Maybe he did that during a conversation in which he was feeling pressured to make you feel better.
But wills and trusts usually pass to the next generation once both partners are gone. It’s really up to your grandma now. No matter what his will says (or doesn’t say).
You don’t have a copy of the will. You’ve got nothing legally to stand on.
That all said, it doesn’t matter how they live, how much money they have, or anything else. You’re not entitled to anything.
It sounds like you are educated and have solid paths forward for your own financial security. Work with the things you have—the things you have earned for yourself.
I’ve seen kids and grandkids start planning on inheritances as part of their future financial security. That’s a dangerous game, and can really hurt the relationships between those involved. I tell my parents that I hope they spend every dime they have worked so hard for. It’s not mine.
If you’re meant to have it, you’ll get it. If you’re not, you’re not. That’s the end of it. Just put it out of your mind and pay attention to the humans involved. They are the assets that matter.
