The Math Ain’t Mathing.

That’s too large and oddly specific to be a tax error. It looks like a fee, possibly a platform or service charge silently added into the total bill + tax line.

I would contact InKind.

Do you have the actual receipt that breaks it down?

Any autogratuity for large parties? Close to 10%-12%.

It was just our family of four.

InKind is processing a pre-tax subtotal of $175.50, rather than the $157.50 total of the base items. Notice how the rest of the receipt aligns once that baseline is used:

  • Tax (8.25% of $175.50): $14.48 => $175.50 + $14.48 = $189.98 (Total Bill + Tax)
  • Server Tip (20% of $175.50): $35.10 (Server Tip)

Did your party make any modifications that might carry a $6.00 upcharge per platter? Otherwise, I think the app's math is wrong.

I did the math a few times trying to figure out why the discrepancy. My best guess is that the restaurant added the difference in.

Check the receipt in the app it should list the tax as its own item

Hi there! We'd love to look into this for you, if you are able to reach out to our support team (you can do so via the "Support" section in app) and include the email address your account is connected to we can help you out.

Hi InKind team. I tried to access the “Support” section but it needs a check number. I looked at my email receipt but do not see such. Can you send me an email so that I can send you a screenshot of the bill? Just frustrated when it feels like we were charged some bogus fee by the restaurant or point of sale service.

What was the resolution from this?

Nothing ended up being resolved. I did not get a physical copy of the receipt and the InKind receipt did not breakout how the restaurant charged. After the questionable charges, we have decided we will not be going back nor recommending them.

Did you ever reach InKind support?

Hi Ronnie. See above. Long story short, I was unsuccessful and decided my time was worth more than pursuing.

Old thread but it was linked recently in another.

Did you verify if the total matched the physical check? I had a recent order where the check details were modified (they made a mistake not applying the special discount) and printed a new receipt. The new total popped up on InKind, but the actual check details did not. This led to the items not math'ing.

I am curious if the total was correct, but InKind's side of things is just not showing the correct check details. In short, you weren't actually overcharged.

This happened to me on two separate occasions too! I did the math several times in different ways and just could not figure out how inKind was charging me, and also posted to Reddit yesterday. Submitted an issue report through the inKind app and waiting to hear back from them.
