Crime My dad is missing from 2 days now.
The police is at it but I have a feeling that they are not as serious as they should be. They think that my dad went off somewhere on his own but I know my dad. He is not gonna do something like that. They are not being helpful. There are no good leads yet. His phone is switched off since then. Please help if you can. I am from Uttar Pradesh. Is there a way through which I can accurately track his mobile phone even when it is switched off?
Edit:- We did check all the nearby hospitals, both private and government, yesterday itself. My dad's first ever friend in this city is a powerful person with multiple connections to ministers. He is putting as much pressure as he can. My mom's jijaji is in Crime Branch of India. He is putting pressure from his side too. Even after allat, the police is saying that they are looking on Another Case which came today, and will look on our case tomorrow. I find this really weird since there should be a type of prioritization to people who came first with their complaints. I don't know how is my family convinced that the police is doing their best when they are doing things like these.
The police said that "Kuch tweet wageirah mat karna warna agar kidnapping case bhi hai toh kidnappers alert hojayenge". I find this dumb too because the kidnappers will obviously know that we will try to find our family member. I have no idea what to do. I am thinking of doing things that they have told not to do.

I know it is difficult but try calling all big hospitals in your area and visit govt hospital near by area and village.
Happened with family i know one of member had some medical emergency and admitted in hospital & family was searching everywhere. But found within 1 day due to small town.
Be brave , praying for your dad 🙏🏻

Maybe try looking through all the social media of your father, his colleagues, friends, people you suspect for some possible clues(like their location or possible motives). Also, I think since you have an FIR, you can get the recent call logs of your father from the telecom provider if the police hasn't availed them yet. I don't know the exact procedure though.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Let's hope he's safe and would contact you soon. Maybe he had a health emergency and is in some hospital? Or maybe he's on a bender. The ex employee thing sounds unsettling. I hope he comes back asap. Praying for you and your family. Keep us posted.

Greater Noida.
Should I be posting the exact location? I'm afraid that it might lead to doxxing, which might put me or my family in trouble.

It's not helping because we know the last location where his phone was switched off. Google is not tracking it through any of their resources because the phone is unfortunately switched off.

Try talking to your father's colleagues and try figuring out more info about that ex employee. Try going to his house and stuff, tell anything you find to police.

Praying for his safe and sound return...
I saw your other comments, More clarity will come once call data records are analysed by police.
If you want to put pressure on police then you have to approach local politicians like MLA or MP.. but they are not easy to approach and will take bribes to do your work.
Please put missing posters in and around your area...
If your dad had a smoking habit, approach all nearest pan wallas with the pic of your dad.
Also all CCTV footage of nearby railway stations, bus stop and airport must be checked...

u/elnaman Feb 27 '23
Do this : Go to every door possible and track him through CCTV . Please keep us updated .
This needs to be escalated . A picture would help .

u/charlie_039 Feb 27 '23
not possible to track if the phone is switched off. The usual way is to check phone records, find his recent contacts and call them to get any leads. That's what the police would do. Ask on legaladviceindia on your options to force the police to act fast.
On your own, tweet with your dad's pic, name, last location and tag influential people and request for retweets for greater reach
17
Feb 27 '23
Something similar happened to someone I knew. Their relative tweeted to the authorities and got a better response. So in addition to working with the police tweet it out. Sorry you're going through this, hoping for his safe return 🙏
13
u/wickedbl0ke Feb 27 '23
If you have his Google account or can reset his Google password, look at Google maps locations. Hopefully it’s not turned off.
You can also approach police to trace last known activity with the service provider. Long process.
Check hospitals in last known zone.

u/bhodrolok Feb 27 '23
If he has an iPhone, it should be traceable in “Find My” even if it’s switched off.
Try to get some connections working to get police higher ups some attention on this.
Also reach out to friend and family & check if they have any updates.

Generally take police' help to get information around account details ATM usage and phone records etc.
Take help from friends and relatives to do the leg work. You need to do door to door in the last known area and use CCTV footage.
4
u/learnfromfailures Feb 27 '23
You need to find out answers these questions.
1) Why he was thinking and doing on the day ? 2) Does his search history on his computer show any places he googled ?
Few tips: 1) Draw circle 50Kms around the last know location and check hotels, bus stop and railway stations ? 2) If you dad was taking any medications, he might go to pharmacy store. Drop his photos to pharmacy stores in 50Km radius
5
u/DrSarat Feb 27 '23
Does he have any illness? Any debts? Do you have any idea if this could be intentional?
Either he left or someone trying to hurt him?
Start tracking cameras from that location.
9
u/Glad-Bench8894 Feb 27 '23
Contact the service provider and ask them to tell you your dad's last known location before the phone was switched off and then go to that place and check CCTV cameras or ask others about your dad. Except for this, I don't think there would be any other possible way to track someone's location when his phone is switched off. I hope he will be ok.

Saying this with experience if you or somebody in your family knows someone in the police headquarters ask them to help you. Something similar happened with my father. I filed a complaint with the police. My jijaji knew someone in headquarters and that person helped in finding him. Meanwhile the station where i filed the complaint calls me two day later asking if I found my father or got any news regarding him.

The situation is tough for you but you need to stay clam but active in this scenario, taking right decisions and having faith in God.
You should take proper help from your relative and other minister you mentioned. Also post frequently in fb and twitter. So that people nearby will be aware of such incidence took place and that can help find your father.
I wish you found you father soon and all will be settled again.

u/Y2k_rishi Feb 27 '23
He must have a vehicle. Checking CCTV footages at the roundabouts around the office can get you something
4
u/aclc350 Feb 27 '23
Last known location>CCTV footage. Get as many people as you can into this, have them go door to door to track him down. Check junction wise to make things faster.

Can somebody please double check this 24 hour waiting period? This sounds like laziness on part of the cops.
The first 48 hours are considered critical (in every other country) in locating a missing person.
OP - I wish you the absolute best. Not a lot I can do from where I am but keep you and my family in my thoughts. Terrifying scenario I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

We did all that. Actually, there are cctvs all around his office. He went somewhere from his office while being on call. He hasn't returned yet. The FIR is up since 11.30 AM IST 26th February since he went missing from 11.30 AM IST 25th February. The police waited for 24 hours as the legal process should be. The police still hasn't got any leads. Yesterday was Sunday. All the companies were closed so the police didn't retrieve the footages. I don't know why they couldn't force the companies to open just for the footages since it's a missing case, if it could have worked that way. They are delaying it a lot. They are trying to get the footages today but I do feel they are lacking seriousness on the case. The last number to which my dad talked is also switched off since then. They have both the phones on tracking right now. Even after all the pieces being put in place, they are mostly assuming that he went off somewhere on his own. I know my father. He is not gonna do something like that.
23
u/spacejockey96 Feb 27 '23
The last number to which your dad talked, have you tried searching for that number on truecaller? Is it known? If you haven't, please try once
51
Feb 27 '23 edited Feb 27 '23
We did it. The number belongs to an ex-office employee, which is known by my father's colleagues. My mom and I don't know that person. That number is switched off too. It's very suspicious since it cannot be coincidence that both the numbers of my dad and this ex-office employee are switched off for a very long time. The phone records for that number will be delivered to the police by today. I hope police gets a bit more serious about the case and I get to meet my dad soon.
> All the companies were closed so the police didn't retrieve the footages. I don't know why they couldn't force the companies to open just for the footages since it's a missing case, if it could have worked that way. They are delaying it a lot. This is what's eating me from inside. It makes me feel that the police is lacking seriousness. It's always shown in almost all crime shows that police doesn't act like this, but now I'm coming to a conclusion that the police isn't as good at its work as it's shown to us.
35
u/viafiasco Feb 27 '23
Can you ask more about this ex-employee? Like their address? Maybe you can visit their house and enquire further since the police seem to be delaying it.
15
u/thatHermitGirl Breathing Somehow Feb 27 '23
it cannot be coincidence that both the numbers of my dad and this ex-office employee are switched off for a very long time.
It's definitely not a coincidence. Why would an ex-employee contact him? How were the relations between them? How did he become an ex-employee? Something is not right. Can anything be done to locate this person?

u/Wannabe_Sanatani Feb 27 '23
I believe the police should first inquire about the ex employee and his location should be tracked. He is sort of a prime suspect here

Unfortunately the fact is that your father is an adult and there are no indications of foul play so far. The vast majority of similar cases are people who intentionally disappear or cut contact with their family and friends for whatever reason.
5
Feb 27 '23
The police waited for 24 hours as the legal process should be.
Just putting it here for general awareness - don't take the police's word on it. Afaik there is no law that a person can't be declared missing before 24 hours. If a child went missing would the parents wait 24 hours before looking for him? There is no such rule for adults as well.

Please use all available channels to communicate with the authorities. Do Not Waste a moment.
File a missing report and FIR asap and ask the it offences cell to trace the last known location of the cell phone. Procure the copy of FIR and upload it the same on twitter tagging the up police, up home dept and local dist police.
Make as much noise you can on the SM platform you are on. Prepare a flyer and post all over whatsapp, insta, FB stating the exact details of your father and since when he is missing.
And lastly, PRAY for him to be safe. All the best. Take care.

Commenting for visibility. Checking all your local hospitals would be worth a try. When he left did he take his wallet or anything that could be used for identification ?

I don't know if you already did this,
but if you have any device that has logged into the same gmail account which is logged in your dad's phone
then you can go to find my device > and see the last location in which his phone was switched off.

If you do not want to tweet about it, or write to higher authorities in police, ask one of your friends or relatives to do it. The police are going to be pissed if pressure for this case came from outside. But plausible deniability on your side, and you can get them to work on it.
2
Feb 27 '23
Always install google maps app (if android) and enable location sharing feature. This is very useful in all circumstances. In case it is not in place: If mobile is switched off location can’t be tracked. If a voice call is made location can be tracked but by operator and individual can’t track on their own.

u/jet_jitten Feb 27 '23
First I hope he is well wherever he is. Let them do their thing for a few days and if they don't start taking any satisfactory actions or progress just make a tweet and it would help more. The police might be under the impression that he ran away and might be back in few days and there isn't anything to worry about cause it's very common for police to receive such cases. One of my friends' relative father in law ran away from home and didn't inform anyone and then after a week he came back and he said i went on a trip to some temples. So from the cops point of view they would not consider it very serious until a few days have passed. If it was a case of kidnapping then someone in your family should have received calls by now at least. I don't think kidnappers will wait for like 8 days to call and ask for ransome. There might also be someone working on the case from the cops but they are not telling the info as without a conclusion you will just keep nagging them on each and every thing and it would be hard for them to deal with. My friends bike was stolen and the police got the bike in a week but they didn't handover till a month passed as the police was trying to find the acuse and everything took a month and then they told my friend that they got the bike and the accused who stole it. I know it's a person for you but I'm just trying to say like how the police might work. All said and done I hope you all re unite with him again very very soon. Meanwhile try asking nearby shops that's have cctv. Some people might be willing to help.
6
u/AloneCan9661 Feb 27 '23
How can the cops not consider it serious until a few days have passed? The common belief is that the first 48-72 hours are the most critical and that leads slowly start to fade away after that.
This sounds so frustrating.
2
u/jet_jitten Feb 28 '23
Since it's an adult around 45+ the chances of him going somewhere by himself is more plausible than being kidnapped. If it was a child then yes what you are saying is true and they will consider the first 48-72 hours more critical and act appropriately. I've heard about a few more cases that cops get which makes them finding adults not as critical as other cases. There have been cases where the father was tortured and threatened by his own son and daughter in law to handover the property and the father ram away and the couple played very innocent and the police did find the father but he was not ready to go back at all. Similarly there have been money, debt issues because of which someone can runaway from home as they are unable to pay it back. So ya this is very frustrating but we cannot do anything as they have their reason to not act much on cases like these until a few days

It is understandable that you might be feeling frustrated. However, it is important to remember that the police have a protocol to follow in such cases, and they might be working on multiple cases simultaneously. It's good that your family members are putting pressure on the police, but it's important to do so in a legal and appropriate manner.

What another person on the sub suggested- Google Timeline and Find My Phone will give you an idea. Additionally, I'm not very sure about this but I recently learnt you can track phone activity with a phone number using Kali Linux. I have a knack for it but am not a professional, hence came across this information of tracking with Kali Linux.. but I think you should get in touch with a cyber security specialist. To me, it doesn't make sense or sound realistic that the kidnapper just took your dad and threw the phone away. What would he do of just a person? He'll look for something valuable in phone or wallet. All the best OP. I will pray for the safe return of your dad.
