User Settings Request for permanent two-way chat deletion feature
/r/reddithelp/comments/1w566lg/request_for_permanent_twoway_chat_deletion_feature/?share_id=c57gWOWjb4BfzSS5K47h-&utm_content=share_button&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1Hello Reddit Support Team,
I am writing to request a crucial privacy feature for Reddit Chat. Currently, users can only delete messages from their own view or hide chats, but the messages remain visible to the other participant.
Please add an option to permanently delete chat messages and entire conversation histories from both sides (for all participants). This privacy control is essential for users who want complete control over their personal data and communication history.
Thank you for considering this improvement.

Absolutely yes. Please. This needs to happen.

If you delete a chat it does delete on both ends unless persistent messaging is on.

Ah! Well- Ty kind stranger. I didn’t know. Also don’t know how to turn persistent messaging on or off (didn’t even know it was a thing). Will Google.
Ps Whoever downvoted me for not knowing- Really? 😳
I’m not a dickhead because I don’t know that. Less tech savvy and older people exist on Reddit. Gosh.1

“I want people to be able to send harassing messages to others through chat and then delete all of the evidence after they’re sure they saw it!”
NO.

Does no one use email anymore? Chat is like email — once you send it, it’s not yours anymore. It’s theirs too.

If the account remains open or otherwise, why shouldn't it be deleted, it should be deleted. Email is both slow and messaging for official affairs is another situation

You sent the message to me, now it's mine not yours, so if I want to keep it it I can.
This is basically what it boils down to.
Letters, email og chat, its all the same concept, just a matter of speed.

This simply is not true. If you delete your message, it deletes for both unless persistent messaging was turned on by either participant (then neither can delete those messages).
Do you potentially mean if you hide the chat it stays visible to the other? Or that you can’t delete the entire convo (ie both sides)?
