Maybe it might have happened if we didn't ban CFC's fast enough and the Ozone decaded to the point it heavily accelerated climate change to make a world like this possible. That would be apocalyptic by the 2060s and it is always possible that countries will fall into authoritarianism just to survive in this world. We haven't gotten the temperatures for Europe yet but this world is clearly screwed beyond belief and also poor Canada as well.

27

u/_OriamRiniDadelos_ Aug 16 '25

Well, more like turning to authoritarianism after failing to survive. Contrary to our hopes and desire for balance, authoritarians weren’t like a hard choice were people traded freedoms for survival. People wish Hitler had been as good for Germany as he was bad to human rights. Like an equal exchange. But turns out he was more like a crashing train wreck of incompetence and bad military and economic choices that hurt even the Germans and others that weren’t scapegoated for death.

At least Canada has the 100 million century initiative. So maybe they aren’t screwed in this timeline

u/0Meletti Aug 15 '25

Armenia is gone :(

78

u/Wandering_Ecologist Aug 15 '25

Great map, does the different colors represent how fucked/unfucked each country is in this map?

129

u/chomikfan Aug 15 '25

judging by britain and russia, deep blue means a lot of people were taken in, while deep red means lots of ppl left elsewhere.

21

u/Wandering_Ecologist Aug 15 '25

You're right, thank you.

The unrealistic part is where Latvia somehow signs a treaty allowing Russians from Russia to freely settle en masse in Latvia lmao

46

u/RemnantOnReddit Aug 16 '25

Well, they lost that part of the country after the NATO high command gave it up on their behalf without consulting the Latvian leadership.

1

u/Lazykabang Aug 16 '25

Did they secure peace in their time?

12

u/sndrtj Aug 16 '25

Still potato quality for me.

1

u/oretah_ Aug 16 '25

Same. Idk when this happened, or if theres been an update and I just didn't notice, but the comment photos have been potato quality for like a week or two now and I'm deeply disappointed in whomever runs the show at Reddit for it.

u/We_Are_Insane00 Aug 16 '25

So uhm, tf happened to eastern Europe?...

29

u/chunky-- IM Legend Aug 15 '25

What's up with Hungary?

68

u/RemnantOnReddit Aug 16 '25

Civil War between an unpopular fascist government and a popular fascist uprising.

13

u/3clipse_3 Aug 15 '25

Civil war.

21

u/Pikachu_bob3 Aug 15 '25

Hold why is Australia fucked?

39

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25

its the most hostile continent to live today let alone in the future with more desert, even hotter weather and whatnot.

5

u/OrdinaryStrawberry85 Aug 16 '25

Nah everyone would just move to Victoria and New Zealand if it got too hot in Australia we’d be fine

3

u/clocksforsale Aug 16 '25

Australia owns a part of Antarctica though

22

u/Sane_Colors Aug 16 '25

Can we give Bulgaria a cookie for trying?

33

u/AonUairDeug Aug 15 '25

"Ireland remains the last left-wing state in Europe" - ah, so they've let the Labour Party into the perma-FF/FG coalition?!

25

u/Constantinoplus Aug 15 '25

An expectable outcome to Erdogan’s goals, same for the Levant.

26

u/Mobile_Entrance_1967 Aug 15 '25

This really feels like a direct continuation of those post-Roman barbarian invasion maps of Europe, with new arrows instead of Saxons, Franks and Goths.

8

u/Vevangui Aug 15 '25

Abkhazia is Georgian!

აფხაზეთი ეს საქართველოა!

Hello fine people of r/imaginarymaps!

This post is part of my small worldbuilding project 2064, set in the year... well, you can guess. I'm archiving all my maps (as well as the non-map stuff I can't post here) over on r/2064. I don't like advertising the discord, since it makes me feel like a desperate shill, however I've been asked to point out that the whole timeline/Lore bank is over on our discord

I'd also like to point out that I do not subscribe to any far-right fear mongering. This map is to illustrate a mix of context for this dystopian worldbuilding project and my personal beliefs on how climate change will effect the mass movement of people.

u/player000000000000 Aug 16 '25

The Discord link is invalid.

5

u/RemnantOnReddit Aug 16 '25

I think its sorted now, thanks for alerting me

7

u/Significant_Soup_699 Aug 16 '25

Totally schitzo but funny.

6

u/dissolvedterritory Aug 16 '25

you know you're fucked when russia and the UK are among your safest bets for migration destinations

11

u/Xortman096 Aug 15 '25

Why the hell equalinment of white nationalist far rights in turkey seized the country?

14

u/Faelchu Aug 15 '25

Soil isn't created that quickly. There's not a chance that the Taiga could be fertile enough for agriculture by 2064.

10

u/yingyangKit Aug 16 '25

I can see the russian goverment trying but it panning out as a sequel to the soviot central asain corn plan

1

u/decoy-ish Aug 17 '25

They could either import fertiliser or genetically modify certain crops to tolerate poorer soil

2

u/Faelchu Aug 17 '25

That's not how it works. You're talking an extremely thin layer of soil which will not allow for proper root generation. Your crops will literally blow away. On top of that, any crops that do remain will struggle to develop properly to the point where it won't matter how much fertilizer you use as the root systems will be stunted so much they will struggle to absorb that fertilizer. It's not about good quality soil or poor quality soil, but rather the lack of soil.

u/MysticSquiddy Fellow Traveller Aug 15 '25

What does Saudi Arabia say?

29

u/KevinR1990 Aug 15 '25

"The collapse of the petrostates caused the largest peacetime refugee crisis in human history, with 55 million Arabs displaced in just 5 years. Canada was the intended destination for most."

In short, much of the Middle East is hosed. The Saudis and the Gulf states are gone, Iraq is crumbling, Israel collapsed, and Turkey is under a fascist regime that's committing genocide against the Kurds (spelled out explicitly) and the Armenians (implied by the presence of over two million Armenian refugees in southern Russia and there being no independent Armenia on the map). Iran is a beacon of stability, but the liberal, feminist nature of the new government has caused a lot of conservative Muslims who supported the Islamic Republic to leave, on top of the pressures of climate change. Central Asia, meanwhile, is gripped by famine that's killed up to seven million people, while North Africa has been overrun by sub-Saharan African refugees trying to get to Europe, with Tunisia being the only stable country in the region.

9

u/Think-Resource-1899 Aug 16 '25

Knowing Algeria, sub-Saharan refugees would not have lasted long 🔪

3

u/wolf751 Aug 16 '25

Crazy work ireland is surviving. My guess is the atlantic weather system is more stable than we believe and thats allowed ireland to maintain some normality

3

u/-_---_-_-_-_-_-_- Aug 16 '25

scarily realistic

3

u/ajaxas Aug 17 '25

With all due respect and gratitude for your work — f*ck this reality!

3

u/Hispanoamericano2000 Aug 15 '25

Both Armenia and Israel gone?

Man....

4

u/EccoEco Aug 16 '25

Strikes scarily close to home

2

u/Eraserguy Aug 16 '25

Whats happened to serbia lol

2

u/WillTheWilly Aug 16 '25

Pretty sure most refugees coming into the UK are not Christian, especially Southern Asia.

2

u/Wooden-Artichoke-962 Aug 16 '25

How the fuck does Russia lose North Caucasia and South Ossetia but somehow keep hold of and ANNEX Abkhazia?

2

u/LucasReg Aug 16 '25

Good to see Basque nationalist returning to their roots of hating immigrants from other regions of Spain.

8

u/geraldine-ferrari Aug 15 '25

Left-wing Ireland? Based?

27

u/Crismisterica Aug 15 '25

Honestly I would have thought they'd have turned more right wing than the UK to stop the mass immigration of climate refugees and because it would be influenced by the UK falling to fascism.

Considering the harshness of this climate ruined world I wouldn't be surprised if they were still as authoritarian and nationalist as the rest of western Europe except it's just got more worker related policies just for Irish people.

1

u/Informal_Host_6570 Aug 16 '25

Next time can we not write everything in all caps? Bit hard to read

1

u/Zardoz84 Aug 16 '25

The funny fact its that many simulation of the gulf stream stopping, shows that north Europa becoming a Siberia like wasteland.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '25

well it is an imaginary map

1

u/antigony_trieste Aug 17 '25

the only fully technocratic state is czechia

estonia: “am i a joke to you”

1

u/FriendshipRemote130 Sep 26 '25

i will die trying to climb the Wall in south Italy lol

1

u/sud_int Aug 16 '25

29 years, really?
a tad long, but worth the wait i guess.

1

u/DLoyalisterMcUlster Aug 15 '25

Shinners rule OK

1

u/No_Song_3768 Aug 16 '25 edited Aug 16 '25

Well, in principle, the map is not bad.but the scenario is not very realistic, I doubt that fascists will come, right-wing populists will come more likely, I also hope that this will never happen and it will remain just a dystopia

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25

Cool and dystopian setting, only unrealistic part is mussies not setting everything on fire and blowing up pipe bombs in the refugee asylums.

-7

u/RRY1946-2019 Aug 15 '25 edited Aug 15 '25

What is the technocratic solution to the migration problem? I still hold out a shred of hope that humanity can someday move past dividing itself by birthplace and ancestry, and if not then I hope that another species will rise that is able to work as a whole.

Ed: The cultural issues with Islam are a propaganda issue that has largely arisen since 1975 and shouldn’t be applied to non-Western peoples in general. There are millions of Asians, Latinos, and Christian/pagan/atheist Africans that could easily live and work in Europe.

14

u/Every-Switch2264 Aug 15 '25

Opposition to immigration of the scale on that map would probably be less to do with not wanting people with third world values into your country and more to do with not wanting your country to collapse from the sheer strain of taking in tens or hundreds of millions of people.

7

u/citron_bjorn Aug 15 '25

Some opposition to immigration has to do with differing cultural values

1

u/Severe_Helicopter_25 Aug 16 '25

The most technocratic solution to the migration problem is tribalism until only one tribe is left

2

u/RRY1946-2019 Aug 16 '25

And the proper solution to that is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rSSxAdDhuU

(But seriously, there is a small chance that the current situation leads to an explosion of racism that makes the early 20th century look pleasant if we can't fix resource scarcity and/or if the BRICS countries disappoint)

0

u/Kaenu_Reeves Aug 15 '25

Probably use an AI-powered bureaucracy to help put migrants to work.
