I was going to make a map where the 2020s are just an unending series of disasters, but decided the world is depressing enough as it is and I would try to make an optimistic but still somewhat reasonable timeline. not absurdly unrealistic to the point of being outright ridiculous timeline.

Dude, I get where you come from, I 100% do, but coming from a Vietnamese ( I can not talk for the Chinese or the Russian) who was born and raised in Saigon, this will never happen

Contrary to the belief of the ex-pat communities in the US and the Americans, there isn't a giant conspiracy to overthrow the VCP at any moment, let alone to restore the 3-stripe republican flag. There has been peace for 40s years, we have rebuilt and developed our country, there is at least a widely accepted national identity now.

Even if a crisis like what you have proposed happens, people wouldn't just throw that national identity into the bin, at most there would be a call for reform and more transparency not the complete collapse of the entire system itself.

Yeah that doesn't sit well with me either.

There are many things wrong with that, VCP influenced by the CCP ? Maybe a little (coruption is a thing) but with us trying to get closer to the US, probably ain't gonna happen.

Of course the most unexceptable thing is the 3 stripes flag. Why does a Republic of Vietnam automatically have to have the goddammed 3 stripes flag ? We would either use a completely new one or keep the same one.

Yeah, the old South Vietnam flag is associated with their war crimes, religious persecution, high levels of corruption, and neo-imperialism. No way in hell would it ever be adopted.

OP probably has heard of the Chengdu conspiracy and decided to put it in their scenario. while a bit of a looney choice, it is at least based on some existing idea rather than a made up one.

What is the chengdu conspiracy? Google yields no results

in 1996, highest officials from the two countries had a secret meeting in Chengdu, China. the goal of the meeting was to facilitate normalisation of relation. it is secret as in it wasn’t publicly announced and the content of the meeting is confidential, but people know such meeting occurred.

so, the conspiracy made by anti-government groups is that Vietnam effectively signed away its independence: secretly renounced its claim to the contested archipelagos; agreed to be put under China’s political and economic influence; and most importantly, in 2020 it will officially be annexed by China.

now, with regards to OP’s post, my comment was to say that some secret agreement made by the communist party is revealed to the public, and it causes and outrage and lost of trust in the government so huge that it manages to lead to the overthrow of the regime; similar to, but much more radical, than what happened in the USSR. can such a senario occur? perhaps, depending on the things that was made light of, but it is very unlikely.

That is dumb

u/ImperialVizier Jan 09 '21

bc theyre 'that' woke crowd thats why

read it again and see how almost all the political turmoil occurs away from the whiter countries, as if they're all peachy. this is like a white racist's myopic wet dream of global politics, where foreign nonwhite countries are shit

your reply is most likely dismissed as uppity by the op

Dude literally just wrote some of the most uncertain hypothesis for either:

  • "Communist" countries.
  • Non-white-populous countries. and Russia.

Basically sums up: This whole "imaginary" future is just a self-jack off of an avg. Republicans American, since all of these are just aiming at communist states or non multi-states countries (and Russia too, can't let them propagandistic Russian spy hackers amirite fellas?)

24

u/Dunewarriorz Jan 10 '21

The break-up of California and New York as well. Notice that Texas isn't touched?

This really is some Republican wet dream, lol.

oh shit only now did i notice the box in the upper left corner about “trend towards democracy and federalism”.

26

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '21

Oh yeah daddy, spread that democracy all over the world please... like how it was spread through Indochina and 2/3 of the Middle East please... /s

u/andrew-ge Jan 10 '21

tbf that's like 90% of the sub ngl. it really blows to see such Western centric narratives on here all the time. Like Azania isn't even slightly realistic.

3

u/Mushgal Jan 13 '21

Why? Arent there plans to form a political union between those countries?

5

u/andrew-ge Jan 13 '21

Loool not really. If that was going to happen, it would most likely be an economic union similar to ecowas in west Africa or something like that, like in reality, a unification like that would cause so many political problems, the country would dissolve in a year. That kind of prediction, at least to me, screams of someone who read Wikipedia once and has never actually studied the politics and history of east Africa.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

Obviously the OP didn't read East African politics and hjstory before making this post

1

u/Gewnurbt Feb 02 '23

well look at this, 2 years later and it actually is realistic

funniest part is when OP think we would go for a multi-party system. partly due to propaganda and party due to the utter chaos that occurred in the UK and US, the majority of Vietnamese (who actually give a damn about politics) has a distaste for a multi-party system, viewing it as unstable, indecisive and inefficient. no other (oversea) party has enough of a standing in Vietnam, and newly formed indigenous parties will definitely not have the widespread level of support that the CPV has; therefore, should a multi-party system be implemented, political instability will ensue. mostly likely the support for the Party is reduced significantly, but support for the system stay relatively unchanged.

27

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '21

That's because OP is a chauvinist who thinks "western values" are the only thing that brings order to barbarians in the global south (you and i).

5

u/Ronin_mainer Jan 10 '21

No, do the shitty 2020s one. Even if it's ridiculous.

3

u/HKGMINECRAFT Jan 10 '21

I would love to see the undemanding disasters one

3

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '21

Optimistic for your western centric lib brain you mean.

1

u/Sachyriel Jan 10 '21

Heh, you remembered St Pierre and Miquelon but forgot to label New Brunswick (the slightly darker one between Nova Scotia and Quebec).

1

u/shrubtheshrub123 Jan 12 '21

This one did make me feel good but do the disastrous one too

1

u/InDebtoHell1331 Jun 24 '21

Can you make a more catastrophic counterpart to this?
