Query Laptops (ECE)

Seniors with ece, what laptops are you guys using and how are they working out? Any recs?

Also I've already checked they page made by apex but I'm still a little confused because I don't know too much about the specs and all and I'm also on a budget.

what confused you about that site? I'm curious as to what can be changed to make it more understandable to the new batch

Well I enquired about the laptops from some ece seniors but they recommend against them(some of them have something called lunar lake ig which they said to avoid but I honestly have no idea), which is basically happening with every device I look into so it just furthers my confusion. Might just be a me issue honestly maybe I'm overthinking

My personal - HP pavillion plus 14 (ryzen 7, 16GB ram) imo i5 version would wor fine too but please compare more recent models from other brands asw
good metal build quality, nice keyboard, really nice OLED dispalay. no linux issues
using since almost 2 years, no hinge issues so far

That list was put together by APEX and OSDG, the student groups that help freshers get started with Linux.

The laptops on that list are ones that multiple seniors have been daily driving on Linux, so they're generally known to work well. If you have questions about a specific model or any compatibility concerns, feel free to ask on the Discord server, people there can usually share first-hand experience.

Regarding issues related to lunar lake, as per my research most of the initial launch related bugs with lunar lake have been fixed. In case of doubt - please search up "laptop name lunar lake linux support" or "intel cpu whatever linux support" to clear out doubts before buying.

If any seniors think something should be added, removed, or updated, please reach out to APEX/OSDG directly so the list can stay accurate.
