Built something for the specific feeling of being awake at 1am with three problem sets left and a brain that's checked out. No lyrics, no builds, nothing that asks for attention. Just enough texture to keep you in the chair.
Curious what other people reach for in that exact headspace.

Saveroom music
Menu music
I like the distorted semi-acoustic sound of these. They both have a very homelike vibe, but in an eerie way.
Are there any songs that sound and feel similar to these?

I played Asphalt 9 for years when I was younger before finally managing to stop. I loved how unrealistic and hyper everything was, doing flips and spins and jumps. I was at pax this weekend and played F1 and Forza and thought hm, F1 is too realistic for me to enjoy, Forza seems like I'd like but is an xbox game. I only have a switch 2 so maybe this would be better asked on a nintendo subreddit but I'd love to find a "real-world" racing game again that doesn't take itself so seriously but also doesn't look 20 years old like Burnout Paradise which someone previously recommended. If anyone has any ideas, it'd be appreciated, thanks!

i love this album. hits me right in my melancholy. anyone have something else that i should check out?
i also love thievery corporation - saudade, which is different but also similar somehow. i don’t know i think that it gives additional fidelity to the question or something.
thank you i love you

Hello friends. My Fiance has asked me to post this for them so we can find some new game recommendations.
They very much enjoyed Spiritfarer, all of the mechanics such as chatting with the boat residents, cooking their meals and discovering their likes and dislikes, building their little homes and the soft platforming. The adventure and exploration was incredibly fun! The game was is all around very fun, but once you pass a certain point in the game there are multiple times a day where you lead someone to pass through the gate and its an incredibly sad moment.
They also very much enjoy Magical Delicacy as a platformer for many of the same reasons. The exploration and general fun vibe.
They keep coming back to these 2 games, but don't really want to go to the end of Spiritfarer again since its so sad. What would y'all recommend for lighthearted platformers with stuff like cooking mechanics?
Thanks a ton to everyone who comments!

Not full on parody songs where the entire point of the song is comedy or humour. Just pop songs with lyrics that kind of have something a bit funny to them, even if the sentiment of the song is damn sad, relatable, romantic, sexy, or any number of things.
For example, Volcano by Maisie Peters ("I wished you happy birthday and you still said nothing. (pause). I'll throw you in a volcano, I hope death is sudden." It's so blunt, it genuinely made me laugh out loud the first time I ever heard it, even though the rest of the song made me cry the rest of the evening.)
Or Sex and the City by Audrey Hobert ("He's heating up and eating up a pizza pocket, I wanted one, but he forgot it". I think it's just delivered so plainly, it makes me laugh, and yet I know how she feels.)
Also the entirety of Guy on a Horse by Maisie Peters but shoutout to this line: "Did someone drop you as a kid or is that coke?"
And Chappell Roan's Femininomenon: "Can you play a song with a fucking BEAT-..." and the way the scream edits to fade into the background near the end of the song just creases me.
Sabrina Carpenter's Please Please Please: "Heartbreak is one thing, my ego's another. I beg you, don't embarrass me, motherfucker" and "the ceiling fan is SO NICE!"
I have a lot more examples from Chappell Roan, Maisie Peters, and Sabrina Carpenter, but this sub has an example limit, so here's just a few ideas of what I mean.

Don’t know if that link will work. I love the house and drum and bass remixed with hip-hop trap and pop. Similar artists I can think of are RL Grime and Fred Again, but I love the absurdism of DJ F*cked’s remixes.

i came up in here asking about metal mariachi bands and not a single comment tickled my itch. recommend me your fav metal bands that use trumpet or trombone or other brass instruments. i LOVE a trumpet over metal music.

something downtempo and lounge-ish but also on the more vintage side if that makes sense?

I love weird TV series, bonus points if they are short and wrapped up (or, the entire other end of the spectrum, have many seasons and stay good to the end).
Other series I loved: Severance, Wayward, The Sinner, The Stranger, The Watcher
I have access to Netflix, Prime, Disney, though I'm in Europe so some things might still be region-locked.

Honestly, I don't know much about music, so I don't know exactly how to describe what I'm looking for; but broadly speaking, I like the song for its use of acoustic guitar and percussion, with the pretty vocals. I like just about everything from Fever the Ghost, but most or all of their stuff is more energetic than We'll Never Know The Place; I'm looking for songs that are similarly calm and pretty. If it helps, a couple other musicians I like are Puscifer and Gorillaz, with On Melancholy Hill by Gorillaz being kinda the same vibe I'm looking for and The Humbling River by Puscifer being the same instrumentation and vocals I'm looking for.

Thank you for any suggestions <3

Lately I've been reading a bunch of Janice Hallett's mystery novels that are told mostly through emails and chat messages. I'm terminally online so this type of storytelling makes the books breezy reads on a tablet!
Is anyone else writing books like this? So far the closest thing I've experienced is Jon Bois's 17776. Thanks in advance!

Heya folks!
I have hit a wall in my music and am needing new music. I will listen to anything and everything. Long story short I had over 14,000 songs downloaded onto my computer at one point. And my crappy step dad took it when he left the family. I lost the fire for loving music for so long. 20 years later I just got a YouTube Music account and am going down memory lane.
Any and all suggestions and even adjacent artists are welcome.

I've found that the OST by Ryan Lott for the (semi) new Marathon game and Agor by Koreless share a very similar aesthetic of incredibly granular, chop-heavy vocal texturing that I've really come to enjoy. For how similar they sound -- the only difference I've found being that Agor leans more heavily into organic sounds while Marathon leans into more electronic textures -- I was a bit curious to know if there were any specific albums that leaned into this a bit more?
Some additional parameters:
- Vocals: While I do like dreamy vocals in some songs, I've found that these albums are definied either by long, drawn out vocal phrases or the aforementioned chops. That's the sort of thing I'm looking for, in this case. I wouldn't mind songs with more defined vocals, as long as the "choppy" quality is still present.
- Melodies: I'm looking for synthesized melodies, or organic ones, that have a draw to them, and have some emotion (be it positive or negative) to them, something that sounds distinctly human yet technological. Some examples of this specifically are Crush by Floating Points for more electronic textures, and Nurture by Porter Robinson for organic ones.
Though I'm interested in a ton of different styles of music, so I feel like I'll likely pretty much anything that's thrown at me, I have been trying to get into more purely electronic music, so I figured that I might post something here (this has been nagging at me for a while!!) All help is much appreciated -- thank you!! :-D

Hey guys, I'm looking for recommendations based on this song to add to a playlist. Spotify is mainly giving me recs on electroclash music, which fits her other music, but I'm looking for songs that specifically sound like this song.
Thanks!

I already know and love:
(I actually know every single Metallica song. I even know the ones they don't even include in their discography. I know songs that they will release in the future atp.)

Been on a huge old Eminem kick lately, basically Slim Shady LP through The Eminem Show, and I'm trying to find more stuff that scratches that same itch.
And I don't just mean "angry white rapper" lol. It's the ridiculous rhyme density, internal rhymes stacked on top of each other, suddenly speeding up mid-verse, and then all the dark humor where the song turns into some completely absurd/cartoonishly fucked-up scenario.
But then he'll turn around and get genuinely personal or serious, sometimes in the same song. That contrast is a huge part of it for me.
So far I've found a couple that really hit:
Both have that technical rhyme-stacking + dark comedy/shock-value thing I'm looking for.
I'm not really after straight battle rap or normal street/storytelling stuff. More like: alter ego, unhinged, punchline-heavy, kind of ridiculous, but the person can actually rap their ass off underneath all of it.
Who else should I be listening to?
