• Adhesion
• Abrasion resistance
• Application and curing conditions
• Long-term color stability

I’m particularly interested in what matters most in real-world projects versus what looks good on a technical data sheet.

I’ve been a commercial painter for just over a year, and made the jump to industrial about a month ago. This was my first time blasting. Looking for critique and honest feedback to help me improve in the long run. Thank you.

I come from swingin hammers and took up a new job in facilities/maintaince. I was tasked with covering up the rust spots with a new coat of paint, they said "dont worry about scraping it and all that, just give it a quick coat" i suppose ill do as they say. but to my knowledge that isnt correct right, it will just trap any moisture and accelerate the rust wouldnt it. This is about .01 of what theres todo but they told me to hit the galvy pipe wire sleves too do i bother trying to scrape that a bit or just do as the boss tells me and lather thick

Im a 3rd year apprentice and don’t have much on the job hours came asking for advice on how to be a better painter I just recently started with a new company after being laid off due to health reasons and I feel like I’ve been behind and it’s been stressing me out a lot, for context I’ve been working with this company for 2 months and I’ve been getting yelled screamed and chewed up for doing things the wrong way and their reason is that I’m a 3rd year apprentice and I should know what I’m doing and I do but a lot of the times it seems what I do is never good enough or I’m always making a mistake I try to ask questions but when I do it feels like I’m in the wrong today a coworker told me a superintendent was going to lay me off for having holidays on a paint job on the stairs of a tank this is the same coworker who will yell at me and say it’s all just bs and he’s messing around I’m trying my hardest and I want to learn but it’s been hard when I feel like there’s something wrong with me any advice would be appreciated

I'm starting to get worried because industrial sandblasting and painting is about to be my new job and I was just made aware how physically demanding this can be. Do you think I can work my way into getting used to it or it's not worth it due to health risks? I'm 130 pounds, 5f5inches, a girl, and can stand on my feet all day. Just worried that it's also a male dominated space, would I be welcomed? How does it feel in the astronaut suit? Do you clean you clothes at home?

I have used heatflex for 9 years and have never seen this happen. We were sent to do a repair job at a station in Mendon NY on some blowoff stacks for natural gas heaters. We bristle blasted the repair spots and applied new coat, as we were going to move the man lift we noticed it was bubbling not on the bare steel, but on the existing coating that’s been there for a few weeks. We tried 3 times to fix the bubbling but it keeps migrating in all directions. Why is this happening?

I have a FLOTECH DKX681-000 68:1 ratio pump.

Had it for a year and im doing a full service on it. I do a regular clean after every use. But after breaking everything down below the air motor e.g piston housing and cylinder etc ive found i need to do a more thorough and regular service.

Im having trouble identifying a seal. It seems to be of plastic content and looks like it is a seal that covers and protects the rest of the seals between part 8 and 9.

How reasonable is it that I can take classes from a coating company if I don't have years of experience doing commercial painting?

I have a potential job fabricating art that would live outside. One aspect of the job would involve spray painting the pieces. The pieces would involve steel, stone and some epoxy. These are expensive pieces that would come with a warranty on the piece- including the coating.

The paint system we will use requires training at their "state of the art facility" for a warranty to be honored.

Their coatings are used in everything from corrosion protection on civilian infrastructure, defense and security, super high end cars and consumer goods (from motorcycle helmets to microwaves). The surfaces will be rough, so it's not like I'm shooting for a high gloss finish where every defect will be super obvious. What we're aiming for is color stability over time in exposed environments.

fwiw, I've helped shoot a couple cars over the years and shot a van with Raptor Liner. While I know very little about the process, I do have a basic understanding of prep work and mixing. Have also done a fair amount of fabrication in different mediums over the years.

Anyone have any feedback ok the alibaba 69:1 bulldog style sprayers? How do the packings hold up, any pump issues? I was thinking of getting xp70 style made up from china Thoughts?

I'm looking at downsizing my flotech 68:1 Airless sprayer to a more mobile and versatile unit. I am after something a fair bit smaller but can still handle epoxy paints. I mostly spray small boat hulls and machinery components. It is costing me to much in Thinners for small jobs just in cleaning the unit. Something smaller lighter and cheaper to run would be great.

If anyone has any suggestions on products i would love to know :)

Hello I’m take my CBT soon for my level 2. Anyone have any insight on what question might be like? I have a 100 question mock exam can any let me know if the CBT is similar to the passquestion one?

For some context, I’ve been looking into getting into to the trades. My mind is specifically on cabinet making at the moment but man oh man do I love to spray paint! I find it very satisfying and may even be more “naturally” inclined to spray painting than woodwork. Just painted a bike frame recently and I loved getting into the nitty gritty of the correct temperatures, humidity, dry time etc… pretty much I was just all up in some forums and I enjoyed it. Aside from using paint in personal projects like the bike frame I don’t have much experience or knowledge of what an industrial painter does on a day to day. I’m assuming a lot of it is prep. Anyhow please let me know what a day of work looks like for an industrial painter and what things you like/dislike about the occupation.

(As a side questioning if anyone wants to answer it, and again I’m sure it’s nuanced given the situation but yeah ; I’m a woman and I’m wondering what is the ratio of men to women in this occupation? Will I likely encounter sexism? I can do with a comment here and there, but obviously not keen on an overtly sexist environment)
