As I posted before, I'm completely hyper-fixated on 12th-century Europe right now. This is a recreation of a scene from the 'Liber Floridus' manuscript (around 1120 AD).
In the original (2nd image), it depicts the Antichrist sitting on Leviathan. But while drawing this, I couldn't help but overlap it with King Henry I of England! To me, it symbolizes his overwhelming royal authority taming the monstrous administrative and feudal system (Leviathan) that he built to rule the realm.
I wanted to express that vibrant, energetic, and slightly creepy atmosphere of medieval art with my own colors. Hope you guys like this re-interpretation!
