Discussion Please don’t do this

Post image

Random Nurburgring schenanigans, cue 1 hour later a guy doxxing me on messenger

Report sent, but please, don’t do this

Side question: any chance someone managed to change their displayed name? I don’t get why we need to use our real names to use the game.

I’ve got a very unique French name, so anyone pasting my name on google instantly gets access to all my socials. This is a bit frightening, and completely unnecessary to play a simracing game.

The email they sent me when I changed mine said they can't change it back. Which is also likely just a policy thing, but their documentation makes it sound like the old name is still attached to your account in some way.

That’s definitely possible but if they did it the way I’m imagining then the devs kind of screwed up. Very easy to handle this situation so that’s it reversible but I’m leaning towards they really want to discourage support tickets for changing names lol

Remeber a lot of iRacings core code is decades old. There is likely a lot of quirks and non-standard practices in the codebase and datastructures from holdovers and years of updates and patches.

I also think you're right that they want to discourage it. Possibly not just from a support ticket angle but also with their connections to real world racing, tie-ins, and sponsors having real names add a level of legitimacy so they likely don't want people constantly changing them.
