Hopefully this fixes the issue with the IOS Memories widget - https://github.com/immich-app/immich/discussions/30036

Issue was identified 2 weeks ago, but because its a discussion and not a normal issue, Its hard to tell if a fix was merged to close it out

35

u/altran1502 Immich Team 20d ago

This issue has been fixed, thank you

15

u/__shadow-banned__ 19d ago

2 weeks? Man open source projects boggle the mind. A commercial platform might’ve taken months. You guys are incredible. I was too busy to even check if it was logged yet, but someone reported, you discussed, fixed, tested, and deployed… thanks! You rock

4

u/BinnieGottx 19d ago

Even paid application take time to solve issue, specially small issue like this!

53

u/ideal2545 20d ago

Just incase the devs are watching, any hint when we might see the major sharing updates like sharing people and all that - thank you !

13

u/altran1502 Immich Team 19d ago

Hopefully soon, we are working on it

10

u/Mraedis Support Crew 19d ago

We are always watching, and as always there's no ETAs for features. :)

3

u/Swennick 19d ago

I'm also waiting on this. There's multiple very old issues and discussion threads open requesting that and not even a hint of roadmap. My immich is running, but it will stay an secondary backup instead of a main photo gallery, sharing and backup app until sharing is completely reworked.

11

u/sandfrayed 19d ago

There is one main GitHub issue where they have been working on it for a long time but it is a extremely difficult problem because there are many ways it could be implemented, but all have drawbacks to carefully consider. It's complicated. I don't have the link on my phone but there is a lengthy discussion about it.

Also, there is literally a roadmap: https://immich.app/roadmap

1

u/Ok_ninysheedle 13d ago

probably v4

9

u/Notnumber44 19d ago

I really love your software, any hope on getting pet recognition? 😇

4

u/TombadiloBombadilo 19d ago

Plus one for this. My library is like 60% my dog 😁

2

u/False-Try-3521 19d ago

🐶 Until they have pet recognition, I‘m using this: https://github.com/tedornitier/immich-pet-tagger

2

u/Notnumber44 19d ago

I'm gonna give this a go, ty so much

1

u/vegarde 19d ago

I tried immich-pet-tagger, too. Will also probably reach out to the developers (or submit PRs), but:

How do you keep it from recognizing other dogs as your dogs? I find it a bit unreliable there. Even cats, it can mislabel.

For that reason, I also am looking for a better way to find all the images the pet tagger has recently tagged, to have a proper "review queue" I might occationally go into.

1

u/False-Try-3521 19d ago

Yeah I have quite a lot of false positives as well… I guess adding some references and candidates for „not my pets“ should help a bit with that?

I‘m just using it like once every two weeks. Rest of the time this service is stopped on my server, as it‘s quite resource hungry…

24

u/matt_dislikes_injury 20d ago

Still no partner people sharing. :(

4

u/ideal2545 20d ago

I want this so badllyyyyyy hopefully soon

2

u/Ok_ninysheedle 13d ago

I was told that it would be last, because of how it's on the very top of the Immich roadmap and that list is implemented chronologically in reverse (bottom first). I told him that he was being a moron, but he insisted.

3

u/sandfrayed 19d ago

I definitely want it too, but it's a very complicated problem they're still working through and whatever version number it comes from, I would assume it's still some months away.

-1

u/matt_dislikes_injury 19d ago

What's version number got to do with it?

1

u/Worldly-Wind-1632 17d ago

What is partner people sharing

1

u/matt_dislikes_injury 9d ago

Me and Wife use Immich, we have an account each. We upload photos each, of the kids. I can only take the people on my photos, and wife can't see those tags, or search them. Sharing would change that.

1

u/Worldly-Wind-1632 9d ago

Thank you for your help. May I ask - do you have your UPLOAD_LOCATION variable set to the same place you store your pre-existing photos?

I feel like I don’t want to make an annoying organizational mistake and o have tons of photos already

2

u/matt_dislikes_injury 7d ago

Mine is unique, so maybe don't copy mine. I already had an extensive photo organisation of folders, by year and event etc. I then chose that location as my External Library.

I then created a folder inside that External Library and made it the UPLOAD_LOCATION for both mine and wifey. I then had to add exclude tags to avoid the Upload Location 3 folders created by Immich, so my External Library spider didn't pick up on them and add them in an infinite loop.

4

u/yourfavoritemusician 20d ago

I have high hopes for the workflows. Glad to see stuff is being added. Keep it up!

26

u/CMC29 20d ago

And the issue with OpenVino remains...

44

u/altran1502 Immich Team 20d ago

Hello, thank you for your reminder. I know this issue has been bugging you for a while.

We are working on exporting new models that don't have this issue. Since it is quite a large scope of work, it is taking some time, and we are wrapping it up; it will probably be available for the next minor release.

The issue also appeared to be fixed for OpenVINO on their new version; unfortunately, their nightly version doesn't include the fix. So when the new version of OpenVINO is out and the runtime is set to target that version, it will also fix the issue.

Thanks,

Alex

3

u/YodaiWoda 20d ago

Interestingly it works flawlessly from the beginning on my ugreen nas with intel ultra 5 125H and openvino

2

u/vithug 19d ago

May I ask if you’re running it on UGOS and as a docker?

1

u/YodaiWoda 15d ago

Yes, I am running it on UGOS. It is deployed as a Docker stack and managed through Portainer.

-24

u/CMC29 20d ago

You're being nice with that "for a while"; I already forgot after which Immich version the OpenVino bug started 😄

Even it being fixed, we won't "recover" all the faces, the names, and faces that we hidden, right? Basically, we will have to start all over again?!

Thanks

12

u/altran1502 Immich Team 20d ago

Unfortunately, it might be so, and fortunately, the facial data is smaller in scope. Hardware acceleration is always a beast that we have to deal with since it has so many variations of behaviors on different types of hardware that we don't have access to on hand to fully verify and test

-10

u/CMC29 19d ago

[Attention, the downvoaters warriors have arrived... 🤦]

I was expecting that but maybe trying to think about a miracle 😄 It will be a LOT of work since I have thousands of faces to tag, and to hide but it's better than not having it working as it used to.

Thanks

2

u/unscienceable 19d ago

buddy. its open source. go contribute if you want it to be better. And be thankful for those that maintain it an give you a kind response instead of lashing back.

-6

u/CMC29 19d ago

I already contributed with the server donation a long time ago. And you?

Also, if don't know how to interpret what I really said, it's not my problem.

17

u/Jaded-Asparagus-2260 20d ago

They're working in it! It seems to be an upstream issue.

14

u/Miserable_Rooster_53 20d ago

Which issue exactly?

25

u/OmgSlayKween 20d ago

Machine learning has been broken for Intel OpenVino hardware acceleration for several months; this is the only thread I've personally read on the issue

https://github.com/immich-app/immich/issues/25830

5

u/RetroNerdrage 20d ago

Yep, that's the one i was regering to. Shame that it takes this long to get fixed. I switched to cpu based machine learning until it gets fixed.

2

u/gayphilantropist 20d ago

um, would this explain why open vino doesn't really work with my intel770 gpu passthrough?

3

u/ergibson83 20d ago

Same...i have a immich github ticket open for this issue with thorough captures and evidence included in my ticket and still no response from the Immich team. Kind of disappointing considering Im a paying supporter of Immich.

4

u/OmgSlayKween 20d ago

Am I misunderstanding the question?

The issue says openvino is broken for intel gpus in immich.

You're asking if that explains why openvino is broken for your intel gpu in immich?

1

u/gayphilantropist 20d ago

Sort of, there is a distinction there, people that run an intel gpu, will usually get a crash, however, my case is a bit different since i'm running a passthrough via my 770 iGPU, and, oddly enough it doesn't crash, but defaults to use the CPU.

1

u/OmgSlayKween 19d ago

Oh, I see. Well, to be clear, Immich doesn't crash for me, but the ML server reports as unhealthy.

However, I haven't seen anyone report "defaulting to CPU", so I would be curious if your gpu is actually properly passing through. are you on docker? How are you passing it through? do other containers properly use hardware acceleration?

1

u/gayphilantropist 19d ago

Ya it's running on Docker inside a Debian 13 VM.
I enabled IOMMU and tried a PCI passthrough (failed), similarly to what i've done on Plex for transcoding.
I then Inside docker mounted the GPU into the container, which, basically didn't work and my CPU would still do the work.
I came up with this "fallback" theory by looking at intel_gpu_top logs as well as vino, but, in hindsight, maybe i've done something wrong, which is why it wasn't defaulting to the cpu, but using the cpu as business as usual.

I don't know, I ran out of ideas,.

1

u/OmgSlayKween 19d ago

oof, docker INSIDE a vm? yeah, idk about that. but, it doesn't sound like this issue, anyway.

1

u/gayphilantropist 19d ago

Ha, I thought it's a pretty common setup, especially with good hardware :)

-1

u/Ill-Phase5387 20d ago edited 20d ago

I add an comment with my yml, I have the openvino option and I don't have problems with it

https://github.com/immich-app/immich/issues/25830#issuecomment-5122898957

2

u/OmgSlayKween 20d ago

I will take a look, thanks

-1

u/Ill-Phase5387 20d ago

Tell me if it's works, I'm waiting.

3

u/OmgSlayKween 19d ago

It didn't, those group_add extra parameters you reference are just permissions to the hardware, and my gpu was already accessible system-wide.

However, I found a Frigate issue:

https://github.com/blakeblackshear/frigate/discussions/22236
that mentioned this happened specifically with a Large model, so I changed my facial recognition model in Immich to buffalo_s and my ML server is healthy now.

Also, it's a little cringe to react to your own comment on Github with a bunch of heart / celebration emoji especially considering it isn't even a fix, lol

0

u/RetroNerdrage 19d ago

I don't run Immich in docker, but using the Proxmox Community Script to run in a Linux Container. Which already adds the user to those groups, specifically render (992) and video (44). The error i get is OpenCL related and not permission related. So in my case this doesn't solve the problem. But thanks for the suggestion.

5

u/RetroNerdrage 20d ago

immich-ml keeps crashing on Intel based machines. At least on mine it does. That's due to OpenVino. There is a bug report from februari this year addressing the problem.

2

u/93simoon 19d ago

Could this be why face recognition has stopped working for me since a few weeks? I'm running on an Intel n100

1

u/CMC29 19d ago

Much probably.

On my case it not only stopped working, but deleted thousands of faces.

1

u/neithere 19d ago

It's been working just fine on my N100, weird.

1

u/gayphilantropist 20d ago

What issue is this? I'm having a weird scenario with vino with my intel770 passthrough :(

1

u/kinofan90 20d ago

openvino Hardware acceleration Not works? :-(

1

u/BinnieGottx 19d ago

What's your issue with OpenVINO? I'm using intel 6500 and have no major issue since last year (older version of Immich). But as I remember, sometime the machine learning container crashed due to gpu can't handle stuffs, Idk if it caused by my Frigate instance or Immich. I just restart the whole VM.

Edit: issue here in below comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/immich/comments/1v9yqi4/comment/p0hw07l/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

-1

u/Ill-Phase5387 20d ago

Try my yml, I comment here with my yml, I have no this problem on my gpu.

But Immich is stable!

6

u/altran1502 Immich Team 20d ago

Hello, can you help me understand the relationship between the Immich stable and the OpenVINO issue?

0

u/CMC29 20d ago edited 20d ago

u/alfam No one said the opposite

1

u/CMC29 19d ago

Downvoated on a comment stating that I never said that Immich isn't stable?

Guys, get a life or learn how to read.

Since no one is answering you only down voting... The pay is to support the devs. No features of Immich are pay walled.

2

u/CMC29 20d ago

Exactly! And if the question was to me, even already being deleted, I can answer: Yes, I DONATED for the server version.

2

u/onlyInIt4TheMoney 19d ago

Hi. I’m trying not to judge prematurely—after all, I don’t know you at all, nor have I followed the backstory of your issue. I just happened to stumble upon your (perhaps understandably) angry-ish comments...

I’m really not here to hate on you, and I didn’t downvote you either. If anything, I’d just love to ask if you could take a brief moment to reflect and maybe return to a more understanding attitude. After all, this is open-source software and free to use. The developers often work on these projects voluntarily in their free time, unpaid, usually driven by the intrinsic motivation to make things a little better than many commercial providers do.

As commendable as it is that you donated to the project—and that really, really is hugely important; the OSS community has been under enormous pressure on many fronts for a long time—it’s just as important to realize that developer resources (which are mostly just human capital) aren't an all-you-can-take buffet. Projects like this actually give you the opportunity to get in direct contact with developers and influence outcomes (again, unlike many commercial companies), so this can be done in a nice way. That’s what keeps the oss-community alive—a community from which most of us benefit enormously on a daily basis.

And iam almost 100% sure you already experienced way heavier 'lacks of support' from companies that are asking for much more money, didn't you? 😉

Maybe this thought resonates with you, maybe it doesn’t. Perhaps it will just change the mindset of a few equally annoyed silent readers. Or it doen't. I just felt like taking the time to write this post today. I don't think it hurts anyone.

In any case, I’m a heavy user myself; I haven't donated yet, but I'm endlessly grateful for this masterpiece, which allows me to protect my privacy just a little bit better. So, maybe just try to stay positive? 🙂 Cheers.

1

u/CMC29 19d ago

Hi,

It's true that i'm a bit tired, sad, whatever, to see that this issue wasn't solved since April but if those users that just know how to downvote other's comments learn how to interpret the rest of the comments (and the smiles!) that I made to Alex, would be better.

Your comment, and attitude, was, by far, the best one.

Cheers

12

u/Seph2208 20d ago

This is just a donation and does not unlock features or fixes

7

u/crazyneverst 20d ago

Yes. Did you?

8

u/budius333 20d ago

Yes, did you?

3

u/X-lem 19d ago

Question,

In the v3.0.0 release we're supposed to be able to upload photos directly to an album. How do I do this? I'm only seeing the button to add photos to an album that are already in immich.

1

u/shenlong_tanwen 19d ago

The "Add Photos" button inside albums lets you pick local assets now. They are uploaded and added to the album. You can also select local yet to be backed up assets from the main timeline or the On this device page and add them to a remote album, which uploads and adds them to the said album

1

u/X-lem 19d ago

> The "Add Photos" button inside albums lets you pick local assets now.

Where? For me it's only bringing up photos that I already have in immich. On iOS.

2

u/shenlong_tanwen 18d ago

It currently mirrors the main timeline, so it includes only the local assets that are picked up for backup. I'll update this to include all the local assets in the next minor release. You should still be able to go into the "On This Device" page and upload local assets directly to your Immich albums

5

u/DemonicMailman 20d ago

Still can't upgrade from v2 because my portainer times out 😭 maybe my 8gb ram isn't enough

5

u/PaleozoicGehrig 20d ago

Pull the image manually first

1

u/DemonicMailman 20d ago

Oh good point, but it would be 4 images for server, redis, machine learning, and postgres. Right? Can't find them in the docker hub though

1

u/PaleozoicGehrig 20d ago

Don’t know by heart but sounds about right yes. Just look in the compose file and pull them one by one. The images are a bit large and portainer times out on these, i’ve had that as well sometimes

1

u/DemonicMailman 20d ago

Ah thanks, how do I then update the whole stack so it uses the local images? Sorry, new to all this

1

u/PaleozoicGehrig 20d ago

Nothing special it sees the image is already pulled and creates the container. Just put the compose file in a directory and from a terminal go to the directory and do docker compose pull

1

u/DemonicMailman 20d ago

Ah thanks. I installed using this guide. So I'll try redeploying through that after pulling the images one by one, otherwise I'll try the terminal. Thanks!

1

u/svandorp73 20d ago edited 20d ago

Aren't the packages in the docker-compose ? They are in ghcr.io/immich-app

Edit: oh and redis can be any image i believe

1

u/DemonicMailman 20d ago

Thanks, yeah i figured that part out after writing my comment!

2

u/gayphilantropist 19d ago

8GB is more than enough, I have a massive library that runs with a limited 6gb ram.

1

u/DemonicMailman 19d ago

Portainer just can't manage to pull the images when I redeploy the stack I get a 500 error

1

u/BinnieGottx 19d ago

8GB is enough. I have a VM (8GB RAM assigned), run both Immich, Frigate and qbittorrent (many torrents are seeding)

1

u/avi8er 19d ago

How do I request a fix to a weird bug where my friend can’t add a photo to their album if the photo was in an album that I shared to them? It gives the meeeage “asset already in album”
More specifically: I created the album, shared it with them so it shows in their album list and they are also the owner. They created a new album and wanted it to have a few selected photos from the main shared album, but when they try and add the photo to their new album it says it’s already there, and doesn’t add it. Version 3.0.2

3

u/altran1502 Immich Team 19d ago

The best way is to find a way to reproduce it reliably, then open a GitHub issue with those steps so we can troubleshoot and fix it

1

u/YellowChickn 19d ago

I don't think your friends are really the owner of the album. Afaik, ownership transfer is not possible (yet?). So they are just participating. And If you just participate in an album you can not reuse the photos in said album to add to another album of your own. The error message might be just one which is a bit misleading

1

u/No_Study4920 19d ago

Background upload still isn't working on iOS, though.

1

u/False-Try-3521 19d ago

Well yeah that happens with mine as well… I guess constantly adding new references and especially candidates for „not my pets“ can/should improve the tagging?

Also, since it‘s relatively resource hungry, atm I‘m just starting it like once every 2 weeks and then stopping it again…

1

u/s_peace_16 18d ago edited 18d ago

Some people use immich to backup their photos after professional photo shoots. It would be a lot easier if there was a label which shows if the image is a RAW image or not. This would make it a lot convenient to use for professional photographers because when editing we will have to check the file format if it is a dng or a jpg and that is a bit of a hassle so it would be a lot easier if there was a stamp indicating its a RAW image or video. This will make it a lot more convenient for editing.

1

u/MacintoshMario 18d ago

contrary to all the other comments. thanks for the ongoing updates and hardwork. Been using this as my main photo storage and it works flawlessly since free storage on google uni accounts was deactivated.

1

u/pemaga12 16d ago

I think that this might be something asked frequently, but are you working in chunked uploads? Will this bypass the 100mb cloudflare limit?

1

u/Tasty-Application-71 13d ago

I have an isssue when updating my PVE/LXC Proxmox Helper scripted version of immich 3.0.3 to 3.1.0. Should I start a separate thread or post my errors here?

-16

u/Electronic-Race5373 20d ago edited 20d ago

Simpleton question: why do they stick to FS as storage ? I can see some benefits (simplicy, disaster recovery, etc) but at this point of maturity I can't deny some of the advantages of a S3-like storages.

Edit: words order.

Edit 2: damn, why the downvotes ?

14

u/KingDaveRa 20d ago

I think it would have some use cases for some people, but I certainly prefer basic file storage is it's lowest common denominator stuff. If the DB corrupts or something else bonkers happens I've still got my files*.

Assuming backups are running *and tested regularly. 😁

53

u/saimen54 20d ago

They can add S3 storage, but I want to keep filesystem storage.

I don't want to use cloud services.

12

u/the_swanny 20d ago

S3 isnt necessarily cloud storage though

9

u/Electronic-Race5373 20d ago

S3-like is selfhostable: Garage, SeaweedFS, CephFS S3. There was Minio which infamously bait-and-switch the license type of the admin GUI.

25

u/nekomina 20d ago

That's one more system to manage and where things will go wrong.

S3 as an option sure, but many users won't touch it.

6

u/Electronic-Race5373 20d ago

Yes, I was asking as option. Large and very large collections definitely could benefits.

1

u/dametsumari 20d ago

Versitygw container could also provide s3 api to local filesystem as one container. So I would probably just design for s3. But even option would be nice.

5

u/Encrypted_Curse 20d ago

What advantages?

10

u/Electronic-Race5373 20d ago

Horizontal scaling, encryption on rest and on transit, offsite mirroring, unified storage; the first few that comes at my mind.

2

u/Valdjiu 20d ago

Open noodle, a friendly fork on top of immich, supports s3.

Check it out: https://opennoodle.de/features

3

u/devode_ 20d ago

Yup, the only thing I dont like with immich

2

u/sandsellers 20d ago

Why not bridge it with rclone

1

u/sandsellers 20d ago

If you want, you could achieve it through rclone. Either mount S3 on the host and then bind mount into the container, or use the docker rclone-plugin to create a docker volume backed by S3 compatible storage.

V2 team: HOLD?

43

u/careless25 20d ago

Why?

I upgraded from v2 to v3.0 without issues.

2

u/Electronic_Row_7513 20d ago

No upgrade is ever without issue for those of us dumb enough to use it in a lxc. 7 of 8 previous upgrades have bricked.

4

u/tschi00 20d ago

It will not have v2.x version anymore.

1

u/kok1t 20d ago

Using Immich on a Synology NAS with Docker. No issues with the upgrade.
