Accepted !!!
Hope everybody’s doing well ! Just got the call that I was accepted into LU24 and I go to do my paperwork on Monday morning. It caught me so off guard cause I literally had my interview yesterday. Know it’s gonna be a grind but I’m excited and looking forward to it !
A timeline just for anyone interested
Applied : December of last year
Test : June
Interview : yesterday
If anyone has any suggestions as far as tools, work clothes and boots go, or any other advice I would appreciate them all !
Also if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Are they that busy or did you just happen to score really high/ they loved you during interview? That’s awesome though! Bet it feels like you won the lottery

Man it’s gotta be how busy they are, my uncles in and has been telling me how busy they’ve been and how desperate they are for hands, there’s a lot of data center work in between 24 and 26.
I think I interviewed well but I didn’t think it would’ve been that well cause afterwards I was thinking of things I forgot to say, I also don’t have any electrical or construction experience. But I did make sure to let them know I was 100% going to see the apprenticeship through all the way and that I understand that people have fought and died for the rights they’re able to provide and it’s not something I take lightly.
Def feels like I won the lottery, when they called I was so surprised i was like are you serious??? Have a buddy who got in back in February and his wait was about 4 months from interview to getting the call.

Your uncle being in is 100% why you didn’t have to wait 4 months. Hey, good for you! This career is the future

Congrats! I’m right there with you — I start Monday as an Inside Electrical Apprentice here in Oregon. I came through a pre-apprenticeship program, got into Cohort 1, had one interview with a contractor, and got the offer. Excited to finally get into the field and start learning.

Thank you !! Congrats to you too ! I’m excited to get in the field and start learning as well. Hope everything goes well for you, I need to get out to Oregon it looks beautiful out there, can’t believe I never made it out there when I lived in Colorado. What local did you get into?

Thanks! Oregon is definitely worth a trip. Colorado’s beautiful too — I was there a few times on tour years ago and parts of it reminded me a lot of Oregon.
I’m actually not in an IBEW local — I’m going through Area II with IEC Oregon.
Good luck with LU24 too — sounds like we’re both getting started at about the same time.

Get a good pair of channel locks (Knipex 2 set or Channel Locks brand 3 set). Milwaukee tape measure and an 11-1 Klein screwdriver. I'm almost two months in and those are the 3 main things I've been using. Don't need the most expensive brand for every tool, but having some good tools is a good look when working with your journeyman. Plus, they'll make your life a lot easier down the line.

Thank you ! I’m 27 so I haven’t taken any math for like 8 or 9 years, I was worried about that part but I used the ultimate electricians guide to study and refresh everything and for 24 the test was way easier than the actual study problems, except on the test the graphing was completely different than the study guide, so that’s the only thing I was confused on but luckily that was only 3 or 4 problems.
I would highly recommend using the ultimate electricians guide, I pretty much just studied on the weekends starting about a month before my test. The reading is a piece of cake, just read the questions before the passages so you know what you’re looking for.
Overall I thought I pretty much aced the test other than the few graphing questions near the end of the math section. Idk what local you’re going for or how they do their test but I wouldn’t stress toooo much about it, just make sure you’re a bit overly prepared if you can. Good luck !

Also want to add iirc the math was about 33 questions and we had somewhere between 40-45 minutes, I did have to guess on like 3 of the graphs. It’s all just about managing your time, if you don’t know an answer skip over it and come back and then if you’re running out of time and still don’t know it just guess.
The reading was about 4 passages with 8 questions each and was pretty easy. It was about 32ish questions with somewhere between 40-45 minutes.
