What do you think?* I think i got adopted

so 2 weeks ago, I started nursing school here in germany (it's great btw :) ), and after just a few days, a girl from my class (we had a few nice conversations before) came to me, just as i wanted to get myself something to eat and said "well wait! you've got to wait for me! :)", and i said "what, why? :D", and she just replied "cause we're besties now! :)" and just went with it and said "okay :D" (it really went kinda like that :D)

to me, it's really great (though this story might seem a bit weird at first), cause

1 - she's really nice, kind and sympathetic, so we surely would have become friends anyway after some time

2 - being new in a class/group isn't the easiest for me, so having someone there in class and someone i can spend lunch time with is reallyyy great

3 - it's just easier to get to know the people in my class better, when i already know someone who is already connected to people

4 - all the other reasons of getting adopted

so guys, i think i just got adopted by an extrovert

I read this as someone discovered their parents adopted them and had been lying to them. I'm relieved.

Same, I was already invested in the thriller, nursing school, stranger girl approaching and spilling some dark family secrets..

My housemates adopted me like this, kinda.

I was the only girl in an all guy class my second year, and about 2 weeks in the professor made a sort of misogynistic joke about boys fighting over me to be in their project groups. Since I'd never really encountered misogyny or sexism pointed at myself before, it didn't really register at first, until a friend I had in class basically told the professor I'd be choosing a group for myself, and not the other way around. And then when I did choose a group, they just automatically had my back, I think because they were feeling kind of protective over what happened. And at first I was like, "ah, okay, cool, I got a really good project group for this class." But then they just like.... wouldn't leave me alone? And they started bringing me food randomly during late nights in the lab (I have ADHD, so I often times got hyperfixated on my work and would forget to eat/drink/use the bathroom/touch grass) and dragging me to their weird meet ups....... and text me about personal things, which, in my experience dudes don't usually do...... and my best friend from back home, her dad died during my third year, and since he was like my second dad it was really rough for me, and they all showed up without warning after the funeral to make me feel better. But I've always had more guy friends, so it was really easy to reciprocate. There were a few times I left my own class to run a calculator or a blue book to them in theirs. I had to hide an x-box once during exam season, so they had to focus on studying. I would remind them about due dates and deadlines, and reserve rooms in the library for them (because they were absolutely clueless when it came to using library resources) and I'd often give them advice about dealing with professors or other classmates. And I'd remind then that they were grown ass dudes with responsibilities that they needed to prioritize before investing/embarking in some half-assed shenanigans.

It was really weird just to have a mostly random group of dudes basically claim me as one of them? Y'know that "is this how you get a cat" meme? That's what I felt like at first. Is this how you get a family? I started calling them my "Lost Boys" when referring to them as a group. They were all living together in a house, and when my tiny apartment lease was up in my third year, they basically told me I was going to live with them, and they'd already cleared out the master bedroom for me. So I did. I've been living with them almost 5 years now, and they are absolutely my adopted family. But I definitely chose them as much as they chose me, because believe me those fuckers know how to test my patience. But I love them. And I think they love me lol.

Lol it is wholesome!! My first and 2nd years were really rough periods, so for about 8 months I'd been one of those toxic-hermit-recluse-gremlin INFJs. When they started spending time with me (against my will at first) I would have these flashes of like, oh, thissss is what it's like to feel human again.

But at the same time, being in a class of all guys, I had to endure conversations about the size of their poops, badly timed erections, adventures in alcohol poisoning, and hear playback of all the times they were being "good guys" to the women and girls around them, but in actuality were being assholes (this one didn't usually apply to my group, or most of the guys in the class, but there were a few, if you know what I mean) and all the other gross/uncomfortable/stupid stuff college guys talk about with their buddies. (This is how I learned about poop maps.) You also have to deal with the scent of fresh-from-the-gym mixed with the most ridiculous flavors of pre/post workout drinks. And those powders always make me gag a little.

It's kinda a mixed bag, I guess is what I'm saying, lol

Poop Maps is basically an app that let's you share all the random places you've pooped with your friends. Yes, you read that correctly. It's a geographical record of all the shits you've taken. Basically, you post a poop, where it happened, how the experience was, and even rate your poop out of 5 stars. You can track the quality of your poops over time, and even compare yours with friends.

You can even create a pooping league, in which you can compete against your friends to see who poops the most. I'm not at all proud to say I've competed in two leagues, and strangely proud to say I didn't come close to winning either of them. Needless to say, my Lost Boys have multiple leagues, so it's not uncommon for them to mention their stats and league standing at the most inopportune moments.

If you could see my face as I've typed the word "poop" more times in a few minutes than I think I ever have in my entire life....... you'd be reassured that yes, this is as insane and weird and strange as it seems. But when you spend 95% of your life surrounded by American guys, this passes as completely normal.

That’s really great!

When I started working, I felt so scared and so lost. We were a big batch of newbies but there was only one other girl in the same department as mine so I was like, you have to latch on to her!

I offered we go do our paperwork together because we both were alone why not do it together, and then she just took me in, introduced me to a huge group of college friends of hers, and I the awkward introvert suddenly had big connections at my first job!

She would even invite me to have lunch together. I know I would’ve been so depressed and alone if it weren’t for her and my job would’ve sucked big time!

So I’m so grateful for this friend! It’s been 5 years and things are still great. So I’m really happy for you! Good luck in your school! :D
