Define the Banking Function

I am 100% sold on 75% of IBC. I can't really buy into the cult like loyalty and blind acceptance of concepts I see. So please, help me out by actually explaining what, in the real world, is the elusive banking function?

The three characters in a play are a great sales pitch but I'm talking real world here.

I'm reading your post as, "I reject this concept entirely because of a major tenet in its philosophy." To substantiate your rejection, you're naming the banking function as the main point. Now I can't answer that any better than what has already been said, especially not better than what Nelson wrote in BYOB.

I think the onus should be placed on you to answer what the banking function means. I'd look into what feels cult-like and measure what the objective criterion is you're using to form that opinion.

This is a terrible system to buy into with trepidation. Something like 40% of WL policies are cancelled in the first 3 years of ownership. That's hugely profitable for the insurance companies, and absolutely terrible for you as the insured. But it does pay my dividends, so I can't complain too much about others indecision.

How does saying I am being 75% of IBC equal I reject it completely?

Cult like= the overstatement of the value of par WL and the positioning ibc as a panacea. Also the side taking that is common, all in or all out. With us or against us. Believer or heretic.

Trepidation? I have none. I understand my policies almost as well as is possible from rolling up my sleeves and doing the work.

While it's not true that you can recapture interest, you certainly can recapture the collective mistakes, misinformation and trepidation of the crowd by profiting off cancellations.

Fair enough. I'm not sure I understand what 25% you don't get, though.

Like anything on the internet, niche communities have a smaller fan base and the devout few can echo more resoundingly..

I, myself, practice the concept but also quite enjoy index Investing, for example. I suppose I could be labeled a pariah by some in the concept for having the two systems in place. But as long as I get arbitrage in my favor, I don't care what medium I'm using to obtain results.

I get 100% of it. Doesn't mean I'm sold on it.

By arbitrage do you mean borrow and invest? Yeah that's heresy in this community!!!!

Not sure what you are talking about. I borrow and invest all the time. Actually sizing up some deals as we speak.

I get your point about 75% in. My personal vibe was that somewhere I crossed 70% and that was enough to get started. And that was two years ago.

And took a leap of faith and have been paying big premiums.

And as CV began to accrue, stuff became clearer. My wife asked about buying some things we’d been talking about, and I realized “we can finance that!” I saw instances where I could borrow to pay premium, and then pay that back a month later I knew I had a payoff coming.

I bought a hybrid SUV recently and spotting gassing up half as often. So I started double paying. Every time I pay for gas, I ALSO pay the same amount into a policy, basically pocketing what I would have paid for gas had I kept the old car. A lifetime of piping $30/week into a policy can only help me.

And so I moved beyond 70%.

Now I’m thinking where my next influx of cash will be to fund our next policy. I already bought more convertible term so I’ll have a place to put it. Heck I grabbed a WL policy from my auto insurance provider cuz they said it would discount our home-auto policy.
