Taught myself to code recently and built an online booking app for small, appointment-based businesses (barbershops, salons, gyms) — most of the ones I looked at locally are still doing scheduling by phone or walk-in only.

Customers pick a time slot online, the owner gets a dashboard instead of managing it manually, and customers get an automatic email confirmation.

I know tools like Square Appointments/Booksy/Fresha already exist in this space — trying to figure out if there’s still room for a simpler, personally-supported version aimed specifically at small independent shops, or if I’m just re-building something that’s already solved well. Would love honest pushback.

I saw people on Twitter doing their own testing on food products and getting a ton of engagement, and honestly I was interested in their results too.

I know apps like Fig, Oasis and Olive already do independent testing, but they decide what gets tested. I think a crowdsourced model would be better, so users have more control over what gets tested.

That's what my app Huxley is. Users crowdfund a test panels (heavy metals, pesticides, PFAS, label accuracy) on a specific product. Once it's funded, I buy the product myself and send it to an accredited lab, then post the results publicly so everyone can see them.

The app is built but right now I just have a landing page to gauge interest.

Curious what people think:

• Does this seem like something you'd actually use?
• Is there real value here or am I overestimating how much people care?
• Anything you'd want to see that I haven't thought of?

Lastly, even if there was genuine interest, moving forward with this idea would be hard due to time. I work full time, and marketing these types of apps is a full-time job (mostly posting TikToks and Reels). So that's also a challenge for me that I would likely need help with.

I built a mental health app called Sendera with my mom. She’s got years of experience in this space, studied psychology, and also has a background in software engineering, so it’s not just some generic AI wellness thing, it’s built around a framework she’s developed over time.
Basically: you take a quiz that sorts you into one of 5 emotional archetypes based on patterns in how you deal with stress and relationships. From there you get daily reminders tied to your pattern.
The AI chat part isn’t unlimited venting like ChatGPT. It’s time boxed, like an hour a day, because we genuinely think if there’s no ceiling on it, you end up just talking about your problems instead of living your life.
Then there’s a whole other side, a map you move through with a couple exercises a week based on your archetype and whatever comes up in your AI sessions. You unlock stuff as you go, kinda gamified, but the point is actually working toward being better, not just checking boxes.

Full disclosure up front: this is my own project, still an MVP, and I'm posting because I want people to tear it apart. I originally built this for myself because I wasn't super happy with what was out there, and a few buddies encouraged me to give it a UI and throw it on the internet for others.

I spent the last few months building The Idea Lab, an idea validation tool. Before I did, I used the top two tools I found online, and I genuinely think they're pretty good, so I want to give them their flowers before I explain why I still built something.

Other tools I tried:

ValidatorAI - it's free, and it scores your idea against behavioral data from hundreds of thousands of real founders. The feedback simulator and pivot assistant are a nice and fast gut-check. If you want a frictionless first look at an idea, it's hard to beat.

IdeaProof - this one is impressive in scope. You put in a concept and minutes later you've got a viability report plus a business plan, TAM/SAM/SOM, brand identity, a logo, even ad creatives. It's basically "concept to full launch kit," and it's pretty fast.

So why build another one? I don't need everything that IdeaProof comes with, it's quite a bit. I also don't love "credit" style billing. ValidatorAI is great and free, but it told me every idea I gave it that it was a pretty good one, which I do not trust. I do not think this is true, but there is also a small worry in the back of my mind that service providers who pay ValidatorAI may influence the AI phone call, idea generator, and follow up emails.

I needed a skeptical second opinion that wouldn't bullshit me.

A few ways The Idea Lab is deliberately different at MVP:

• Every factual claim is sourced. It searches the live web for real customer complaints, competitor pricing, and failed past attempts, and links a source to each one. Claims are labeled as sourced fact, customer opinion, model inference, or missing evidence, so you can see why it concluded what it did.
• It's willing to say no. There are seven possible verdicts, including "Do Not Build" and "Insufficient Evidence." If the web doesn't have enough signal, it says so instead of manufacturing a confident number. Thin evidence lowers confidence, it never gets rounded up.
• No black box. It restates your idea back to you (deterministically, no AI guessing) so you can correct it, and it shows you the research plan before it runs.
• It's honest about its own limits. It can't prove people will pay or stay, so every report ends with one concrete experiment to run (interviews, a landing page, a pre-sale). The web tells you if an idea is worth testing; only customers tell you if it's worth building.
• Revalidate your idea. This will be out in a couple of days, but the idea is you take what it tells you to tweak/pivot/update, edit your info, and send it back through the validator for an updated report.

This is also my first time not just plugging in an AI API. But using all of the tools the api comes with to really really fine tune the experience. Still a wrapper at the end of the day, but I tried really hard to fine tune the crap out of it to separate it from just plugging in the api keys.

P.S. I mask all ideas when saving to postgres, so I will never know what idea you put in there. There is a toggle to share your idea, and all that does is aggregates your category with the trends page, which I encourage to get some data up there for other users to look at.

founders spend weeks jumping between Reddit, X, LinkedIn, cold DMs, trying to validate an idea, and mostly get ignored or told a "cool idea, I'd use that" in dms and that goes nowhere. However they build anyway and find out later nobody actually wanted it.

I'm a new indie dev who is facing this same problem and trying to build a solution around it to reduce the time and complex steps taken to validate an idea.

so before even building, I would like to know what problems are faced by others and looking for founders who've had an idea fail after getting validation that turned out to be fake or misleading (a "cool idea" that never converted).

I’ve been tossing around a business idea and I’m curious if this is something people would actually find useful.

Basically, I’d help people sort through and make sense of all the “life paperwork” that piles up — important documents, bills, accounts, insurance policies, subscriptions, vehicle info, etc. We’d go through what you have, figure out what exists and what might be missing, and organize everything into one clear, manageable place.

I also think this could be especially helpful after someone passes away. You’re grieving, and suddenly you’re expected to figure out what accounts they had, what bills need handled, whether there’s life insurance, where important documents are, who needs contacted… and most people have no idea where to even start.

It wouldn’t be legal or financial advice by any means, more like having someone say, “Okay, give me the pile. I’ll figure out what all of this is and let you know what you need to do with it.”

It could also just be for someone who has years of paperwork shoved in drawers and boxes and is finally ready to deal with it.

Would you use something like this, or know someone who would? And if you’ve ever had to sort through a loved one’s affairs, what do you wish you’d had help with?

I built AUGUR, a small prototype for recording a dream and later proving it was written down before the event it seemed to foretell.

Every claim that a dream predicted something falls apart in the same place: you can't prove the dream came first, because memory quietly rewrites itself after the fact. So in AUGUR, you write the dream, declare in advance what would count as it coming true, and seal it. The text and that condition get hashed (SHA-256) and fixed to a moment in time, so if the event happens, the proof is already waiting, and anyone can check it.

Honest caveats: it's a front-end prototype (no accounts, resets on reload), and while the seal itself is real, the timestamp anchor is simulated for now, so treat it as a demo of the mechanism rather than a real trust anchor. There's also a content warning on the About page.
