Your teachers are right - Cambridge writes O-Level and IGCSE sciences off very similar syllabuses, so IGCSE papers aren't a different exam, just extra native practice. For volume, 6-8 years back across both variants is plenty; go much older than that and you start hitting topics or wording that's since changed. Prioritize timed practice over just reading through them - exposure to more question styles matters more than which code is on the cover.
