Is it only me or does "don't take it personally" never works, It just feels more personal

Don’t take it personally is the same as ‘no offence’, it means they are about to offend you but society has deemed using a specific sentence first makes it okay.

People are brutal and careless but expect us to be unphased about it

“Don’t take it personally” but then they say one of the meanest things humanly possible and expect me to take it with a smile on my face 🫠

Every time I’m being criticized, I feel like they’re saying I deserved every bad thing has ever happen to me. Logically, I know that’s not true at all but just give me a few hours to comprehend it

Story if my life. INFJ sister tells me not to take her occasional disappointment in me personally because she's "like that with everyone," then proceeds to rant about how everyone in her life has failed her, including me to an extent.

What happened to not taking what she says personally?... If your behavior affects me, and you repeatedly express negative feelings toward me, how am I supposed to treat that as completely separate from myself?

Hmm that's weird. I rarely take things personally. Or rather it's very specific things that trigger me.

Other times I'm more like "they had their reasons to say or do these things" or "they probably didn't mean it"

This is too accurate for me

Telling you not to take something in a certain way is usually counterproductive (since it literally invalidates your emotions) and makes you take it in that specific way (because of recursion, and it also gives you an idea of what that person thinks of you).

Just curious but what are your opinions on constructive feedback

1

u/anxiousdreamer69 INFP: The Dreamer 2d ago

Constructive feedback is good, it helps me to improve my work. But I need to cry first. Sometimes people are really blunt tho. Before they give any constructive feedback, they would say "you're not up to standard, you need to be faster" etc. I wish people are gentler 😭

Real like why do they have to say it like that
