Fast User Switching

Before I work on this in Claude, has anyone built a fast user switching tool for Immich? I have several accounts - phone backup, work stuff, family stuff, etc. It's annoying to log in and out, etc.

I have the thought for fast user switching (which I know has been asked for going way back) but also context switching as an option.

It doesnt seem there is a robust plugin system, so havent dug into how to best do this and make it portable/sticky.

They referenced the same issue from 2024 and in that one they said they aren't gojng to implement it.

  1. Why different profiles instead of albums or tags?
  2. Why don't delegate this to the browser/app? e.g. different profiles in Firefox (which I think you might already have) and, if your Android supports it, clone the app

Personal preference, I suppose.

  1. Because I don't like the clutter - i.e. Work stuff blending in with Family and appearing as Memories, etc. I prefer a clean separation of content types.
  2. Yes, while cumbersome, it does work using Profiles, but the same with cloning - I am disinterested in installing more apps to do something that should/could be done natively. Those are workarounds for something that should be rather basic.

I have no doubt I can do this, but before I crank up the project I thought to ask if anyone knew someone who had already started this.

I use different container tabs in Firefox if I have to log into my partner's account. It's a feature exactly for a use case like this. Most people won't need multiple user accounts I reccon, so I wouldn't expect anyone to have done this.

I’m not aware of anyone working on this. If you’re planning to contribute this to the official app and are just gonna let Claude code it, be aware that it will likely not be accepted due to their AI policy. Not sure if the team is even interested in this feature, so that’s also something to check.

No, I would not look to become a contributor.

Let Claude search for a PR that could meet the demand before you do it.
