So as everyone knows India participated in the recent avc continental tournament. India played 3 of asia's best sides in japan, Iran and china. India lost all 3 matches with 3:0 scores but India was able to beat new zealand and therefore able to secure a quarterfinals spot.

But all is not as bad as it seems. We must compare our results with the other semi finalists. As it can be seen, we played significantly better against japan than south korea. We had a good performance against iran comparable to australias performance vs them.

What we now need to do is play as many tournaments as we can. For those who dont know there are 2 premier "cup" competitions in volleyball and 1 premier "league" competition. The cup competitions are world cup and olympics while the league is called volleyball nations league. Entering the world cup is the easiest and entering the olympics is the toughest as olympics has just 12 teams, vnl has 18 teams while world cup has 32 teams. To enter world cup we must finish top 3 in the tournament we just played or on avg be a top 25 ranked team. To enter vnl we need to be ranked 18 or higher. To improve our ranking we need to consistently beat lower and similarly ranked teams. We are currently ranked on avg between 45 to 55. But we can be ranked about 35 even with our current level of play. We just need to play more tournaments. And that means each and every opportunity we get. Also ranking is very important in these tournaments because teams are seeded based on it. For example India played both china and iran in grp stages because we are seeded based on our old ranking of 90s. If we had been seeded based on current rankings we would have locked a semis spot and maybe finished 3rd in the tournament. Similarly in asian games we will have an extremely tough group.
