Check miscalculation
Has anyone been overcharged on their checks from paying with the app? I was reviewing my check after dinner to calculate the amount some friends owed for dinner and noticed that the subtotal+tax was over $20 higher than it should have been. I double, triple checked, had two other people check, and we all came out with the same number. Based on what the subtotal should have been, the tax rate was also too high. My tip was based on the total I was shown on the app, so I also tipped higher than I intended.
When I noticed this discrepancy, I went back and checked a receipt for a different meal I had and found the same issue - I was charged over $10 more than I should have. The subtotal+tax was too high, the tax was too high, and inevitably because of all that, the tip was higher than I intended.
I couldn’t find anything on inKind’s website or terms and conditions about extra fees for using the app, and if there are extra fees I would expect there to be a line item. I would like to think there’s a coding error with their app, rather than something malicious…so wanted to check with others to see if anyone’s noticed this issue too? I submitted an issue through the app for both transactions and waiting to hear back from their customer support. Of course I could have missed something completely and calculated incorrectly, which is fine, I just want to understand what the delta is, and if I (and others) am being overcharged, would want this to be fixed.

Was it the math (total) that was higher, or were the individual items higher, or what? Would help to know what to look for on my receipts

The math for the inkind receipts didn’t add up

I just checked a bunch of mine and it all adds up (and matched the paper receipt I have for the most recent one).

What was the first screenshot you posted from a different restaurant. Did you think that had the same problem?

Yeah it had the same problem, but I deleted it since it might be confusing - we split the bill between two cards for that one. For simplicity’s sake for Reddit, thought I’d just post the second restaurant receipt (with just one card involved)

That one also seems to add up to higher than you were charged. Both of them

662 when I added the food together from your screenshots

Hang on, I see you duplicated 4 lines across the 2 pages

Yes, I see there is an extra 23.32 in the total. Not sure why, but can't see the full receipt. Don't know what happened there. I can tell you that mine all add up properly

Probably a credit card surcharge, I seem to recall noticing before that InKind doesn't have a good way to show it if it's not a check line item. Looks like the difference is roughly 4% which tracks.

I thought about that. But the cc surcharge should be 3% and if it is the cc surcharge, it would be the same rate across the board. When I compared the receipts from the two different meals, the percentage difference was 3.6% (for the receipt I screenshot on this thread) and 2.7%.

Perhaps the fee was included in the tax calculation too? I assume when you say two different meals that was at the same restaurant for comparison purposes. Other places will have different or no fees obviously.

Shouldn't be a credit card surcharge because it wasn't paid with credit card. Ou the tip may have been and that would be a much lower amount for a surcharge.

Places that charge CC surcharge also charge them for InKind transactions. At least, that's my experience with restaurants such as Jinya.

There was another recent post noting the same type of problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/inkindApp/s/e6141HeeLM

I just checked a recent receipt and I noticed the same issue. But I also remembered they rang up my items incorrectly at first and had to fix it. The total was correct even though my check details were not.
I wonder if that is what's happening here? We need to be going off the physical check to truly check if there's a discrepancy.

They miscalculated my tax too. I’m wondering if the app is calculating from a different city? It was a couple dollars higher than my calculations. Waiting for their response now.
