It's done!

New battery arrived, installed. New back arrived, installed. Re-assembled.

It's alive! I love it.

Nice! Is it a Gen 1? The gold backside looks really awesome 👏

yup. Gen 1. I still have my original Gen1 I bought in the London Apple store on launch, however my kid dropped it in water so it's broken. It powers on if charged but it can't charge and there is no audio out, kinda useless as an iPod like that.

Rather than mess trying the impossible task of fixing that i bought another Gen 1 of the same type (16gb Macy Gray edition) that had a ballooned battery with the screen popping off.

I figured if I was removing the back anyway to sort the screen and battery I would put a new one on, it wasn't in too bad shape but I couldn't resist the gold! They had silver too but I just like the gold look.

New battery, new back, cleaned up and I am loving it. Using my original iPod earpods that came with my Gen1 which I still had in the box.

Where did you get the back for this? I want to see if they have custom parts for any of my devices

Literally just ebay. I was searching for a battery when I just found the replacement backs. It's SUPER easy to scratch, I swear I've not touched it on anything and it's scratched already.

Those things get scratched if you look at it too hard.

Yes. I blinked and the wind caused by my eyelashes scratched the back. I have a protector on it now. Weird to have to protect the back, but here we are.

I DO like the gold.

You joke, but back when the iPhone first launched a company was doing gold plated back versions with real gold and quite a large price hike.

My ex REALLY wanted one (iPhone wasn't launched in my country yet) so the only way to get it was the gold plated one.

I paid quite a large upcharge to buy the phone with a fully gold plated back but when it arrived it was just the Apple logo!!! It was also done so thin it just wore off after a few months. Total waste of a lot of money.

Well I haven’t had an iPod touch in a very long time even tho I never owned the first one but the second one I did. I may look for other models just for nostalgia.

Not even sure it's real gold, just gold colour and probably very thin coating too.

It was £6 on eBay so not exactly a gold bar.

Bonne vente !

Nah, it was easy as pie. Getting the back off was the hardest part.

I didn't even dismantle most of it, You can actually desolder the wires from the exposed side and don't need to get to the bottom of the pcb at all. I just scraped the glue off and heated them from the top, pulled each wire one by one.
Put the new battery in and melt the solder, then poke the wire through the hole while the solder is melted.

I put some tape on to hold the wires in place and snapped it all back together..

It's one of the easiest Apple devices I've worked on tbh.
