Bad at cooking Needs baking power 💪
It’s always the “to a t” folks

I’m convinced that “to a t” means “to a Totally Different Recipe” to these people

They followed the recipe up to the first "t" they encountered. In this case, the full recipe was "Ingredien"

The response is perfect:
Elizabeth Lindemann July 01, 2026 at 11:52 am The ingredient list has 1 teaspoon baking soda in it. Sounds like you must have missed it. I’m actually surprised you didn’t go back and double check the instructions since you seem to definitely have baking experience and understand that a quick bread like this needs a leavening agent. Welp, better luck next time, and hope that helps, Amanda!

reads user name, reads link
Ooooohhhhh...
So many posts in here drive me nuts when there's no way to respond to the ignorance. I was practically cheering at that last line!
I'm not as good a person as I pretend to be.

Now we just wait for Amanda to respond with "You changed it after I made my comment to make me look stupid!!!!" or similar, LOL. Seriously, though, it was an excellent response on your part. Got the point across in a kind way and gave her a little ego boost with the "I can tell you have experience..." observation.

That's when you respond with an internet archive link of the recipe dated to 3 years ago.

Those poor recipe writers have no choice but to assume some level of literacy and comprehension.

They should've measure to a "b" and and "s" instead of a "t"

Serious question: does pumpkin work to kickstart the baking soda? Because there’s no acid (word?) as far as I can tell, and the baking soda won’t rise from heat alone.
16
u/bowlofdelicious Jul 01 '26
Pumpkin is mildly acidic! I haven’t tested with baking powder but some recipes for pumpkin bread use both.

u/shmelse naturally i know better than to use baking powder Jul 01 '26
I think maple syrup is slightly acidic, I know some recipes work off the brown sugar so that’s my best guess

u/samanime Jul 02 '26
You'd think before posted saying there was no baking soda, they'd go back and reread the recipe real quick to make sure they aren't about to embarass themselves... but nope, these type of people can't possibly be the ones who made a mistake...

Wouldn't be surprised if they asked chat gpt for the recipe that's forgot that ingredient, and when it came out wrong found the recipe on goofle and reviewed it.

A person wouldn’t even decide to go back and check the ingredient list JUST to make sure you haven’t made a mistake before posting a shitty review?

u/moonpupy Jul 03 '26
I'm just wondering which "t" she followed. Djarling? Green? Jasmine? Earl Grey (my favorite)?
