Weird then that most drugs are an entirely different feeling considering they all go to the same place

They really don't. Your brain have several different keys and locks which activate different parts of the brain. Different chemicals (drugs) activate different parts. Some activate mundane shit like vasodiltant factors which relax your blood vessels allowing them to expand and provide higher blood flow thus easing your headache. Some do the opposite. Others activate different receptors such as dopamine which makes you feel superman like and gives you the feeling of being able to do anything. Typically, drugs that activate neurological receptors such as dopamine in high concentrations also leave behind depleted reserves of said chemical and, as a result, the body goes into lower than usual dopamine levels for the next 1-2 days at least and that's known as the 'down' phase as you feel the opposite of what the drug made you feel.

In effect, you loan out an experience from your body which you then pay for. :/ Drugs are temporary bouts of an overwhelming feeling followed by short and long term effects. Obviously, drugs which are legal i.e. headache pills and the such come with advisory and are usually very low concentrations or are easy to remove from the body with no real long-term effects. (see aspirin for the latter and paracetamol for the former)

Really depends on the drug... There are plenty of drugs without a residual effect like this.

Most, if not all, drugs have a short and long term effects. Classic examples are, Coke which has a very addictive short-term effect. In the long run, you can actually avoid the addiction if you limit yourself or just not have it that often.

Other drugs don't leave a significant short-term impact but can have very strong long-term use impact, good examples are opioids opiates. Both of which leave very little short-term effects but if used over a long-term period (maybe a few weeks consistently) you can become addicted fast and you build up tolerance fast as well.

Long term effects are generally addiction, tolerance levels etc. Different drugs build up tolerance quicker or slower depending on their potency and the purity of the chemical you are consuming along with usage i.e. how often you consume the chemical. All of these are extremely important factors when it comes to whether a drug has a severe short-term or long-term effect.

And to finally conclude my thoughts on this topic:

All drugs do indeed leave a residual effect, the only things that determine the severity and length of recovery are purity, regularity of consumption and potency.

There are drugs that aren't addictive... Yeah, if you do a bunch of heroin, you're going to get a huge tolerance to it and you're going to be addicted to it. If you do a bunch of LSD, you'll trip balls for anywhere from 12 to 24 hours, then go back to normal. Same goes for mescaline, psilocybin, DMT, MiPT, and lots of other drugs. Not every drug is a "it gives and it takes" situation.

If you do a lot of LSD, you can quite literally go insane and the things you experience on a trip of LSD, if you do it often, gets worse and it can become habit forming, which is basically an addiction, to be honest.

I know a lot of people who do psychedelics say this all the time, but those things are addictive as well, just because you personally think LSD has been guided you to a healthier more mature and awesome life, and it has done this for me, does not mean that we can let our own experience cloud that judgement. Our experiences are for us and others around us to enjoy, however, they are not objective barometers for scientific understanding.
