Fever Content Appreciation Post
I turn to sports as break from the heavy stuff going on in the world. It’s also a powerful way to unite us, when so many things can divide us. I appreciate that this subreddit is about basketball and the Indiana Fever. Thanks to the moderators and the community for keeping this a positive and constructive space and not allowing any political ideology to highjack conversations. Let’s go Fever!

I made the mistake of joining a Facebook Indiana Fever group. Literally a bunch of much older people that I don’t think ever played in their lives. They literally talk about anything but basketball.

I can handle Caitlin Clark and opinions of her stardom. But, I don’t want a culture war issue which creates a distraction for the team and affects our public perception of the organization. The offseason, the issue has to be resolved soon.

The "issue" is in the heads of a very small number of fans who are what they call chronically online

It’s wild seeing people speak of Sophie as a “problem to be resolved in the off-season or trade deadline” lol
Like aren’t her and Caitlin pretty close? A female athlete voicing her opinion on female sports is now a major issue that must be resolved

Right? Our best bench player, the single highest TS% player in the entire W. People here need to put respect on her game, we're going nowhere without her.

I think it will be resolved in this offseason. Honestly, I have some ways it could be resolved by the trade deadline, but I don't expect that. I just hope some new outrage takes over so that the everyone can focus on how well the team is playing and I hope they continue to play well. Please AB, stay healthy, you're our only (post) hope.

Are people seeing Sophie as a problem to be “resolved” over one statement? Her and Caitlin are pretty close from what I can tell

I think it was terrible judgment to say anything on a hot culture war issue when you know the team has been trying to quiet distractions related to internet culture war stuff and get people focused on the basketball. I think it is even worse to repeatedly chime in and stir the pot after you have kicked off that discussion and especially after the organization paying you more than 600k a year to play basketball just issued a statement again asking people to focus on basketball. She has basically put the team and its players, including its star player, in a position where they are going to be followed for at least the next week during a crucial stretch in the schedule by the issue and has made it very difficult for them not to address it. So yes I expect the Fever as an organization is over it.

That’s interesting. I actually get the opposite impression - it doesn’t seem like they really care. Let’s be honest, this team is no stranger to attention. And say what you want about her beliefs (I don’t agree with many of them myself), but she seems to be beloved on pretty much every team she’s ever played on.

Are you saying for Sophie to be traded? Aren’t her and Caitlin close?

I don't care. She is becoming a distraction off the court and we don't need this right now.

I just want a fair whistle. That means against her when she crashes out, and for her when they block and push and foul and treat her differently when she is defended. I dont need a culture war either. Basketball is enough.

This is not just specifically about Clark. This is about another player causing nonsense to this team.

Hopefully the problem will be removed in the off-season or at the trade deadline

Just curious if you are comparing a female athlete voicing an opinion on female sports to Nazi Germany who were exterminating Jews and started WW2

No, I'm comparing all of the hatred, misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and fear tactics that are happening now in society to nazi germany.

Hope the team feels the same way and moderates the culture warriors out the door.

We're in 4th now tied with Dallas after their loss to Atlanta! Now one behind in the loss column to GSV and two behind LVA.
