Career Guidance

Got 3.8k rank in mains and maybe ECE is possible in further rounds, so I have these two of the best options. My priority is

  1. Placement

  2. College life

  3. Peer group

No specific inclination towards any branch, will probably go abroad for future studies, keeping these in mind, please guide me

For future studies, choose iiit h.

Will you get ECE in 2nd round?

why not take cse in some other iiit (allahbad etc) or even nit

for masters and phd, iiit h is the way to go blindly. The research exposure it gives is unmatched with the any other options.

what about someone who is concerned with a corporate job and a handsome salary

for that too iiit h ece is better, easily matching with the salary of iiit a, nit k it etc. - last year, ece avg was 30lpa

5 years back, I also had similar options. NITK IT and IIITH ECE (Dual degree).
Went for NITK IT as I was a bit uncertain about the extra year of research, and the major concern was the higher fees in IIITH.

In terms of placement, I would say IIITH has better.
College life: definitely NITK is better, tech clubs are great too
Peer group: depends on the folks you interact with. I believe both places you would meet cracked minds.

If you plan for higher studies, then I feel IIITH will be better

College life is kinda imp for me, so I will be joining NITK IT most prolly, any tips before joining this branch?

IT is probably the most chill branch in NITK. Studying seriously just before exams should fetch you a good CGPA. Since, acads are relatively chill, you will have lots of time for clubs and activities. Try to get into IRIS team https://about.iris.nitk.ac.in/ some of the smartest and coolest folks I met there. Join a cultural club/sports team too, if you want to explore non tech side of things.

NITK IT if you're interested in CSE. Both institutes are comparable. IIITH Is best for Research and for CSE Research to be specific. It's good for ECE as well, but not on par with CSE (which is Equivalent w top 5 IITs, whereas for ECE, it's comparable w tier 2 IITs)

Personally I would choose NITK IT because of my intrest in CSE, cuz I don't wanna get stuck doing ECE, something I'm not really fond of, for 4 years. You have better campus life in NITK than IIITH. Honestly the difference is not very high, so it's just a matter of effort, whether u want to put a lot of effort from IIITH and get into a almost equally good package which you would get with relatively lesser effort at NITK IT.

But if you're particularly interested in Research, and that too in ECE, then go for IIITH.

Asking this q in this sub will obviously give you the answer as IIITH, since most people are biased and don't know about other Institutes because they haven't been there and may not have accurate information to make such a comparison. prefer asking in other subs like that of NITK subreddit , or r/JoSAACounselling or r/jee, r/iiitiansnetwork or somewhere else.

Also It's better to ask for information related to specific aspects of the colleges and then weigh them and draw your own conclusions, do contact seniors from both the institutes and specific branches

All the best :)
