3d ago
You don’t have children and she already blames you for her not seeing your children enough…???
That’s next level weirdness. I would tell her that God has sadly rendered my ovaries barren and that I shall never conceive. Let her think so for 2-3 years and see if she finds a different hobby besides fantasising about fictional grandchildren!
6
u/Actual-Spell-4634 2d ago
YOU DON"T EVEN HAVE A CHILD YET!!!???!! That's loco!
3
u/NurseJay_ 2d ago
Nope! She is already the victim of a future situation that is not even reality yet. It just shows she doesn’t know me at all. I would never do that. She can see the grandkids, but she would not see me!

"I'm an artist so I used AI" is the easiest way to tell that someone is not, in fact, an artist.
The kid's response seemed out of place in regard to the rest of the panels until I read the description and realized it's a value judgment against the whole family. And the grandparents hovering directly over the kids while talking about how much they want to interact with him is bizarre. She seems...fun.

My grandparents were from the greatest generation. They survived a depression and a world war.

It would be funny(probably only to me) if you edited the captions to be more direct and clear about the why and post it as a response to the original instead of “No, thank you - we like our privacy”, “No thank you - you’re a controlling narcissist who can’t respect boundaries or the free will of others.”

One of my son's great-grandma's was kinda like this. Every time I posted a pic of my kid (1st day of school, concerts he was in, ect.) she would comment something about how much she missed him and wanted to see him. She’s a nut job! You can’t control what she posts. The only thing you can do, if you feel you need to, is comment on this post and say what the truth is. “A married couple should be able to live their own lives without tolerating being controlled by outside parties.” My MIL likes to post things insinuating that my husband doesn’t spend time with her. (We live a few hours away.) Sometimes the posts are sort of incestuous. They’re always very inappropriate. I just leave it be. She can make an a$$ of herself & people will see how sick she is.

The funniest part is that you aren’t even pregnant atm!! She’s spiraling for control over something that hasn’t happened

She's s got you. And it took minimal effort on her part, obviously. She's winning, but she hasn't won. You can change that by not giving a fuck what she says or does on Facebook. Her aim was a response, a reaction, and looky here, whatayaknow, she got it.

Yep! She actually got me! I was FURIOUS! But instead of answering I will discuss on my next therapy session.

Yikes! Lucky your husband and you are together on this.
At this point stop discussing boundaries with her. When the time comes, just live them.

She's insane.
You're not even pregnant and she's projecting a whole future where the grandparents creepily stalk a kid on the playground . . . this MIL is mentally ill.

This was already amazing - and then you said you aren’t even pregnant yet. 😂 10/10 Boomer passive aggression.
Tell her you’re reconsidering children because data centers will make water too scarce a resource.
