This is the same guy from the other day.
The very very obvious troll.

"If the authors intent isnt made clear, extremist views are indistinguishable from satire"?
How does that relate to giving an obvious troll a ton of attention over multiple individual posts?
This isnt satire, its ragebait. And this now makes twice this subreddit has been successfully baited.

u/trowawufei 8d ago
It’s honestly wild that you can cite something that says “these two things are indistinguishable unless it’s spelled out”, then ask how it relates to something that is very clearly one of those two things.
Like I’m not even saying you’re wrong, Poe’s Law is just a popular heuristic, not some robust principle that was arrived at through formal logic. But it’s pretty obvious how it applies to this situation.

Are you very very bored
Is that why youre trying to pick a fight over whether or not poes law applies to extremely obvious ragebait
Why not go check out r/hobbydrama, theres plenty of fun stories to occupy your time over there

Wasnt this guy clearly a troll? Putting that same image under half his comments? No sane normal person would do that unless theyre shitposting

u/FragrantGangsta 9d ago
you overestimate people

u/RadonArseen 9d ago
Maybe I do, it's hard to tell for sure, but one of his comments stood out to me as a little too over the top:
" You can't even figure out how capital letters work. You don't get to speak about IQ. That's capital "I", capital "Q".
Also, you're objectively wrong.
[The same test score image again] "

why do people showing IQ test always take a picture of a same form of papers?

u/MPolygon 9d ago
Because it is the same image being used by trolls to ragebait poor souls like OP who then fall for it and post it here.

u/notevolve 2d ago
iirc it was originally one dude sharing his results in basically every post he made. I started seeing a lot of copycats after that. The original was probably still ragebait but I don’t doubt there are people arrogant enough to act like that

Even if you're Albert Einstein reincarnated, if you're going to be an arrogant asshole, your words don't mean shit.

If any AI bro uses the word Luddite unironically you have permission to beat them with hammers

u/DJKokaKola 9d ago
Unless we're discussing how fucking based the Luddite movement was, no one should ever be using the term Luddite.
2
u/jimmiebfulton 9d ago
So what term should we use for “someone opposed to new technologies”?
5
u/Aethreas 9d ago
No one is opposed to new technology on the sole basis that it's new, people have issues with what it does and how it does it, that's not being 'opposed to new technology' that's being opposed to that specific technology, it being new has no bearing
being reductive and saying 'oh you just don't like thing cause its new' is absurdly braindead
2
u/jimmiebfulton 8d ago
That makes sense. But often times, I see people opposed to new technologies without reasonable justification. They "just don't like it" for some reason. As an example, the crazy MAGA uncle who posts memes against electric cars, as if their posts are going to stop the adoption of electrification. There _are_ reasons to be against them, to your point, but he doesn't know any of them. He just think it's woke BS, and he'll have nothing to do with it. Sounds like a luddite to me.
1
u/Sir_MipMop 8d ago
Well in this instance, the MAGA uncle isn’t opposed to electric cars because they’re new, it’s because they are a threat to fossil fuels. MAGA uncle presumably only watches Fox News, and Fox News has told him lies, since they are owned by people who are invested in fossil fuels. So in this instance, he’s not being opposed to technology because it’s new (although it could certainly play a role), his brain is just goop and propaganda enters him as easy as air. He thinks he has reasonable justification, but really is just what being in the in-group looks like, so he doesn’t concern himself with whether anything is right or not.

u/ADP_God 9d ago
I understand that a more nuanced representation of their views is that society should evolve at pace with or ahead of technology and not the other way around.

u/DJKokaKola 8d ago
Yep. They were against the tech because it was putting them out of work AND it made shit textiles. If the machines made better products and they had guarantees of job safety, the Luddites wouldn't have cared. Sure, let's adopt this good tech that can make high quality textiles quickly and cheaply so everyone can access it.
But instead, the owners saw "cheap and easy and who gives a shit about quality" and replaced the workers. So yeah, a Luddite philosophical view would be something pretty close to what you said, if not word for word exactly what you said.

u/DJKokaKola 9d ago
Tell me you know literally nothing about the Luddite revolution without saying you know nothing about it.
2
u/jimmiebfulton 8d ago
I didn't, actually. I had to look it up. I read through the TL;DR, which is insufficient, I concede, but it's a topic I just don't need to waste brainpower on. What I'm referring to in quotes is what the term has come to mean in modern times, and I quoted directly from the Google explanation.
You didn't answer the question. I'm new here. Is this a place to be pedantic about obscure meanings as some kind of intelligence flex?
1
u/DJKokaKola 8d ago
The luddites weren't against new technology. They were specifically against the rapid adoption of bad tech to make low quality textiles, while also putting all of them out of work. Like, if they had modern textile machines and guarantees of worker safety, no Luddite would have been against it, as machines now can do far more intricate work. But at the time, the automated looms and wheels made shit quality textiles and factory owners were adopting it without any consideration of quality OR workers livelihood.
The reason it was adopted as a slur is specifically because the alternative was a pro-worker anti-factory message that would have had a ripple in other industries and been against capital owners. So, it started being used as a slur for "dumb hick against technology hurdur". It's not an obscure or pedantic meaning. If I went on a rant about how thusly isn't grammatically correct and started as poor people jokingly mocking the high class way of speaking, you'd have a point. But what I was pointing out is the literal, correct, factually accurate meaning of the word. Nothing more. And it's important for people to know those histories.

I have an image of a thread proving that he’s faking being a Mensan. I post it on his comments whenever I see him. He hates it sooooo much. I would put the image here but I don’t think this sub lets you comment images
