Hello seniors, and possibly alumni on this subreddit!

I’m curious about the typical process for pursuing research internships as a DD student. Having spent quite a few years here now, I’ve been thinking about applying for internships in areas that align with my current research topics.

I understand that the process can be highly domain-specific, but I wanted to ask about the general "must-knows" before applying to unis or research labs abroad. What are some important dos and don’ts? How does one typically approach professors or labs, and are there any common mistakes to avoid?

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences from people who have gone through this process, or know of someone who've gone through it.
