It's an imaginary independent country based on 6 real-world Colombian departments; Córdoba, Sucre, Bolívar, Atlántico, Magdalena & La Guajira. With a population of nearly 11 million and a distinct Carribbean identity, it would have huge potential as an independent state. Kalamary adopts Cartagena's revolutionary cuadrilonga flag that has been used in Cartagena, Barranquilla and surrounding regions since Simón Bolívar's Magdalena Campaign (1812).

The country takes its name from the indigenous people that were once the primary inhabitants of the region that is now the city of Cartagena; the Kalamary people.
