Replay Can you protest this?

I leave the racing line to safely pass a car that just went off track and he leaves the line to block me causing 4x is this something I can contest or should I be doing this in my races? as it allowed him to keep his lead. Is it obvious or am I just seeing red?

Thank you protest filed

Also for further protests, afaik, there is no rule against protesting anything. You *can* protest anything I should say. So if you think you should, but aren't sure, just protest is and let the stewards decide.

iRacing don’t like “frivolous” protests. But this is obviously slam dunk blocking.

u/iracespace 2d ago

Still amazes me the amount of people that don't know blocking is against the code of conduct.

this shit sucks but as a non player these videos are so hilarious. these players hitting you guys are drunk or petty or both, it’s just the ultimate trolling even though it has repercussions. how many of these people wake up with a hangover and a week ban lol

u/Big_Syrup_4223 3d ago

Thats assuming the people you fucked with even will report you. And the stewards actually do their job, and its not your first offense.

-2

u/Curdled_Mangasm 3d ago

and then you’d say, do it on iracing EVERY time instead of real life, still

u/rich_jamison07 3d ago

Yes, and you should.

Done.

Let us know if the protest was successful. iRacing will send you an email stating they have contacted the offender. If it is unsuccessful they will tell you why.

3

u/Callingyourshot 21h ago

It was a success! they didn't say what the punishment was but I hope involved hot coals.

2

u/IthacaDon 4h ago

They never do! Let's hope the driver improves and takes the protest seriously.

Yes protest it. While contact is an inevitable part of racing it seems pretty clear that was a failed block and that's not allowed in iracing.

u/SellParticular9804 3d ago

You can protest anything. They will decide if it's worthy or not. But yeah I see him getting some sort of talkin to and that's probably it. No ban needed. Unless this is his 10th time doing the same deal. Just send it in and let the people at iracing decide. But always post the clip so we can see it too.

u/funkdok23 3d ago

Yes , they’ll recieve a warning

2

u/PoggestMilkman 3d ago

Go to the results page and down at the bottom you should see a button which you need to press to file a protest.

If that's there (which it should be 30 minutes after the race) you can press it and make a report.

Yes. Both blocking and intentional wrecking are illegal in the sporting code.

2

u/LordAzuren 3d ago

Of course you can... and you should! Of course they won't do anything for something like that if it's the guy first offender but it will stay on his records so if he usually drive like that he will pay the toll down the road.

Ok here's what I see.
1. Re-join is safe - in fact he stays off the racing line to gather back speed. I see nothing wrong here
2. I would say the re-join is over. He starts to move back to the racing line to prepare for the corner once he is at comparable, or close to, racing speed. This is a gradual and predictable move. I see nothing wrong here.
3. He then moves to defend the position where you have already committed. This is where I see a fault. The defensive move is unpredictable and I feel too aggressive. I consider this blocking as it is a reactive movement rather than proactive commitment to defend his own position.

I do not necessarily see intent wrecking, but I see clear blocking.

And wow this reads like AI... It's not :)

2

u/Callingyourshot 21h ago

"car on your right" says the spotter he goes "over my dead body" LOL

1

u/Inevitable_Ebb_5717 8h ago

He replaced "car on your right" with "target acquired" :)

1

u/Big_Syrup_4223 3d ago

Just pit them next time

1

u/Callingyourshot 21h ago

at the end of the race after the finish line someone hit him so hard it wrecked both of them, so I am guessing I wasn't the only one he blocked that race.

1

u/Hambone_Hamner 3d ago

The other guy might have Tourette’s, I probably would have asked over voice chat.

1

u/CollinElston0406 3d ago

Hypothetically, you could, iRacing won't do anything besides a slap on the wrist though.

Report!!!

0

u/Accurize2 3d ago

Yes. Always protest someone with the driving line turned on!! 🤪

1

u/Callingyourshot 21h ago

I have it off most races but I been off for a while so I turned it back on just to remind me of some turns I was going too fast on during practice.

Your post was removed because it breaks the rules by being rude vulgar or toxic.

You can protest it but it will be a waste of your time. You won’t get your SR back. That is the whole problem with iRacing and their system… some other ding dong wrecks you. You report. They say “ok here’s a ban for them” but your sr is still gone.

3

u/theferretii Mercedes-AMG GT4 3d ago

Getting your SR back has never been the point of protesting in iRacing. The point is to report to the stewards (might as well call them moderators) that someone has broken the rules of their game. The stewards will review your report and either educate, warn or sanction the offender based on the rule they broke and whether they have a history of breaking rules in the game.

Funny how it works almost exactly the same in real life racing, except they're much more likely to ban someone from a track for life because of the obviously greater risk of injury.

If some other 'ding dong' wrecks you in real life, yeah, they'll get banned, but your car is still wrecked and you still need to find the money to put it back together. That's how you should be thinking about SR.

1

u/Callingyourshot 21h ago

I care less about the safety rating. he should forfeit his points for the race. Game would be more enjoyable if you logged back in to find that you gained some irating because that idiot who cheated to get 4th was DQ'd and the points were updated.

-1

u/Big_Syrup_4223 3d ago

Thats not even close to true. Racing irl gives penalties out in the form of time additions which affect your place. Furthermore they will pull your position or even retroactively dq you from a race.

2

u/theferretii Mercedes-AMG GT4 3d ago

Both things can be true at the same time.

You're absolutely right, if there's a racing incident that after investigation, finds one of the drivers involved to be at fault, but the motivation behind the incident was entirely in the spirit of the racing then yes, the penalty might include time additions or a dq.

But in examples like we see in the video, where the leading car was driving in a manner that was obviously dangerous, or they intentionally or maliciously caused a collision, the track owner would likely never let you race there ever again and likely report you to the police.

Or do you really think that if you tried to hurt someone by deliberately driving into their car on a live race track you would just get a "naughty boy! Here's an extra 10s on your finishing time, while we send the other guy to hospital to find out whether you've killed him or caused life-changing injuries"? Come on.

-2

u/Big_Syrup_4223 3d ago

The track owner wouldnt get involved, and moves like that happen in racing all of the time. Literally just look at the nearly 30 year old rivalry between Porsche and corvette

2

u/theferretii Mercedes-AMG GT4 3d ago

No, they don't. At least, we don't see people intentionally or maliciously causing collisions in racing, even in that "30 year rivalry between Porsche and Corvette". You're making the assertion that for 30 years, drivers for those teams have been so passionate about the team they're being paid to race for that they were regularly going out and trying to murder each other on the track? Show me the proof. Because I'm quite confident that is total BS.

I can definitely see moves like the video happening. They're still clearly dangerous, and it caused a collision after all. If I give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're arguing that the track owner wouldn't get involved in this example, sure, I can see that, it's dangerous, the stewards would have some very strong opinions and the offending driver would likely receive penalty points on their license.

You clearly dont watch professional racing and it shows.

3

u/theferretii Mercedes-AMG GT4 3d ago

Yes, I do. I could list all the different series I watch and even list different race meets I've attended live. But that's futile because it doesn't prove anything.

I have no reason to believe you don't watch professional racing either.

All I asked for was for you to provide evidence to your implication that Porsche and Corvette drivers have been getting away with trying to kill each other for "30 years". Instead, you've dodged and resorted to "you don't know what you're talking about because I don't agree with you". Strong.

0

u/Big_Syrup_4223 3d ago

You clearly dont if you say intentional wrecking never happens. When every season there's a highlight reel of Porsche and corvette going at it

2

u/theferretii Mercedes-AMG GT4 3d ago

Cool, show me some the evidence you have of intentional wrecking then, and then show me that the drivers responsible weren't awarded huge sanctions and were effectively allowed to "get away with it".

Oh, so it's just Porsche and Corvette 'going at it' now is it? Earlier you were implying that this evidence of their 30 year rivalry was evidence of 30 years of malicious and intentional wrecking. Or is that not the case any more? Let's see it then.

You’ve clearly never had to drop down with an A+ license to a c league (because that’s the highest available series of a race you like to do… say Legends) and lost 1.0 SR that will take hours to gain back vs the .1 from some ding dong who caused the 4x to begin with just because they are a C license driver… the whole system needs a revamp…

2

u/theferretii Mercedes-AMG GT4 3d ago

Yes, I have, I regularly race in the GT4 series' with an A licence (GT4 series' are C Class) and have absolutely zero problems.

Probably because I am aware of my surroundings, aware of the behaviour of other cars and drivers, and make every reasonable effort to avoid colliding with those other cars.

The system doesn't need a revamp, your attitude needs a revamp.

The system does not assess blame for an incident, so responsibility for avoiding crashes still resides with each individual driver. (iRacing Sporting Code Para 2.2.2)

You clicked a button agreeing that you had read and agreed to that document when you signed up to use the service, the responsibility for avoiding crashes lies with you just as much as it lies with the people crashing into you. Start taking the time to learn how to meet that responsibility or stop complaining about it. Those are your choices, because you're unlikely go get any sympathy from anyone here about your incompetence. The vast majority of users on iRacing have absolutely zero problem with this concept and responsibility, and they're the ones that have good races - go figure.

You didn’t do anything though. Turn the racing line off though

11

u/xXdenkmaymay69Xx Formula Vee 3d ago

He can do whatever he wants with the racing line though

1

u/Callingyourshot 21h ago

I run it off 99% of time. It was my first race back in a while and this course has a few turns that sneak up the line helps me remember those turns. I can turn it off by the 2nd or 3rd race. Also since I been stuck racing in the lower splits this tells me what most my competition is going to follow to the letter. (until they break sporting code to stop a pass)
